      the drivers I followed as a kid in the 80s were all pretty much retired; the prior champion-announcer was one I followed for a long time; 17 is a number I use myself now.

    Just for the record before the we annihilated the lead change record, that did not occur in May 1994, it was May 1984. Since those records that you see, the only two that have not changed are the fastest race, and of course the qualifying speed.
    -The most lead changes is now 88 (April 2010 and April 2011).
    -Most leaders is now 29 (April 2010)
    -Closest margin of victory is 0.002 of a second (April 2011 Johnson over Bowyer).

    This is one of my Favorites of Junior's. However, I also agree with Junior when he said Jimmie Johnson's car was competitively as good as his own. I kept noticing how Jeff Gordon had a number of opportunities to bump draft Jimmie's car based on the fact it was obviously much faster then his own, and yet Jeff seemed to be more concerned with his own position rather then assisting his then "rookie" team mate. Hell, if you see that your car can't compete to win, then at least help your team mate and owner to get the win, whether he's a rookie or not!

      Matthew Mcdade I would just be satisfied to see Junior win just One Championship, and that's Only because I know that's what 'he' wants. :-) I doubt that Anybody will Ever match the Greats (Petty, Earnhardt, SR, David Pearson's etc..) again, because the field and Rules of competition have Changed entirely Too Much for that to ever happen. But Junior is also one of the best "skilled" Drivers around. And yes, thankfully he still has a few years to go yet. :-)

    • @Ktaurus26
      @Ktaurus26 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Matthew Mcdade lol. Not. The only reason jr went to the same building with Johnson was because Gordon wanted to work with Alan Gustafson so he took the old 5 team which became the 24 and jr took over the old 24 with Steve... Gordon was the top dog and made that choice. Jr should be thankful it was able to happen. He was horrible at Hendrick before the teams switched.

  • @roadbeef

    32:20 - Why are the DEI cars so good? Carroll Smith revealed it's because they've assembled a driveline that has about 6-8% less rotational drag than other teams. That translates to an advantage of roughly 20-40 hp, maybe more. Knowing this, it should come as no surprise they were always out front at plate tracks!

    This was what I consider a phase out towards a new and crappy generation of nascar. It was still the Winston cup but not not for long, no more Dale Earnhardt sr, Jeff Gordon still competitive and getting a W now and again, but not like he was, veterans who were once dominant were no longer a huge threat but still ran respectably (Gordon, Labontes, Jarrett, Ricky rudd, mark Martin, Geoff bodine, bill Elliott, Kenny Shrader, Kyle Petty). Some up and coming promising youngins like Newman, smoke, Johnson, Jr., Kenseth. Then you had some guys like Jeff Burton and Michael Waltrip who had driven for 10 plus years but were just starting to become a ssrious car to watch for and win every week

    Kenny should have had that spot, he was already established on the inside of SM before ducking below the line to avoid contact, since SM didn't see him and kept coming down. Then NASCAR went on to say that Dale Jr's identical move just a year later was clean and legal.

    That really was a bad call on Kenny by NASCAR. Kenny saw a window, took it, and Sterling blocked him. What did they expect Kenny to do, slow down and let Sterling pass so he can stay above the line? Not only that, but the 99 left Sterling no where for him to go. He couldn't give Kenny room to move up even if he wanted to. Come on now.
