I pray that someday car manufacturers wake the heck up and find designers and build cars that have amazing curves and style, like this 1966 Chevy! Another awesome save Derek 👏 👌 👍 🙌 😎
My dad drove elcaminos as long as I can remember. I think he owned every body style except the last one ...they were made in Mexico and not available in Canada. This thing is absolutely beautiful to me. I'm 58 and I hope before I leave this rock that I can own one of these. Thank you for this video ....I'm picturing my dad driving in it. Wish he was still around so I could get him hooked on your videos like I am. Would love to watch an episode with him !
What a great rescue of this 1960 Chevy El Camino with upgrades on the front installing disk brakes, a new master cylinder, new carb and HEI distributor, new Crager wheels. Wow what an awesome old car!
Born and raised in Amarillo. Not like the rest of Texas we get a lot of snow and cold actually worked at the ski shop growing up. Love that you’re in the panhandle all the great things that exist. Keep it up.
lived in texas from 78 to 2012 an last time or so i recall a warm beautiful xmas day an snow on the ground easter day.that was 2008 or there abouts at waco tx.crazy weather all over anymore
The auxiliary tank could be because like everything in Texas, Texas is a big state. Back when Elvis was a sergeant before becoming the king gas stations weren't on every corner. It was a long ride between a fellas shack and Earl's Feed ,Tack + General Store for his cold snacks
Here in Australia 🇦🇺 we call them Utes and we love them. I love old cars my daily driver is a 1965 Chrysler Valiant AP6 made in Australia 🇦🇺 like meself and it’s a joy to drive no computer screens no sensors and no power steering or air conditioning either but like I tell the kids that’s what the windows are for. She also has drum brakes which I find little trouble with because if you don’t speed like an idiot the old drum brakes are sweet. When you’re doing 55 miles an hour it feels like 80 so it’s just great.
I’m from aus too I’ve got a 1970 HT kingswood wagon 186, power steering & AC. Been sitting 30+ years. I used to watch Derek but he’s too big now (all sponsored and just in it for the money) pole barn garage is way better
I got snowed in in Amarillo Feb '84. Black ice on I40, stuck at a hwy truck stop for 16 hrs. When the road opened, the next 30 miles was 4" ice ruts at 15 mph. Yikes!
Oh my God when the sparks flew from that starter made my day thanks. It was safe. Nothing happened. Good to know. I’m not the only one that this happened to you.
Mike you are a much braver man than me, considering the rust damage. Really not sure if brave is the right word but the old el Camino is back on the road and not collecting more dust.
Welcome to the Panhandle! Snow? 20 minutes from my apartment in Amarillo, hearing of coming snow blizzard conditions, I hit it for the door and my car. 20 minutes later, I had barely made it through the "avalanche" of falling snow on the road and got to the front steps. By then, the snow was 3 ft deep, with deep drifting beginning. Trapped in the apartment for a couple of days, it was steaks, beer, and boredom. It was the next day when they found a frozen body buried in the snow at the corner......
Back In 1990 I was working pipeline and a guy spent all winter in Borger Texas up by Amarillo and the locals said the only thing that separates North Texas from the north pole is a barbed wire fence.. yes sir it was cold....
The powerglide was a 2-speed transmission high take off in first gear higher than a turbo 350 and then a one-to-one drive in second gear that is why it became the go to automatic for racing cars!
New fan here. First time replying. Love your videos! Looking forward to this new series. Thank you for your great humor, tenacious spirit to complete a repair to driving condition and your creative mechanics. ~SoCal fan
Amarillo can, weather wise, be one of the most miserable places on earth! Admiral Byrd, on hearing it was 60 below zero, commented, "Man, if its this cold here, just think how much colder it must be in Amarrilo
Living in Ok. we went to Arizona and stopped by Cadillac ranch on the way. As soon as we opened the doors all we could smell was spray paint 🤢 It was the worst tourist attraction I've ever been to. Woopty dang do
I'm thinking that with that car's dubious past in conjunction with the higher front rake, I believe that car sported a hot big block at one time during it's life...
The ole girl needs some short tube music pipes and the fellers at volunteer muffler to seal the deal maybe a nice bumpy cam....u know increase the hp's....I love them fins and that steak...can a guy eat it all? Made my mouth water just thinking about it....the stars and stripes shine big and bright deep in the heart of texas...P for Houston P for Austin P for the state my heart got lost in.....
All of these options were a special order back in 1960 Auto PS/PB Factory A/C Am Radio were all options you had to pay for back then and were not cheap
Derek, caught this video yesterday and really enjoyed it. That Trar, Cruck? has a look that transcends all else. You didn't state the size of the motor but I'm guessing a 305? The windshield activity was a small disappointment but the rear glass was definitely cool. Chances of doing a heavy restore on this? It looks like a primo-cherry build candidate, or as close to that as possible without going crazy. Shine juice is fine but why not some homestyle spray-bomb paint? Simple, but classy. The wheels and tires definitely knocked it out of the park! Redline tires and mags! Yes! The interior looks like it can use the VGG treatment but that sheetmetal break at the cab/bed join is, like you said a welder's nightmare. Any chance that Paint-U-Cation can give a potential solution? Happy New Year to you and yours and thanks so much for bringing fun videos and though I don't know how you do it, all over the country like this, people like me are very grateful for the work and time you put into it.
I had a 60 Elcamino, had either a 348 or 409, wasn't sure of the difference, with a 4 sp, lowered so much it would not fit on the lift, anyway, I drove the tires off that truck/ car. Wish I had another one. Great looking ride.
I think Derek's wife doesn't care for El Camino (although she might find this one really pretty) he has to do stuff like this on MotorTrend's dime. Or, at least, used to :/ Wait... is that a dragon skeleton???
Amarillo is a long ways from the border, no this wasn't used in "The Mule" movie, All the parts just show up, including a mysterious aluminum radiator. And disk brake conversion, a great improvement but not in the Derik Berie VGG normal style.
put a 20gal boat tank in an old f250 truck years ago,65 model.used the same kind of valve but had it in floor drivers left so you just needed know which way turn it from main tank to aft.even wired fuel guage work each tank at switch flip an miss that truck
Wow lucky you ! when I went to Amarillo there were crops and it was blocked off for cars .I went to the steakhouse and bought the kids meal because I am 6'4" and weigh 220 so I did not think I could finish the adult size steak. There is CCTV there we might be able to watch you eat the steak ?
Derek is keeping the car community alive. He is a genuine, real deal kind of gut. Thank you
A 65 year old truck that has more character than 99%of modern vehicles. I'd own this in a heartbeat. 🇬🇧

