I get the desire go back and re-watch all your old reviews like once every year or so, hahah. I love this era of TH-cam and you've covered such a great selection of obscure games that no one else has really touched on.
The ending= "We blew all our money on the full motion video and we're overbudget and late with the arrival date so let's push this thing out the door!!!"
MS included a flyer in the box, advertising "Deep in the ocean you'll have everything under control with the MS Precision Pro Joystick"...which was a pretty good joystick. 4 Axis, 8 Buttons, POV ... for a game that only uses 2 buttons and is better played with mouse in the first place. This Xmas I learned that graphics are not everything and that commercials are complete bullshit.
The game had such a good high paced orchestral soundtrack, which was included in full as cd tracks on the forth disc! Oh I listened to it for hours and hours as a kid...
Hey there, Rainbow Studios did have a sequel for this game in development, but it was in the form of a movie called Blue Planet. Rainbow went banktrupt and was attempting development as late as 2009, but the IP was sold to THQ around 2010, which is now owned by their now-defunct property. There were a few old sites that had some good HD images of some of the models and such. The story also picked up after the 1st game. Thanks to the aliens losing their foothold of Earth, EOA now has the task of cleaning up, along with checking out the rest of the solar system to see what else had happened. From the screenshots and the trailer it looked very promising. If it wasn't for the bankruptcy, it would've been released.
Blue Planet had a trailer and it's one of the worst I've ever seen. It mocks Pixar movies which are remembered a lot more than it even is. It tries to be all dark and mature but doesn't tell you much about the actual movie.
Dude - I gotta say that I love your channel. About 90% because of the awesome content - it's like a time machine back to my childhood. But also because you have such an amazing voice. Seriously - you should consider doing voice work for cartoons or movies or something.
One cool feature of Deadly Tide was that it included the soundtrack by composer Mark Stratford on disk 4. He also did the music for a number of other titles from Rainbow Studios, including The Hive. For a time when game music still was light years from the orchestrated scores that we have now that can be on par with the quality of motion pictures, it was an impressive contribution.
I remember when my friend got Windows 95 and showed me the Weezer video, believing it was actually a clip from Happy Days, and he was like 'Music was so much better back then. '
You have a great voice to fall asleep to. I'm one of those people that leaves Netflix running all night, but I never used to do it with TH-cam. I've been doing it with these videos lately though and I gotta say, it's working great. It's fun to see which random game review I wake up to every morning. Today is Deadly Tide!
Meanmanturbo! That's it! Oh man I've been looking for this game forever! Incoming was the bomb! I used to spend days on this game. Loved all of the missions and vehicle types.
When i was 11 year old, this game made me fall in love with those kind of games, its a simple concept and actually fun to play, i own a old pentium 3 pc now and i have this game installed, it indeed shows its age, but its quite charming, its fun to go back in time sometimes
Dudeee this game was my jammm! I used the joystick and played this shit all the time pretending I was in the ship and everything, fuck man such a great game
The split second before that pilot said "Welcome to Earth", a hogshead of cliches stormed into my brain: "I'm gettin' too old for this shit." "That's going to leave a mark." "Tell my wife I love her very much." "She knows!" "Get off my plane!" "Give me back my son!"
This was meant to be a tie in game for a movie called "blue planet" also developed by rainbow studios. Sadly that got canceled (sorry if someone already posted this)
I would love to see you cover the Terminal Velocity trilogy at some point. I was a big fan of Fury3, and I enjoyed the short stint I took in Hellbender. Actually, classic Terminal Reality games were kind of neat, before they became a Kinect game developer.
I remember back in days when I played first time DT - man! Soundtrack and graphics just crushed my little child mind! Thanks to this game i start learning 3D :) And now I'm 3D artist in full time :)
For a moment I was hoping this would be a review of "The Daedalous Encounter", which I really enjoyed playing back in the day and they shared a somewhat similar theme. Better ending though! ;D
Man, I played this game a bunch as a child, even with the option of better games like Doom II and Hellbender. The soundtrack is killer. The setting is imaginative. It has the absolute sickest UNDERWATER CARRIER and UNDERWATER FIGHTERS a young boy could ever dream of. And the alien architecture was gross and weird enough to feel threatening. Plus, you got to steal and fly a cool alien fighter! Like any good Saturday morning cartoon plot. I loved it.
I never even knew this demo was on the Win95 CD. We actually got a demo of a FMV game with our Packard Bell called Silent Steel. My father liked it so much, he actually bought the full game! I also have a copy of Star Trek: Borg around here somewhere too.
Great commentary. You're good. I'm ex-Microsoft. Got every game from that era, and a machine to still run them. Dont forget the super spiff sidewinder controllers. I still think the first version of Motocross Madness is the top shelf. They spent quite a bit on the soundtrack.
I remember this game trailer. Parts of it were in that "Where do you wanna go today?" video with that rockin tune. And Ialso rmember having hellbender as a demo. It was a lot of fun. Took me years to work out what it was.
