I'm really glad someone is making a video about this swap. I have a WJ and have been looking for educational videos and posts to start learning about a Chevy engine swap.
Yea there's definatly a hole there. Everyone that does it does it from scratch with not a tone of help there's a Facebook page but nobody's done a how to or documented it before in an organised way
oh there is a bunch more coming. i plan on documenting everything till the swap is finished. this weeks video is gonna be a bit delayed as im dealing with a corrupted SD card.but illl get something out tonight on the frs hopefully and the WJ video can happen friday or something
The 42RE transmission is a Chrysler 904 with a overdrive on the back.. My GIANT 1970 Chrysler Newport had a 383 with a 904 trans.. SO you could just drop most any Chrysler V8 in there like a 426 Hemi !!😁 I have 4 WJ's !! Guess what I'm doin ?? 🙂
yes you could do that. however they did a really bad job of the programming on the 42 RE. the hsift points are just awefull, and it will hold a gear and loose speed for way to long on hills then drop 2-3 gears and it tries to spin out in winter. that transmission was my biggest issue with the jeep.maby with more power infront of it like your saying it would be better tho cause it could maintain speed up hills in the higher gear.
Soooo What’s the perfect combination engine, trans & Tcase for the ‘02 WJ? And then electronic if money wasn’t the issue? I’ve been staring at mine where the 4.7 bit the dust and want it right&dependable
in my opinion any of the 6.0L LS chevy engines with a 4l80e and np242. it was relativly easy to fit and i was able to use the front driveshaft from the truck and the rear DS from the jeep with conversion u joints.
@@brucea822 Well i used the stock LS computer from the truck to control both the engine and transmission. they are pretty easy to setup to run as a standalone LT1Swap.com has some EXCELENT info on how to do that. i do have a video sitting waiting for editing about that I think. the only difference from what I did is that I recommend keeping the jeeps stock fuse box and tieing in the ls harness to power off that and trigger the fuel pump relays and stuff. i used the truck fuse panel and it did cause a lot of extra work. lots of people have done ls swaps and most keep; tteh stock fuse panel. the only other thing I have to deal with is guages and there's a lot of ways you can go about that
My wj has the 4.0. the rods have left the oil pan. I have a 5.3 sitting here. Not sure how it would bolt to stock transmission. Or converter. 4x4 2002. Winter coming. Wifey needs a 4x4. Find a 4.0 amd bolt and go or try the 5.3?
i think your best bet is to find anouther 4.0. theres no way your gonna make the jeep electronics that control the stock trans play with the gm ECU and they would need to communicate.
@@breadboxracingand4x4the LS is going in with its own trans and its own ECU .. i am thinking about doing it .. i love the JW , its compact size and easy reliable suspension, the 4.7 is not very reliable engine
It really depends on alot of things. And how good you are are reusing parts and selling parts you don't need. So far I'm into my swap for only about 1000CAD but I still need a manual tcase
i actually have an entire video dedicated to that. th-cam.com/video/CqYT0vpMmQ0/w-d-xo.html theres also a whole playlist about the build ont eh channel page.
I used the 4L80e that came with the truck because it's from vehicles that are 2000 lbs heavier and made for towing. So it should be way overkill for my jeep and overkill is underrated

That’s why I have been asking
I feel much better about going to the LS
Looking forward to watching this build!
thanks man! still lots to do. and even more videos to edit haha
Good Job, I love to see more videos on this wj ❤❤🔥🔥

It's gonna take me a while but I'm gonna try it an see what happens.. Might work Might not. You are right about that transmission tho !

How much would a bone stock 5.3 swap cost?

What motor mounts brackets where used
i custom fabricated the mounts myself. you can see it in this video th-cam.com/video/CqYT0vpMmQ0/w-d-xo.html

You running a Holley ?
I'm running the ecu from the truck. It is a red/blue connector Delphi unit. I can get the info on it tomorrow
Stock ecu
Not the Jeeps stock ecu it's the trucks ecu
