  • San Benedetto? San Benedeeetto? In this episode Bruce taste tests water!!
No actually with the temperatures rising this time of year where I live, we're going to make a classic patio sipper to beat the heat. A Rickey. A Lime Rickey to be more precise. This one is really easy. 3 ingredients and your done! For such a simple cocktail it actually has some history to it dating way back to the 1800s. It didn't start out as the type of Rickey we know and drink today. Next time you are entertaining...(or when it's deemed safe you can entertain wherever you live) whip up a bunch of Rickeys to cool down your guests. Cheers!

Dude reminds me of the old bartender at the local Moose Lodge. Abuelo used to make the strongest damned drink you ever had and made them well, however you had to listen to his stories as well as he made this drink. So you might be waiting for 20 minutes but I tell you this, even Mickey Mantle would be under the table with one of his drinks.

Love the stories Bruce. Lime Rickeys remind me of home, and my misquided youth. A local burger place used to sell Lime Rickeys - Sprite, fresh lime and a couple squirts of grape syrup over that real small barrel sized ice, the kind that would eventually melt enough to get sucked up the straw. Loved me as a kid so much so as as high schoolers we used to drive the drag, get those then top them off with vodka. The days of misguided youth! Great video Sir. Thanks for bringing back some memories. Stay well.

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Jack is good, but whiskey is whiskey. To use an alternative to whisk(e)y would be to make a completely different tasting drink. You could make a Rickey with a nice rum like Bacardi 10 Year Old Gran Reserva, or an inexpensive Appleton Estate V/X Signature Blend. It wouldn't be a Rickey, but I'm sure it would be tasty. Add some fresh mint and now we're entering Mojito territory. Ha. You could even try subbing out the whisk(e)y for brandy. It's always good to experiment. Say hi to Riky for me. Cheers!

I used to love a drink similar to this we called "alcoholics koolaid". In a tall glass we'd fill with ice, squeeze in a big lemon wedge, a big lime wedge, a shot of Bicardi Limon, a shot of Tanqurey Malacca, then top off with tonic water. Enjoy, and be careful, they go down easy.

Good stuff. Here in New England the lime Rickey is also a traditional summertime non-alcoholic drink, carbonated water and sweetened lime juice/syrup (some places use fresh lime). There are other flavors like raspberry-lime but plain lime is the most popular. Harder to find one these days but you still see them at places like ice cream stands, clam shacks, etc.

The best hot weather drink I ever had was Drambui & and Seltzer on the rocks with akafier lime leaf in it. It was in Thailand and a British fellow who had befriended us young Marines on maneuver there.
It was refreshing and lite to sip and you could sit in the bar and drink them all day

A Canadian Lime Ricky is Shoplifted Soda, Lime juice in one of those squeezy bottle thingies, Canadian Whisky, preferable Liquormans, and it's served in a half plastic soda bottle or cat food bowl, garnished with some dope leaves and a sprinkling of cigret ash. purfect

My husband Mike Hergott sent your video to me today. Peter Hart stumbled across it and sent it to him. It's a great video and a great drink. I had to try one of course. It's now my new summer drink. Can't wait to go out and stock up. Thank you.

I'm a huge fan of gin mixed with the San Pellegrino orange or lemon carbonated juices. Used to be on special at Costco years ago but they got replaced by those ugly La Croix seltzers.

Yes! Any cocktail you would use "Club Soda" you should be using sparkling mineral water, I personally feel the best is "San Pellegrino" in the green bottle!
Trust me, having been in the homes of the very wealthy, presidents, and vice presidents, CEO's of the largest banks, all had a cellars (Basements) full of cases of San Peligrino!
I had to ask, "what's with all you guys and the cases of San Peligrino?
    The response was "Mixer Dude!"
Instantly upped my cocktail game, killer mojitos!

So, I found this cocktail intriguing. I'm a bourbon man almost all of the time. But I will drink a Long Inland Ice Tea if I'm reminiscing about college, or I'll drink a Gin and Tonic that my mother taught me to drink when it's hot outside.
I moved to Texas about 6 years ago. I hate the unbearable hot summers like the one we're having now. Therefore after seeing this, I went straight down to the local sports bar and ordered a Gin Rickey and a Bourbon Rickey consecutively. The Gin Rickey was awesome, refreshing, and cooling. Unfortunately, the Bourbon Rickey was a little too spicy to cool my Anti-Texas passion.
Mom's going to roll over in her grave, but I'm changing my summer drink. Bartender, it's damn hot outside; make me a Gin Ricky.
