@@CheekyNinja it is theoretically less efficient for steady state heat transfer, but nobody uses full throttle all of the time in a car, the water can absorb heat when you're on the gas and dissipate it later, so it probably works better in practice than an air/air intercooler ;) The VW/Audi TDIs all use air/water charge coolers now.
@@connerlabs it isn't more efficient. It might be more effective for short durations as you can use it is as a buffer to control temps but once your water heats up you can only take out as much heat from your charge air as you can emit from your cooler rad. It is great to see these done. This stuff was "hit " in finland about 10-15 years ago. Today you can spot one "Superturbo" every day in daily traffic in the city of Oulu, i personally know literally a dozen just in this city :) Since then the "gurus" have gone to CDI.
Nissan has a factory snorkel which makes it cross rivers. quite watertight too. I would suggest that and plumb it accordingly. After all It is an off road vehicle and most who do this conversion still would like that off-road ability. Great video ✌️😃
Now, you’ve had a couple of days to actually WATCH the video, and SEE all the numbers in black and white on your screen.... and no, I am not giving you a timestamp.

Seeing more about the Patrol and diesel swaps. Looking at the OM606 for a swap into my 97 Land Cruiser. If I hadn't already purchased my LC I'd see about what it takes to buy one in the States. Great video and thanks for your time.
@@oilstovesandmore Also the diffs in the y62 are bigger than in the y61. The 62 has bigger CV joints, they're also a wider diff. And some at random had a super sized rear diff in it. Must have had spares on the shelf. That diff normally went in the leaf spring Ute.
@Robert-cu9bm the old H260 rear, also came in a zd30 in 2002 for some strange reason. At least it was coil sprung and still had the full floating 37 spline axles 🤟
I want one!! You guyz are lucky. The US makes diesel more expensive corrupted politics And oil lobbyist ruined fuel economy in favor of petrol. Thanks for the awesome build.
Y61 patrols are awesome I’ve had 4 of them including 1 which we cut into a dualcab and stretched the chassis so it had a 2.4mtr tray on the back…. But … I must say now I’m on my second 200 series Landcruiser 4.5 twin turbo diesel with 900NM of torque and will have to say that it is a far superior car in every way especially towing.. EXCEPT off road .. the Y61 was much better on the tracks. This is definitely an awesome engine swap though. Love it 🤙🏼
I met you at Goodwood a few years ago with my Moskvich 401, and you had that insane OM yank machine. I'm loving this video. Good work. I live in Portugal now, and that thing would be crazy as F out here on the trails
You’re choice in engines, solid front axles and toyo mt tires is enough for me to know you like to build something useful practical and very fun. I would build it the same way toyo mt, 0m606 turbo, manual transmission and solid front/rear axles
What kind of adapters would it take to swap this into a 1st generation Dodge Dakota particularly the 1994-1996 with the NV3500 transmission? I love my 5.2 V8 in my OBD2 1996 dakota with manual transmission and 4x4 but being a regular cab i wanna make it different and swap in an OM606 mated to NV3500 manual transmission just kinda wondering if that would be possible to make an adapter considering these NV3500 transmissions have a non removable bellhousing made for the 5.2 or 5.9 small block V8 engines but hoping to mate an OM606 to it and really make this dakota wake up!
Oh wow, I didn't realize this was solid front axle, I'm shopping for one and the 98,99 first 2 yrs of this gen are eligible for us import and I've got a bit more room make my money to farther as they're generally demanding land cruiser money, and come to think of it I could save even more grabbing one from a friend who's dad is a car dealer in Colombia. ( Coincidentally I first met him and he actually picked me up in a 5 door last gen running on natural gas/petrol to buy a land cruiser they sold an hour earlier. ) Whatever I can get away with pre shipping as far as work and mods would be a great idea, with the USD /COP being ridiculous. I imagine customs isn't interested unless it's newer vehicles, newer oem engines and parts that are grey market and not exempt or requiring compliance etc. That axle is a great surprise given the Prado is independent front suspension, which I don't mind too much. I don't need solid axles for my use cases, but I remember the patrol being one of the earlier cars to have coil springs, ABS, etc Plus I'd have to get one of the new years I believe to have an inter-cooled diesel in. It's not the best line of the Toyota diesels. I'm sure these Nissan's that they get out insane like are good. That being said, what is the desire to have the Mercedes diesel over the Nissan? Is it just baseline reliability over the Nissan motor when modded ? I can't imagine they'd be cheaper I guess it's more for one off builds not mainstream dailys? I currently sold an fj cruiser before prices drop 15 percent across the board, and want to drive something I can make money on for less money, room to mod too. Problem with FJs are I bought auto replacing a total vehicle, finding a clean one or as a statewide game as well, and the manual transmission version of this vehicle on this wheelbase that has the