    After watching you pull out all those mouth watering gems, all I can do is add a couple of bottles that I think are worth mentioning. 🥃
    1) Lower proof - Edradour 12 Caledonia. Full sherry impact.
    2) Higher proof - Macallan Classic Cut. Assertive sherry and oak.
    3) Peated - Lagavulin Distiller's Edition. PX at its best..!!!

    Hi Pete, The YT algorithm finally dropped this video into my feed. Enjoy your style and perspectives. It's especially nice to find a whiskey-tube channel based in Arizona as I'm just north of Tucson and I should be able to find bottles that you feel are interesting. (I had to go out of state for the Bunna 12 C.S. too.) I agree with you about sherry matured/finished, peated single malts; probably my favorite style.

Uigie won my March Malt Madness tournament, which surprised me because I tend to favor ex-bourbon over ex-sherry. But clearly when the sherry's done really well, it's hard to beat.

    @neilrobertson6849 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just thought I'd say - if you like sherried scotch, you should be drinking more sherry! The sherry market keeps shrinking making it harder for distillers to get quality sherry barrels. Most now are just sherry "seasoned" or are conditioned by sherry lodges with a relatively quick soak of low quality wine that they usually toss afterward. Also if you find yourself thinking "what would this whisky taste like with a sherry finish", you can try rinsing a glass with sherry before pouring a whisky. This is a trick that some blenders use for testing barrel finishing ideas.

    I stand corrected regarding age certification of scotch, days as a customs and border protection ( trade) CFR 27 5.30 are for US imports to be no less than three years old, yet if a 12 year old is blended with 3% of a three year old, per US regs the lowest aged is to be stated. I wonder if I had read Scottish law regarding exported whiskey. Either way I routinely purchase stated age, Buchanan’s master blends 12 is a great sip

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A butt (500 liters) is larger than the standard American cask or barrel (200 liters). So I would think the surface ratio to liquid being less in the sherry butt the sherry influence in the butt would be less. How much less and how much of a factor would that influence the amount of sherry that comes through in the whisky...I don't know. I think there are more factors involved. Especially how active the cask or butt is and how long it's in each.

      I think it's delicious, but slightly cask influence heavy. I'd put it up there with the Tamdhu 15 as far as how much cask influence it has. You really need to like raisins, dates, and plums in order to like cask 2635.

      @@whiskeyisajourney I'm contemplating pulling the trigger on this bottle, haha. I'm totally fine with a heavily sherry profile. However, I'm curious if it leans towards being overly oaked, potentially resulting in a too bitter finish?

      @@roychen9257 I don't think it's over oaked at all and I don't pick up on anything that would be called bitterness, but that's my palate. Where are you located that you can pick up a bottle?

      I'm out making my rounds 3 days a week and I have never seen it. I just gave up and ordered it online.

    Billy Walker bought GlenAllachie in 2017. So his influence on the 12 and 15 year old bottlings is minimal.

      Makes sense. 2016/2017 is when he bought it so...2028 will be his 12 year? That would be an interesting comparison.
