The boxed version I got as a kid was some kind of "Collector's Edition", with a short VHS on the history of Pinball, with commentary from Aerosmith's Joe Perry for some reason.
I own a later version of this game called 3D Ultra Pinball Thrillride. The feel of the game is pretty much identical to this, but it has a theme park look instead. The audio and graphics are much better as well.
+DaVince21 Creep Night was my pinball game of choice as a kid in addition to Microsoft Pinball Arcade. I'd love to see LGR talk about those. I remember great times on those.
Yup, my bad, forgot about this since my Windows 95 computer came with it (PLUS! and Space Cadet) pre-installed. And yes, I would like to review Full Tilt! Pinball at some point.
Omg all these sounds and pictures gave me the biggest nostalgia hit I've had in YEARS. Idk why but I have really strong memories of this from my childhood. I was never good, I don't think I ever made it past the first table, but those sounds are so memorable.
You gotta do a review of Thrillride. It outdoes the standard 3D Ultra Pinball by leaps and bounds. Decided to play a few games recently and man those callouts are cheesy and hilarious!
@@baddoomguy1986 Thrillride was one of my childhood jams back in the day. And living not terribly far from the real park, I can say Sierra did a really faithful job overall. While some rides are now gone, (RIP Canyon River Rapids and Flying Falcon. We truly miss you.) the environment and lines still holds up in all its cheesy fun.
I just checked your video about top 90s games and holy crap, you just reminded me of one of my favorite childhood games I've ever played the sierra pinball. It was totally in the dark recesses of my mind completely forgotten. I wonder how many other games I've played as a child and I don't even remember. Thanks so much!
Thank you for this! I finally decided to watch some of your videos after listening to the podcast of the my life in gaming stream you participated in! So cool that this is your job!
"for one thing, the music and sound effects really leave something to be desired".... Oh no, you did not just go there Clint. The insane electro-prog-metal midi soundtrack (sooooo mid-90's) is THE BEST THING about 3D Ultra Pinball!!! (Though yeah, the sound effects aren't great, I'll give you that).
Yes, the ball movement just feels "off" somehow. There are some definite problems with the physics too, like the ball not speeding up in the right places or passing through a bumper or something weird. But the wonky movement is my biggest issues with this one. Creep Night and Thrillride are my favorites of the 3DUP series, and they improved the ball movement somewhat though it's still not ideal.
I agree, and think you should consider reviewing Creepnight and The Lost Continent in the future. The latter especially, it was pretty neat seeing a pinball game trying to integrate a story into it at the time.
I just covered Diesel Stuff and Lucky Palms not two weeks ago... and Supernatural was only just recently announced, it doesn't come out until September. So yeah, I'll do more TS3 once it becomes available, but you'll have to wait! There will be other Sims and Maxis games covered in the meantime, as well as plenty of other stuff like the video you're commenting on :)
I remember seeing this and Outpost for $2-5 each in big computer stores back in the day, along with many other Sierra games. By the mid-90's the general cheesiness and hit-or-miss quality of Sierra games was at an all-time high, and prices were low not long after a game was released. Sad stuff considering how they were at the top of many genres on the PC just a few years before.
I actually played to the end of the game where you have to beat all five minigames unique to each of the three tables, build a bunch of items, and then finally launch into space. The key is to get as many continues and extra balls through the points rewards system. It took maybe about 5 hours to pull it off, which is stupidly long for just pinball and sadly, after you do all that, it just resets everything and it looks like you just started.
I think I managed to launch the rocket twice in one game once, but I don't remember it taking that long to do once I got the game figured out. Good times playing this game with my brothers.
I loved this game too! And I actually did succeed in launching the spaceship a few times. Once you figured out the physics, for better or for worse, it actually became pretty easy to predict and sometimes even take advantage of it.
I named-dropped several during the video... 3D Pinball/Full Tilt Pinball, Epic Pinball, Pinball Fantasies, the 3D Ultra Pinball sequels (Creep Night and Thrillride are my favs). Balls of Steel is another good one. There are also the Pro Pinball games for great 3D pinball. I'd also highly recommend Pinball FX2/Zen Pinball for modern consoles, those are some of the best pinball games I've played.
I do, yes, on both the PC and Playstation. Awesome freaking games, and some of the best before the FX and Zen games came about. Great physics, great graphics, creative tables, wonderful flipper action... mmm.