permanent all-wheel drive with the 60/40 front rear just adds more grip when throwing it into corners. I told myself I'd find a clean one later and supercharge it. that with a 5,6-speed and just mild tire size increase would be nuts, and I wouldn't mind an earlier model western vehicle for a build to save, just important to find a clean chassis. Do you know much about these patrols? Don't they have a straight 6 cylinder as well? I believe in the previous generation? As much as I want to own my first diesel and mod that I wouldn't mind getting a 6 speed with a V8 or V6 petrol, as I'm adding torque etc and reliability. I just want a short wheel base manual boosted pretty much, and this patrol would be rad. I'm guessing the V8 of this generation lacks a manual transmission, in Colombia I they have the 90 series land cruiser with a manual with that smooth reliable V8, that would be fun to drive as well, another daily you could beat on everywhere andl tune. they have them both for the 80 series along different variations of the 4f carbed up to injected and the same multiport injected straight 6 offered in states with auto only on believe. They also put that engine in the 70 series short and mid wheelbase, in manual, pretty rad. Yeah I was just curious if you knew much about these, gas and diesel, not a deal breaker, but I like the generational updates for a daily driver, that's one thing I take for granted with the FJ as the gen of the Prado I was after is great amd I'm sure fun in diesels but things like atrac and the rest of safety is nice when it's not too much more to spend now on an older FJ when prices are realistic. So yeah, this patrol, Prado and Pajero 3.5 petrol with manual is what I'd like I'll take anything for a deal even the less preferred Toyota and Mitsubishi diesels that are a bit underpowered, and bonus for left hand drive South America discount and quicker process. I gotta have a manual transmission again, I can't wrap my head around the Nissan Xterra or else I could get that done here in the states, a Jeep Wrangler I can afford until recently has the worst manual transmission have driven in a while, although an jl manual that only comes v6 boosts would be fun.. The patrol just stands out from his uniqueness. Now those salad axles and the potential for diesel and just lifting easy being desirable. I was donorship and being able to handle power with or without gears, plus I think the 99 gen has more leg room, they're generally shorter vs Toyota Mitsubishi, back to the early patrols. (Which outside Australia Colombia has a grip of them still on the road. ) any insight appreciated cheers
You need to impress these engines to the Saudi's. They love the Patrol and I've seen more than a few interesting engine-swapped combos over there but never one running a 606. The 2JZ and the 1UZ V8 are really popular, though there's more than a few pushing 1200hp.
Relocate battery to trunk, run aluminum/frp pipe to fender and attach fender to snorkel above windshield level. Great info just my thoughts on quick easy cooler air.
A price break down on a built engine like that would be great. Everyone in aus is doing 6bt swaps but they are so heavy. And also make shiiiittloads of torque that snap gu diffs and gearboxes like they are twigs. I think the 606 is a better engine for reliability
Nice and different. Gold rims really complete the standardised look too. I don't think I'll be the first to say it, but stainless snorkel with water changed to passenger? Though it will change the stance quite a bit.

That a sharp SUV. I'd love to have a good truck/SUV like that. There aren't make truck like SUV's left here in the USA. If there are they cost way too much!
Love it! Sounds just the right amount of angry!
It is great to see these done. This stuff was "hit " in finland about 10-15 years ago. Today you can spot one "Superturbo" every day in daily traffic in the city of Oulu, i personally know literally a dozen just in this city :) Since then the "gurus" have gone to CDI.
Do you guys just build engines or do you offer adapter plates? I’d love to squeeze one of these in my 4runner
20:42 best part of the vid! Like Torreto's Charger from Fast&Furious!
Epic built!
What's the torque figure on this
Lil bit
Yes
Yes, torque 👍🏽
Those axle/diffs are HUGE compared to my heavy Landcruiser..!! These look like truck diffs..
I love this patrol, the rocket:)
Nissan has a factory snorkel which makes it cross rivers.
quite watertight too.
I would suggest that and plumb it accordingly.
After all It is an off road vehicle and most who do this conversion still would like that off-road ability.
Great video ✌️😃
My favorite video so far. That engine bay looks awesome, I'm loving this building. Any idea about the torque?
Now, you’ve had a couple of days to actually WATCH the video, and SEE all the numbers in black and white on your screen.... and no, I am not giving you a timestamp.
This is what a literal "BEAST" looks like. Will smoke you on highway roads and will leave you cowering behind off-road. Well done! 👌👌👌
piękny samochód !!!
I have seen many of your videos and the builds that you do with the om606 engine ,it's awesome and beautifully done,I would love to get one by you sometime, your work is brilliant
Don't give the Saudis idea about this swap 🤣🤣🤣
Back again (love the sound of this absolute weapon) i've noticed the price of the patrol has gone up since the release of this video.
