Failure! But that's a good thing... I mean it. I truly appreciate the fact that you uploaded this video despite the fact that the engine needs a full rebuild or even replacement. One can learn as much, if not more, from failure as we can from success. It is the failures that make the successes matter. If nothing else, this video you made shows viewers the proper steps to determine whether or not an engine is stuck, and why it might be stuck through those steps - eliminating, one by one, the likely cause. You were very descriptive and right on point at every step. A man who shares his failures is an honest man, and is worth investing in his next pursuit of success. I just subscribed. Looking forward to your future efforts. -Greg

When you pull them spark plugs squirt some penetrating oil down there before trying to break them loose. Then when they break loose work them out until they get hard to turn then run them back in not only will the penetrating oil help lube the threads but you will clean the threads when running them back and forth. Less chance of hurting the thread's on the heads. Thanks for the videos

A few months ago I paid 250 bucks for a 61 Galaxie. Had been sitting on a farm for 30 years. All four doors were stuck.Trunk was stuck. All four wheels were stuck.352 FE,stuck. No trunk floor or fuel tank.Floor pans shot too. I haven’t given up on getting her freed up,but it’s not looking good. I can say that after watching several videos of people getting engines freed up way to easily,I can certainly relate to this. Plugs were hard to get out (like yours). But finally I can say that I have seen an engine that looks worse than mine. One thing you did show me is that I probably haven’t put enough diesel in it to soak the cam. Don’t think the original half gallon is enough. Thanks.

I recently bought a 1989 Camaro that had been sitting for 15 years. I did the same things you're doing and finally got it to turn while at the same time taking it apart piece by piece to see what was causing the sticking. The more I tore into it the more sludge I found. Finally unsiezed it but there was way too much sludge build up to run it. I broke it all down and took it all to the machine shop. I got it all back and have since then put it all back together and it now runs. It can be done but isn't cheap.

The 69 GT 390 motor had fueley heads with a 2.02 (?) Intake valve and a large exhaust valve. I know from experience, if you install a 428 "SUPER" Cobra-jet cam. That motor will be the BEAST of the planet. See what you have there before you sell it off as scrap. That motor is worth MUCH more than $6 Bills. (If it is a GT)

You need a blow torch and some PB Blaster spray. It eats rust like I eat tacos. Give rusted seized bolts before apply force with breaker bars can definitely prevent breaking bolts. Which if you have broken bolts before...you know. You will hate your life. My worst situation was with a crank bolt I was trying to remove on a Honda... I broke my impace gun trying to get it off. I ended up using a blow torch to heat it up then used a 32 ft...yes a 32 foot breaker bar..... Sad to see the car was too far gone.
I had a Galaxy XL Fastback, 390, bucket seats when I was 17. I think it was a 68. It must have had electrical problems because someone cut a crap load of wires out of from under the dash and then abandoned it. I paid $200 for it and knew very little about wiring and used what I had, which was mostly speaker wire and lamp cord, to get everything working again. I drove it for 2 years and traded it for a 70 Cutlass Those 390's were great engines and it was a very nice car for a 17 year old.

Looks like the 352 in my in-law's (now my) '58 Skyliner that sat since 1967, except it took my machine shop 2 1/2 weeks to get the cam, distributor and lifters out. It actually looked good inside so it's being rebuilt, especially since it's the original engine and it's one of the early solid lifter ones. Right now I'm trying to get the seized rockers off the shafts. The 9 or so that I've managed to get off so far are perfect inside.

That Fastback was normally a XL trait, as is the steering wheel.
My parents had a 1969 LTD, 390, 2V...and a 3:10 rear axle ratio. It would get up and go. Those cars were lighter than most would think..3600 lbs. My parents bought it used in 1971....shiwing 56k. A few years later, Dad found out it was 156k as the owner was a traveling sales rep for PS, MD, DE, VA, WV, NC. I ended up driving it some my junior year in HS and to college. Notorious for oil return holes in the head for clogging up..from Quaker State Oil. We repaired that issue, and had to remove a head due to exhaust leaks. Dad sold it in the mid 1980s..it had been sitting in the yard for a while. It was showing about 60k...so it had about 215k...and it still ran well.
I wish I had it now...18mpg highway. The FE was great. They also had a 1973 Marquis Brougham, 429PI...yep, early model 73...I verified UT. Factory timing was 14 BTD.

With the rockers off and valvetrain closed you could hook a pancake air compressor up to a compression tester and give a cylinder a 125psi shot of compression which on a 390 with a 4.05" bore would be like 1400 pounds pushing down on the piston. Just find a piston near tds on each side that when moving down rotate the crank in opposite direction. Air pressure left bank to turn her one direction the air pressure right bank to turn her back but you need to bleed off the air each time.