You know what's funny... You can get minigolf holes from all of those things in 3D Ultra Minigolf Deluxe. Judging by what you're referring to, those holes would be Dinosaur, Drive In Movie, Jungle Ruins and what comes to mind when thinking of rodents would be The Incredible Machine and The Even More Incredible Machine (Yes, they actually made minigolf holes out of those games too!)
This was my first with computers. Was born in 94’ and I dunno where this game came from, but I have the original copy, and a disk stamper burn that I use from time to time. Now you can just download it, but the original is in a safe 😂. Those 3 levels of music will never get old. Played on a Mac G3 originally, then my windows systems. Again, the original copy is in a safe. Means so much to me as a computer guy more than anything. Have lots of other sierra games, but as crapppy as this might be, it still hits home. Glad someone else is sharing this weird sierra game. Good memories.
What's odd about this game is the middle scoreboard. In 95' pinball machines were already hip deep into dot matrix displays (DMD), so it could have on screen animations on the playfield if the designers wanted to mimic modern pinball machines of the time.
Space Cadet was a table from Maxis' Full Tilt! Pinball. It wasn't included with Windows 95, you had to get the Plus! pack which included it. Microsoft bundled it with every version of Windows thereafter.
oh man I loved this game back in 96 ish when I was a kid, gaming on my Macintosh.... Thanks for the vid, I haven't seen footage of it for a loooong time.
I used to play the crap out of Space Cadet when I was a kid. I remember I could just keep making that shot into the bumpers on the left and after upgrading them a few times the score would become hilariously high. The Pinball Arcade by Farsight Studios has to be my favorite though. The fact they use real tables is what drew me, but the ball physics are actually quite good. They aren't perfect physics, and hiccups have happened to me, but it's pretty rare. I got so addicted to Black Hole, Monster Bash, and No Good Gofers for the longest time. There was a Whirlwind machine in a pizza place near me, that is obviously gone now. So being able to play Whirlwind and hear that "the storm is coming!" really great. Now if only I could time my fan to blow in my face at the correct times...
That is an awesome one indeed. Honestly though, it's like any other game anyone cares to mention... I may review it someday, who knows? I don't really plan ahead.
Whoa major nostalgia kicking in. My mom and I used to play this together on our mac. We got to the end a couple times, but right when the rocket would launch the game would quit. It was sooooo frustrating haha. But I loved it!
I got the 3D Ultra Pinball - Creep Night game. It's got a fun, spooky goofy environment layout, where you run over frankenstein monsters, tackle bats, mummies and various castle environments. It's a lot of fun, like this game is.
I haven't played this version but I was addicted to 3D Ultra Thrill Ride Pinball for many, many years. I loved that game and now watching this, I need to find a copy that works with Windows 10!
The one I remember playing the HECK out of, at least out of the pinball genre back when, Was 3D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night. Such a nostalgia overload. I really wish they would update those tables with the mechanics and everything of how The Pinball Arcade manages its physics and everything.
Not entirely sure. I loved real pinball games as a kid, and have loved them ever since. There's something inherently awesome about the physical-ness of it. Obviously, I am a big fan of actual pinball sims. But even if it's not the most accurate simulation, I like that computer pinball can do things that are impossible in real physical life.
Thrillride was the biggest cheesefest, and a blatant advertisement for Hersheypark; including the ability to get a Reese's Crispy-Something which awards 60,000 points. Hell yeah
Amazed you can still buy it. The Pro Pinball series are impressive to me, can be quite difficult to get to run though; they insist on launching at a higher task priority which messes things up. Just switch them down to normal and they run fine most of the time.
3D Ultra Thrillride is my favorite out of the 3D Ultra Pinball series. I also used to play 3D Ultra Minigolf and 3D Ultra Lional Train Town. I didn't have the deluxe version of them but they were still really fun. My copy of Traintown doesn't work right now, it's really scratched and my copy of 3D Ultra Minigolf is scratched but still works except for the voices, they won't turn on in the options.
Still my favorite Pinball video game. Would be cool if some things could be patched like tweaked physics and re-released in HD on modern computers and consoles.
