    Best timing belt replacement video on TH-cam. Saved me hours, thank you very much. Quick question, some kits come with the vibration damper, would you advise changing it? They seem very expensive for what they are. If I don't need to I won't bother!

    Been doing my 2002 Passat TDi with this tensioner today. Have done them in the past but the new tensioner is giving me all sorts of problems. When I turn the tensioner with the 2 pin tool anti-clockwise and remove the locking tool from the plunger, the gap at that point is around 5mm. I cannot get it to compress any further. Comparing the Gates tensioner to the old VW one that I took off, the Gates one has a slightly longer end on the plunger and by default sits out further than the VW one.
    In the workshop manual it says to go anti-clockwise, remove the locking tab then move the tensioner pulley slightly clockwise to get the 4mm gap. Will it be ok at 5mm?

    • @TheBlaert
      @TheBlaert 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And edit, I got it eventually sorted. The hydraulic tensioner was faulty. It wouldn't push back at all with pressure from the pulley arm, even after 30 minutes. Parts place replaced it and it's all sorted

    Hello, thanks for the video. I’ve made the same, same engine, same car…the crankshaft pulley tool also those 2-3mm was at right…so after that I took the old belt, camshaft has been fixed with tool, I have moved crankshaft pulley left so it fits. Just like you.
    Now somehow the car has no power, turbo-boost comes first at 2500rpm, after some drive it goes in safe mode.