My family visited my Grandpa in Denton, Texas during Christmas of 1959. He had a brand new 59 red ElCamino and took me for a ride. Great memories.
What a great rescue of this 1960 Chevy El Camino with upgrades on the front installing disk brakes, a new master cylinder, new carb and HEI distributor, new Crager wheels. Wow what an awesome old car!
This came online at a perfect time waiting for tomorrow's Vise grip garage episode so it's greatly appreciated

That is one good looking truck/car! You just can't beat them old vehicles!

Anything Derik touches comes to life
Now that is a beautiful car 64 years old nice job great video.
I love the way you hold up 5 fingers to indicate 3 gears and 1 finger to indicate 2 gears!
I love any El Camino, I hope you hold on to this one, great job!
I think this is the sweetest ride you ever rescued. Ever find out the story of the bullet holes.
You now have my dream car in your hands.
Dang Derik. I could've went all day without you pointing out 94' was 30 years ago.
my favorite body style, looks like you found new green glass for the rear window which is a plus
"The battery is still hooked up, up there".. lmao.
Thats never happened to me before....... ........ ........
Derek, always enjoy your videos!! Thanks for the information...and laughs!!

And two of the strands were down!
Im lucky i get to drive by Cadillac ranch frequently to buy stuff at home Depot in Amarillo.
I would absolutely LOVE to hear the "back story" of that cartruck. 😅
I bet it was used for moving moonshine
@@krazi77
I would almost guarantee it. 😏
@@krazi77 Maybe if it were in Tennessee :) In Texas, I'm thinking it was something a big stronger ;)
11:46 I felt that murder she wrote about to happen! 😂

Nice classic El Camino 🏁💪
Batteries still hooked up there 😂
You were pulling the carpet and for some reason, I was holding my breath.

Finding the sweet spot shims on a SBC (where it engages but lets go when you release the key) is SO fun. Sarcasm font. Lol
Wow 😳....
This huy is quite the feeller, fellers dream car.😮

Really nice. Great video. Keep up the great work
Love this El Camino !

Deleted motor trend after all shows got canceled
Nicest car you’ve ever done in my opinion! And I’m a Ford guy.

I HAD A 1973 EL Camino it was the best road car I ever had
My favorite car is a 67 Firebird drop top with the original 326 Engine The gear Changer on the Steeriing wheel with tilt
The mouse skull was the icing on the cake.... Welcome to road worthy rescues hahahahahahaha in the scary voice lol

It's the back glass for the El Camino. But what is the glass originally made for 🤔
Looks like Impala SS Wheels got put on it !😊

Jimmy dale shot that car when leaving the bar in lubbock texas after a heck of bar fight with some "motorcycle guys" 😂🎉🎉 good to see the car again wow

A 1960 El Camino, with a 409? .Me want, me want real bad!
It came stock with a 348 , I had one.
409 came out in early 61 , put in production cars in 62 with two four barrel carbs
The guy in the car wash was NOT amused. 😂😂