I remember that game (and Creep Night; still have both around here somewhere)...they were okay but definitely not my favorite video pins. Ever try Microsoft Pinball Arcade? Tables modeled on classic Gottlieb tables, and even though the game came out around 1998 or so, it still works great even on modern systems. I have it configured to work with my Tankstick in an old Pengo cab. The Pro Pinball Series by Empire/Another Cunning Development were also very good video pins.
I remember playing this back then. It was so fun. I think I still have it somewhere. I have 3d ultra pinball creep night. Please review that one that was the best.
I found 3D Ultra Pinball Creep Night or whatever it's called at a thrift store, I was thinking of getting it for my Mac but it probably won't run on a 33MHz 68040.
Great review! I remember playing this one quite a bit back in the '90s, but in ways it seems like it hasn't held up all that well. I think Creep Night was a better effort with slightly better music and what not, but I feel one of the biggest issues in these games holding up better than they do is the wonky ball movement. Maybe not even so much the physics specifically, but the way that the ball doesn't roll completely smooth--it's kind of choppy. Even the Mac version I have has the same problem.
I've actually been looking for this game. As a kid I had a 3d ultra pinball demo disc that featured multiple themed pinball tables. With a full version of a haunted house, a version of this level but with a demo time limit and many more timed levels. Couldn't remember the name until now though!
Are you going to review Zany Golf for PC? Zany was also on Sega Genesis but removed some levels and mouse control. Stage specific actions for use with the mouse like Magic Carpet and Fans really added to the fun.
Nooo! You are completely and utterly wrong! 3D ultra pinball is amazing and by far the best pinball game for Windows 95. It has an actual space setting with the coolest special effects and the changing layout with bonus areas make every stage 3 times better than those found in other pinball games. You can spend hours upon hours playing this game without getting bored because it really is that awesome! Though I do have to admit that I haven't played the game in over 20 years and I was pretty young at that time so my memories of the game might not be perfectly accurate...
I loved all the 3d Ultra games. All the many 3d Ultra Pinalls, mini golf....so much awesomeness! Extreme pinball was pretty cool, though. Do you have a review of that?
LGR can I recommend you try out Delver? It is a free roguelike indie game kind of like Ultima Underworld. You run through a randomly generated dungeon to get an orb, then escape. With enemies, potions, traps, scrolls, wands, daggers, swords, armor, cheese, and other items ofcourse. Being easily moddable there are a few mods out already. You can find it on the TIG forums if you google. I have posted this a few times but you never seem to see it. Can you see it this time? I know you will enjoy it.
Clint when I was a kid there was some kind of pinball game on the Windows 98 SE Install disk... can't remember the name though.. I found it awsome, but only some halloween styled table worked in the demo version and the full version had lots of tables from pinball history.. looked freaking good, I always drooled on it :D
Do you remember a pinball game by sierra that took place on some weird dinosaur island and had a 1950s B-movie type storyline? and do you remember some other weird title that involved rodents or something living in the jungle or going to the jungle I forget as I barely played it it felt like chip and dale's rescue ranger in the storyline honestly
@phreakindee i'm pretty sure I sent my actual old recovery disc for my first computer. the disc had NEC branding and a ton of useless programs, but also some interesting things like a fmv introduction to Win95 by some dude in a wizard costume. it's an interesting look at what the average commercially bought pc came with...
Crystal Caliburn was my first pinball game, many hours were spent playing it at my grandfathers house on his old 486 running windows 95. The ball physics looked alot better than this, definately not as "floaty". I think you can still get the demo from the littlewing website if you wanted to give it a try.
Hey phreakindee, did you ever check out that Win95 recover disk I sent you in that one package a while back? If you ever need to reinstall Win95, use that disc. Lot of awesome stuff on there.
3D Ultra Pinball Creep Night is the game that came inbetween Thrillride and this space one, and is worth checking out too.
Phew. Sierra.
+DaVince21 Creep Night was my pinball game of choice as a kid in addition to Microsoft Pinball Arcade. I'd love to see LGR talk about those. I remember great times on those.
Oh, I remember that one! It got me interested in Hersheypark.
"Kissing tower...~" I remember that one too, yeah!
Yeah man, Thrillride and Creep Night are my favorites of the series. Rad games, definitely improvements over this one.
You gotta do a review of Thrillride. It outdoes the standard 3D Ultra Pinball by leaps and bounds. Decided to play a few games recently and man those callouts are cheesy and hilarious!