F*cking awesome!! Air-water cooler means no lag! Just a beast!! 😍😍
Cheers from Portugal!!
Mate just came across this video
Wow this 4wd is insane!
Great build 👍
Ive got a chargecooler on my T4 2.5 , ive got some sensors on the out side and it dropped the temps 20-25 degrees .... also running a chargecooler radiator off a Toyota ST220 under the van half way along. Its got its own pump and header pot as well. Nice job there with good figures now add a tad of smurf juice !!!
Seeing more about the Patrol and diesel swaps. Looking at the OM606 for a swap into my 97 Land Cruiser. If I hadn't already purchased my LC I'd see about what it takes to buy one in the States. Great video and thanks for your time.
Have to be a crazy Portuguese guy involved in this thing.😄😃😄 i had a lot of funn watch it. Very nice guys! Kipp it up.😉👍
I love the brute power!
Thanks for the explanation of the Patrol. Didn't know that the running gear was so strong .
It's from a truck.
Few upgrades (bigger fifth gear) from the original in the 80s, but essentially the same.
@@Robert-cu9bm okee. Thanks for the info👍
@@oilstovesandmore
Also the diffs in the y62 are bigger than in the y61.
The 62 has bigger CV joints, they're also a wider diff.
And some at random had a super sized rear diff in it. Must have had spares on the shelf.
That diff normally went in the leaf spring Ute.
@@oilstovesandmore
But they're still break, and with ease on bigger tyres.
Running 35s you'll break CVs.
Done many in mine.
This thing can go over a stroller like nothing. Love it. Gypsies are like bowling pins. I have more strikes than WWII BF 109 ACE.
Love it 🤙🏼
I used to modify the dynamics of the cars in GTA back when I was a kid. This is what they moved like.
I met you at Goodwood a few years ago with my Moskvich 401, and you had that insane OM yank machine.
I'm loving this video. Good work.
I live in Portugal now, and that thing would be crazy as F out here on the trails
Cushty, you sir are a magical 🧙♂️ mechanic 👨🔧, that’s is brutal , I want one
( Coincidentally I first met him and he actually picked me up in a 5 door last gen running on natural gas/petrol to buy a land cruiser they sold an hour earlier. )
Whatever I can get away with pre shipping as far as work and mods would be a great idea, with the USD /COP being ridiculous. I imagine customs isn't interested unless it's newer vehicles, newer oem engines and parts that are grey market and not exempt or requiring compliance etc.
That axle is a great surprise given the Prado is independent front suspension, which I don't mind too much. I don't need solid axles for my use cases, but I remember the patrol being one of the earlier cars to have coil springs, ABS, etc
Plus I'd have to get one of the new years I believe to have an inter-cooled diesel in.
This has got to be one of the best SUV engine swaps ever
What a fantastic project !
Yorkshire Diesel Fan
Good job 👍🏼
This is our best off road car
Greetings from Dubai
here because of Low Standard Jay .
sick rig.
1:30 minute of seeing the car doing donuts(?) in a 22 min video, HELL YEAH BROTHER MAN!
"2JZ" diesel from Mercedes on Patrol.. What else can you ask for?!
Thumbs up for what you doing mate! Keep it going.. Cheers
A price break down on a built engine like that would be great. Everyone in aus is doing 6bt swaps but they are so heavy. And also make shiiiittloads of torque that snap gu diffs and gearboxes like they are twigs. I think the 606 is a better engine for reliability
I wish you guys were in my country. I would totally pay to have a crazy build
Nice and different. Gold rims really complete the standardised look too. I don't think I'll be the first to say it, but stainless snorkel with water changed to passenger? Though it will change the stance quite a bit.
Have you thought of perhaps going with a snorkel? Good for dust travel and cold air intake as well.
Now that is a beast she is awesome 👌 guys best work in the game I'd love to see you guys do a om606 wrx conversion
Mate that thing is a BEAST. I would love to have that in my trol. But as a few peeps say here in Aus the support and parts would be hard. As soon as you day Benz the price here is stupid money.
Keep up the good work. Just also subscribed
The Portuguese from my experience are an awesome people, very generous.
Watching from Aus. Love the Skid Factory mention!!
OM606 very strong engine and easy for more power
Could listen to that idle sound for hours
Bloody Mary! That's what I'm talking about!!! I got one with zd30 in automatic. Got some welding ongoing😉Wonder if I can swap engine to automatic too. Mate you did a cracking job. Well done.
I could listen to that spoul up all day.
Отличный автомобиль! Хочу себе тоже внедорожник на мощном дизеле!!
