  • Had a brilliant week with the Skoda Octavia VRS. It really did surprise me!
    What a great value, practical and sporty car. My only negative really was it is super refined on its sound, a louder exhaust would just add to this car!
    What do you think?

    I had a Mark 2 facelift in black then a Mark 3 in race blue, both DSG. The latter got referred to as the TARDIS as it was a blue box that was bigger on the inside! The Skoda salesman described it as a Golf GTi for grown ups.😂

    For the money, what’s better overall? 155mph, 6 1/2 secs to 60, 40+ mpg, massive space, looks good, awesome engine, reliable- what more do you want?

    Great video! Hallelujah for physical steering wheel buttons, a lot of car for today’s money. I quite like the orange but think the standard Hyper Green is my fav 💚

    I guess that the fact it is still under £40K, when spec’d with options is useful. The Golf GTI, even if only spec’d with metallic paint crosses that barrier and gets clobbered by “luxury car tax”.

    I love that colour .
    I have the rally green 3.5 vrs. Stage one takes them to a very capable and reliable 310bhp from the challenge model.
    It has a great spec and I’m really happy with it .
    A do it all car that needs for nothing more.
    I do get tempted to change it for something different but I just can’t fault it .
    Jack of all trades type but doesn’t master any but in a good way. Not the fastest.. nor the most exciting . But it does do it all well and very practical.
    I have a classic Fiat 500 I think you should review ! 😂❤

    Had my 22 plate vrs for 12 months. First 9 months spoilt by almost daily infotainment system crashes. Four trips to dealer later for software updates and it’s finally sorted. Last 3 months been loving it. Just gutted the state it was in when I got it. It’s probably put me off getting any future VW group products to be honest as I know it’s not just Skodas having software issues, which is a shame.

      Such a shame you went through so many issues with the car! Glad you’re enjoying it now. Hopefully less stressful!

    I've got the estate and I love it. Got the pano full length sunroof and the Caton stereo. Stage 1 and an exhaust and it is an absolute weapon.

      What sort of output are you now getting with the stage 1?These Skoda's are so nice.I have a superb Mark 3 with 280bhp and it's an animal,but you can also pootle about.

    If you’re willing to tinker with these like a lot of GTI buyers do it’s a better option. More space, nice looks, same Chassis. With an aftermarket exhaust and some lowering springs/coilovers it’s brilliant.

    How are you getting such good fuel consumption. Are you mostly driving highway speeds. Unless i to highway my one is around 21mpg

    • @ameliaautomotive
      @ameliaautomotive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A mixture of both! Was using eco mode for long motorway journeys worked really well.

    • @Kevin-dp1vy

      I have a Mark III estate with the DSG gearbox and have driven over 90,000 miles in it since new. In terms of fuel consumption ECO and Normal make quite a bit of difference depending upon where you are driving. Around town and in heavy traffic ECO is far more economical, especially with stop/start engaged. In Central London traffic I average 26 mpg with an average speed of 14 mph. If I am on normal A roads and below 60 mph then with ECO engaged I average 40 to 45 mpg. However if I put Normal mode on then I gain 10%. On the motorway anything over 65 mph then Normal mode is definitely more economical. Cruising at 80 mph on the speedo gives me 45 mpg all day. Incidentally the automated cruise control uses 10% more petrol than me driving without it. If I really push it hard on winding B roads then I get around the low 20’s, which to my way of thinking is fine. Oh and a trip on the Autobahn sitting at 100 mph gave me 30 mpg.

    Wouldn't call it a rival but it's a quickish practical family car

    It’s a bloody family saloon not a small hatchback…how can you compare it to a golf 🙄

    • @ameliaautomotive
      @ameliaautomotive  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      This car on paper is classed as a hatch although obviously it’s larger than a Golf. The Octavia vRS is the same engine as the Golf GTI. With the extra weight the speed isn’t matched but it’s the closest thing to a larger Golf GTI, hence the angle of this video. As a Golf GTI owner I find it interesting that there is something on the market that shares so many similarities but with more practicality. I’m not comparing them they don’t rival each-other rather give people more choice. Plenty of articles that go into the similarities of these two cars more. 😊

      If you arent aware why there worth comparing that sounds like a you issue. Same engine and drivetrain, built on the same platform etc but with different body styles. why not see how they compare and what suits who?