Yup. 3D Ultra NASCAR Pinball, also called Turbo Racing in Europe. I have both versions, interesting slight differences between the two.
Thank you for this! I finally decided to watch some of your videos after listening to the podcast of the my life in gaming stream you participated in! So cool that this is your job!
Absolutely, it's stashed on a shelf somewhere here. Love it.
Yep, the Colony theme was mindblowingly awesome for me as child, and still holds up today.
Yes, the ball movement just feels "off" somehow. But the wonky movement is my biggest issues with this one. Creep Night and Thrillride are my favorites of the 3DUP series, and they improved the ball movement somewhat though it's still not ideal.
Not having the error so I don't know. I've heard if you delete your Google+ account it might fix it, but yeah, no idea really.
Ha, man I still own DOS 2.11 and computers from the 70's... I'm a vintage collector, that's just what I do :)
I agree, and think you should consider reviewing Creepnight and The Lost Continent in the future. The latter especially, it was pretty neat seeing a pinball game trying to integrate a story into it at the time.
I plan to! Some of those later ones in the series like Lost Continent got pretty impressive.
Thrillride?

Id love a review of 3D Ultra Mini Golf
Guillermo best dynamix Game.
Same ^__^
Make it the *Deluxe* version!
Good timing on this video, I just purchased The Pinball Arcade on PSN, reliving some lovely pinball moments from my childhood.
I actually played to the end of the game where you have to beat all five minigames unique to each of the three tables, build a bunch of items, and then finally launch into space. As a Duke fanatic, it would be a crime not to review Balls of Steel.
It will happen.
Loved this game! Was so happy to find this!
I have a game called 3D Ultra Pinball Thrillride. It's basically 3Dish pinball in an amusement park.
I loved this game back in the day.
It's the music from... 3D Ultra Pinball :P

So cool to see LGR oldest videos too back when he was "just a vintage collector" ☺️

I played that demo WAY more than I did the full game. For free, you can't complain. Same with Creepy Night's demo... holy crap, the nostalgia.

Thanks for the video. this is one of my favorite pinball games ever! its so awesome and fun to play. Man, I miss Sierra!
This was one of my favorite games. We got it as a package deal alongside a HP Pavilion Win95 PC with a few other titles from Sierra.
They did a decent job on the Nascar pin ball game. It's actually in 3d and runs pretty good.
Whoa major nostalgia kicking in. My mom and I used to play this together on our mac. We got to the end a couple times, but right when the rocket would launch the game would quit. It was sooooo frustrating haha. But I loved it!
OH MY GOD YOU REVIEWED THIS GAME HOLY FUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKKK
I still play it to this day.
The sound effects for this game are great, I played this game back then just to hear them
I got the 3D Ultra Pinball - Creep Night game. It's got a fun, spooky goofy environment layout, where you run over frankenstein monsters, tackle bats, mummies and various castle environments. It's a lot of fun, like this game is.

I had 3D ultra pinball as a kid, got it as a gift, I played it SO much. I think I had a roller coaster themed version
The one I remember playing the HECK out of, at least out of the pinball genre back when, Was 3D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night. Such a nostalgia overload. I really wish they would update those tables with the mechanics and everything of how The Pinball Arcade manages its physics and everything.

Can you please talk about 3D Ultra Pinball: The Lost Continent? It was an absolutely glorious cheese fest
"I don't believe it... but there it is. A triceratops!"
"Looks like he wants to play a little ball!"
Was what I played as a kid
Thrillride was the biggest cheesefest, and a blatant advertisement for Hersheypark; including the ability to get a Reese's Crispy-Something which awards 60,000 points. Hell yeah
I'm alive, can't complain.
Amazed you can still buy it. The Pro Pinball series are impressive to me, can be quite difficult to get to run though; they insist on launching at a higher task priority which messes things up. Just switch them down to normal and they run fine most of the time.
My favorite pinball game ever which I got when it came out as a kid as my Christmas gift for mac.
My family and I all played this when I was growing up and we all loved it. I had no trouble getting the ball to do what I wanted 85-90% of the time.
OH WOW, I still have my Windows 98, I had the 3d pinball space cadet game, PLAYED IT ALL THE TIME!!!!
It will, actually! As long as you have at least 12MB RAM, a 33MHz 68040 is what it requires.
