  • I found a decent 1969 GMC K20 pickup that's been sitting on a farm for 16 years. It's a factory 4 speed truck, with a posi 3:73 rear end, so of course, I just had to have it. Watch me try to get this old beauty up and running and go test on it! I just may or may not get stuck...

    Grandpa's chevy k10 1970 sat for 20 years, thanks to your channel got her running! All it needed was syphoning then derusting cab gas tank, blow out fuel lines with fresh fuel, fogging oil, sparks and junkyard battery. Purrs like a kitten on catnip.

    I love this show. I started wrenching on cars at 12 with my Dad and after dropping out of school at 15, was always forced to buy $200. junkers that I had to turn into daily drivers with only pocket change from crappy $5.an hr jobs. It brings back memories and the sense of accomplishment from saving a derelict old car and making it into something others admired is unbeatable. Nowadays I'm older, professional and earn enough to buy any car I want but the show takes me back and allows my hands to stay clean.
    Thanks Derek!

Also I can watch the complete transformation in 30 minutes or less, and was oblivious to the 4-5 hours spent doing some wrong, then fixing it. Going to get tools and supplies you forgot. And I didn't have to sit outside in the hot sun to see it all get done!

    I love vids like this, recently brought home an 84 K20 Suburban with a 4 speed that had sat for around 20 years but most of the time was in the fire department garage, it has very minimal weight reduction in the rear quarters frame was nearly mint, but engine had insane amounts of blow by I assume stuck rings but still drove and had decent power I actually drove it to work for a few weeks until it started having fuel starvation issues I was planning to run it til it blew before putting another 350 in, tried 4 different quadrafloods, New fuel pump, filters, many cans off berryman, I decided the issue was likely in the tank and parked it dropped the tank for cleaning and a new sock which I found to be choked off with crud. Swapped in another engine, mix of new and brand used parts and lines. Threw on a set of headers. Still needs exhaust but I drove it to the gas station and to town with open headers. Does great now just have to get it to the shop for exhaust!

    Years ago I bought a 67 C-10 long bed with a 350 and manual 3 speed. I got it real cheap because the garage only wanted what they had in it. From what I learned a customer brought it to them with a blown engine and supplied the engine he wanted put in it. When they started the new motor it didn't have any power and the owner didn't want to pay them so it set there for years . They finally got title with a mechanics lean and I bought it. When I pulled it home and took the valve covers off 4 push rods were lower than the others and rockers not touching them. My father in law was a mechanic and thought it had a bad cam But I noticed that when the engine was turned over the push rods moved up and down as much as the others but seemed too short. My father in law said no it can't be that simple. We pulled the lifters and 4 were badly worn. Put in a new set of lifters and drove it for another 6 years. Engine was still running strong when I sold it.

    Well like a lot of us out here that love watching you do this show, this is a gem I missed when initially binge watching your channel! It’s like reminiscing with a friend or brother on the good old times in the past! This one reminds me of an old friend that had a 69 Chevy 4 wheeler that was my drywall hanging partner. When we weren’t hanging drywall, we were off roading ! This was around 1971, in the SanFernando , Valley, Los Angeles and surrounding areas! We had a blast at work and our recreational off roading! But one thing I found out was that you can get more stuck , or stuck worse in a four wheel drive vehicle than a two wheel vehicle ! What’s crazy was we got stuck more , in town on muddy job sites than out of town moseying around exploring the local landscape! Now this Feller already knows why? You fellers figure that one out or yourselves! Well I’ll be dipped! 😂😜….

    I love this truck! The good thing about those 60's and 70's engines is there really isn't too much to them so they will eventually start after you've done the "process of elimination" trick.. That fan would have drove me nuts. Did you drive that home with no brakes?

      You never heard what GMC stands for? it means Great Mountain Climber!
      From 1968 to 1972 these trucks had been built tough and all steel transfer gear run cases and Turbo 350 or Turbo 400s and the engines had been made with High Nickle_+ Iron blend .

    My first vehicle when I was 16 was the Chevrolet version of that truck, a 1970 model that I drove for 12 years. I can’t tell you how much time I spent with my knees on the radiator and my butt stuck up in the air like that working on it.

    • @scarhart53
      @scarhart53 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@owenarsenault5955 Well, you can't wash the sheet metal unless you've got a heated garage to park it in, but then a heated garage accelerates the effects of the sticky salt they put on the roads. My '89 K1500 with 117K has a body that has partially rusted away from the top of the frame and suspension that has partially rusted away from the bottom of the frame, plus some holes here and there. Too late, I wish I'd at least washed the underside when it was ten below.

  • @tonyfremont

    My 66 gmc sat in the woods almost 20 years after somebody started stripping the motor, and the rest of it down, and tossing everything in the bed. I put it back together and it actually ran and I drove it to pick up a rebuilt short block, no oil pressure at all after it warmed up, no knocks or rattles. I feel like VGG is a long list relative of mine. It's a custom can and all the stainless trim was in the bed, along with all the original accessories. No nice, but more mud dauber nests glued to it than VGG's yellow stingray had ants.
