This was an underrated race. I didn’t get to watch it live back then as I had school that day. I think I got home from school right when the race ended. So this was the first time I’ve watched this race completely, and it’s very good.
Probably blew up that day after being turned around in the stack up from the first caution. Gotta be careful turning engines backwards they do not like that. Only a matter of time til they blow after that in most cases.
@@austinmora1309 while that is true, I don't see what was wrong with what Vickers did that day. Other than ditching Jeff Gordon. And perhaps making his move too soon.
21:00 thats honestly embarrassing. If you do that poorly to avoid an accident, you should not be in the Cup series. Not sure why Hermie Sadler was in the race.
Last race with the old surface that had been used from 1979 to 2006. Now at both Daytona and Talladega handling isn't much of a factor along with tire wear.
Because of this race, my mom felt guilty about having me miss the race because of it being at Talladega. She then said that if a race gets postponed to a Monday, she’ll let me stay home to watch it ONLY if it’s Daytona or Talladega.
Was Sorenson credited as running in the end? Think I see that battered target car turning laps on the apron after he got caught in his third incident this race towards the end.....
I think the biggest reason he's boring is because it's so predictable. He dominated the sport for 5-7 years. That a problem I have with the sport as a whole today is that the same few drivers win week after week. It's not like it used to be...
@@MovieLover1995 There was likely a local news commercial during this race that told the local audience the times of their newscasts. The op gave us those times (maybe just for laughs), which inadvertently takes us to those exact junctures in this video.

i love watching these old races from when i was a kid
Lol these aren't that old, 2006 was only 14yrs ago......

Lol I love how the Roush guys just found a Biffle Taurus nose from 05 and just taped it onto Mark’s car! You will never see that again!
This was my first race i ever saw i was 4 years old and what a race!
The fact that they still had this MASSIVE CROWD even after it got rain delayed is unreal, they can’t even get Talladega sold out anymore
It just goes to show how much respect that track gets.
Noe Hernandez um, last year's Talladega races were both sold out.
2005 and 2006 was NASCAR's peak.
2:22:16 is one of the best paint schemes of 2006. its a shame labonte had to blow an engine
He also ran that scheme in the Fall race at Richmond.
Probably blew up that day after being turned around in the stack up from the first caution. Gotta be careful turning engines backwards they do not like that. Only a matter of time til they blow after that in most cases.
Amazing how full the stands on a Monday
Thank you so much for uploading this!!! I knew somebody had it!!! This race in particular is the reason why Talladega needs track lights installed.
RIP Steve Burns.
Thank you Dave W for the uploads.
I think you can tell by the way Vickers was racing in those final laps that he really wanted his first career points-paying victory that day.
He would end up getting it at the other Talladega race in 2006, but we don't talk about that finish.
@@whoasked9500 Yep he ran out of talent that day
That's because during a lot of these plate races stupid drivers cause more big wrecks than calmer more drivers with patience
@@austinmora1309 while that is true, I don't see what was wrong with what Vickers did that day. Other than ditching Jeff Gordon. And perhaps making his move too soon.
@@nascarfanatic2425 Later in the race I will agree with that assessment but on lap 9 Vickers needed to have more patience
Crazy this was the year before truex jr got his first career win in cup series
Skipped school that day to go to the race after the rainout on Sunday. Will Ferrell was the Gran Marshal on Sunday.
You would’ve had to skip school anyway. Your ticket would have already been paid for.
I was born when NASCAR was like this
Got a Monday Dega race on 10/4/2021
21:00 thats honestly embarrassing. If you do that poorly to avoid an accident, you should not be in the Cup series. Not sure why Hermie Sadler was in the race.
Cj Buford LoL
Hermie Sadler can't drive.
Lmao
ARCA brakes.
If they wanted the Aaron’s Dream Machine in the race so badly, they should have gotten a decent driver. Hermie Sadler sucks ass.
Last race with the old surface that had been used from 1979 to 2006. Now at both Daytona and Talladega handling isn't much of a factor along with tire wear.
But now they can make ballsy moves and the racing is more exciting
+SUPEREEVEEMASTER Now they run such a small spoiler that handling is a factor. July 2014 people actually had to lift at Daytona as the run progressed.
@@westcoastfishing2768 The racing is worse with more grip at the restrictor plate races

Man this was one helluva race. #ThisisTalladega.
11:21 - You say that but you’ll only foreshadow the big wreck Larry McReynolds. Just look at 18:19
2:54:38 - I see Greg Ives on the 48 Pit Crew

I believe this was the last race at Talladega before it was repaved
It's was
Yes, some
+Dave W do you have the rain out of the 2006 Budweiser shootout
Awesome finish at Talladega
Why do they have to tell us the crowd's going nuts every time Earnhardt takes the lead? It's Alabama. We know.
Was Sorenson credited as running in the end? Think I see that battered target car turning laps on the apron after he got caught in his third incident this race towards the end.....

Man I miss Shaun Alexander being a little OT
Elliot Sadler is always on the pole in restricter plate races

I was pissed when JJ won after all that craziness. I wanted an upset but I guess the best drivers always win
best as in most irritating and boring to watch

I've been to bristol but not talladega
2006 UAW-Ford 500? (HD?)
(I ask because what we currently have is in poor quality)
Taldega Quite Safe The three REALLY DONT MIX
The 97 became the 26
Dave W do u have any 2005 NASCAR races? If so I have a few requests
Broadcasts used to be so much better..the graphics..the commentary..and most importantly THE RACING! The new reduced HP and aero package is garbage
i was going to upload this a while back, as i have this race too, but you have beaten me too it
do u have the checker auto parts 500 2006 at phoenix?
+M&M Cup Series no, but i do have the last 2/3s of the spring race at phoenix in 2006
DW at 2:22:22 “STP stay together please “ had me 💀
How did Kasey get the wind knocked out of him? He didn’t hit anything that hard.
When he got tagged by David Stremme, he got sort of t-boned driver's side.

Does anyone like the stage racing
I’m personally not a fan of it. But I do like the double file restarts. Makes the racing more intense and exciting.
I would like it without the caution flag being thrown. The caution ruins the races and ruins any sort of pit strategy.
18:11 - 22:21 = Multi car crash
The Big One, actually.
Talladega was fun before the repave, now it's boring
To me, not much has changed.