Ah, okay! This thrift store tapes their CDs shut and I wasn't finding system specs on Google. I currently have 8MB but it will be 32MB soon enough.
I had Thrillride. The music in that game RULES
Oh god I remember this. This music, those levels, the memories. I also remember the monster themed pinball.
Hey LGR, can you review Silver? It's an rpg classic for PC. Please!
I have that same Sid Meier's Pirates in the box for PC and Genesis!
Plus you have 3D Ultra Mini-Golf? That game was incredible.
Man, I loved Outpost.
thanks for bringing back memories of my childhood i had the creepnight version of this game that version used to 'creep' little me out
I loved this game. I wonder if I still have my copy.
Any chance at reviewing the greatest pinsim ever, Pro Pinball Timeshock!?
Yes, the exclamation point is part of the title.
What about EA's Pinball constrution set?
I'd love it if you reviewed the 3D Ultra Nascar Pinball. That's one of the first games I've ever had.
You should review 3D Ultra Minigolf. I still love it today.
I've actually been looking for this game. As a kid I had a 3d ultra pinball demo disc that featured multiple themed pinball tables. With a full version of a haunted house, a version of this level but with a demo time limit and many more timed levels. Couldn't remember the name until now though!
Respect to own again the game's box :O I remember the music from the Mine Level... one key note...
Love the vids man, just wondering if you ever did a ultra mini golf review? Great game. Thanks!
I have just two words to say about this.....
Phew! Sierra!
Are you going to review Zany Golf for PC?
Zany was also on Sega Genesis but removed some levels and mouse control. Stage specific actions for use with the mouse like Magic Carpet and Fans really added to the fun.
They also bundled with it with every version of Windows NT, 4.0 onwards, including XP.
Do you have a review of that?
anyone else remember 3d ultra creep night pinball?
no?
ok...
+Goggles Tigerkhan I do! I do! Also the "Lost Continent" one.
"I don't believe it, but there it is! A triceratops!"
SmaMan "aim for the energy gate for goblin goodies!"
I do. It's my favorite pinball game ever, I guess. Loved the Tower level
Goggles Tigerkhan Goblin goodies, get the bonus! Haha
I actually have that Version bundled in s copy of After Dark 4.0 Deluxe
I loved the later dinosaur one in the series, and the spinoff 3d ultra mini golf
All those box arts look so amazing, after looking at the gameplays most of the time I don´t want to see the two in connection though.
The game title logo on the box looks like Xenon 2 on Amiga.
I played this game maybe 200 hours back in the days. Got the original CD-ROM somewhere
I agree completely. I have a copy of Big Race USA on PSX but sadly I lost the manual and now the disc is all sad and lonely.
I think it's time to bring back the tweed chair.
You have indeed nailed the Duke Nukem voice.
Just spent a whole day lauging at "THE FASTEST PINBALL IN SPACE!"
Finally a review. I love them. But can I ask one thing, can you please make "LGR Plays - The Bindings of Isaac"?
Ah, played that Creepy Nights demo all night long.
Man, that sounds pervy :P
How about a review of 3D Ultra Minigolf?
Did you ever play Microsoft Pinball Arcade?
I loved the atmosphere and detail in that one; even though it wasn't too popular/successful.
This game reminded me Extreme Pinball with it's amazing music for Rock Fantasy
@phreakindee i'm pretty sure I sent my actual old recovery disc for my first computer. the disc had NEC branding and a ton of useless programs, but also some interesting things like a fmv introduction to Win95 by some dude in a wizard costume. it's an interesting look at what the average commercially bought pc came with...
Would you ever do LGR plays QWOP?
Crystal Caliburn was my first pinball game, many hours were spent playing it at my grandfathers house on his old 486 running windows 95. The ball physics looked alot better than this, definately not as "floaty". I think you can still get the demo from the littlewing website if you wanted to give it a try.
Do you happen to have a copy of 'Thrillride' too? Used to be my favorite pinball game.
Hey phreakindee, did you ever check out that Win95 recover disk I sent you in that one package a while back? If you ever need to reinstall Win95, use that disc. Lot of awesome stuff on there.
0:58 - I see postal on your shelf.. Have you done a review on that?
Not yet, but I was playing through it recently for a possible review!
Space Cadet is still delivered with Windows, atleast it was in XP.