I think it's worth mentioning that Deadly Tide started its life as a movie tie-in game...except the movie, Blue Planet, was never finished, with what had been completed being repurposed into Deadly Tide. That might explain the incoherent story and the lack of an ending. You can actually find the trailer for Blue Planet on TH-cam if you look hard enough!
Both Deadly Tide and Independence Day were released in 1996 - which one came up with the 'Welcome to Earth' finisher first? Or is it just some astronomical coincidence...😧
At the guy who said do a hellbender review. Oh yeah! I still remember getting this with my dad and brother at Sams many years ago on a rainy day. I think it was dual game pack and they came together :) Wonderful memories.
One of my favorite things on that 95 disc... Hover!
4 ปีที่แล้ว
I sure remember Hover and played for so many hours, and that Good Times sound clip, even searched for it many years later... Don't remember that Tide game tought.
loved this game as a kid. Reason for the game ending the way it did, was because there was SUPPOSED to be a movie sequel, called Blue Planet. by Rainbow Studios. it never got finished. boo... Honestly would love a sequel game to this. could be pretty cool.
Oh god. Those old Windows demo discs were amazing. There was an old Top Down RPG on one of them once called earth something or another, I was sad I lost that disc because I can never found that game ever again and really enjoyed it =(
I remember seeing the trailer of this game on a demo disc, in a PC game magazine. I thought the graphics in the game was just as good as an Hollywood movie. I never knew this game was just a rail-shooter.
I remember watching my dad play this when I was little because I sucked at it. I remember when we beat it we had the reaction of "oh...well...at least we saved the planet"
I guess it depends on who's getting restrained: I'd prefer soft flexible rope to being handcuffed, but handcuffs are easier to put on and take off if your doing the restraining.
I thought I should ask you since you are the king of 90's era pc games. There was a game that came bundled with our pc (maybe late 96/97) that was very similiar to this but it wasnt pre-rendered it was a space game where you got to attack aliens in three or four different vehicles (different vehicle for different stages) : tank, helicopter, jet, and something else. All first person and graphics were awesome for the time. Techno music soundtrack if i remember. Any ideas?
Great review with some good humor! The Hive actually came out on the original Playstation, but it was definitely NOT made for the controllers! I'm not sure if it works with the Playstation mouse.
What I want to know is if that one dude who wished you good luck at the end was actually Captain James Cutter, and this was all an elaborate teaser trailer for HALO years later.
:) THANK YOU, Not sure if you saw my last comment on one of your videos.. "yeh i know very descriptive" but i asked if you could review the games that was on the windows 95 CD sampler aka Odyssey. im not sure if deadly tide was on there. But i sure as hell remember it. thanks, for conciously or sub-conciously fulfilling my request.
I believe you should totally perform a review of the original elite game. It's a complete classic of the space sim genre. I saw you had it on your shelf in one of your vids and thought that it's time for a proper review. Especially that it's latest sequel is still going strong and I don't see you doing any classic space sim reviews. Could be a nice change.
also ever play Gahan Wilson's Haunted House for Windows 95 and 98 (might even be for DOS) it was a halloween-themed point and click adventure where you could create your own frankenstein monster, craft items, make recipes, collect and trade items and more. you need to find the 13 keys to the grandfather clock in the lobby before 13 o clock in the game or else you get boarded up into the haunted house for all eternity. check it out if you haven't!
This is weird, I just found out about this game yesterday on movie tropes, and now you are reviewing it. Apparently this was supposed to be a game based on a CG movie that got canceled. The trailer for the movie poked fun at Toy Story and A Bugs Life, and kills The ant guy and Buzz Lightyear. I forgot the name of the movie but it was something planet I think.
Finally I found this game! it was hard to find what name of this game i play this game when i was kid only at age 7~9 old , i think it was uncommon game in South korea Thank you
Hey LGR, have you ever heard of a pc game called 'Ravage'? It came out around '96 or '97 I believe, and pit you against bizarre looking aliens. Also, I believe it was first-person.

I still stand by the fact that 'Somewhere, out there, Phil Collins is nodding in agreement.' To be the greatest LGR quote of all time.
together with "High fantasy socialism"
"This is why you don't do stupid cliffhanger endings if you don't know for sure that another game is on the way"
Tell that to Valve.
Hey kid, want some prequels?
Pain 🪦💐
"I've already lost the game and I haven't even got past the back of the box" made me laugh out loud
The ending= "We blew all our money on the full motion video and we're overbudget and late with the arrival date so let's push this thing out the door!!!"
But hey atleast everything WORKS and doesn't crash as soon as you push a button unlike some modern games out there...
"I've already lost the game and I haven't even gone through the back of the box"
EPIC! Even 7 years later, this still makes me laugh. 👍🏽😂

"We made a FMV game!"
_pauses_
"I SHOULD MAKE A MOVIE! Call my agent!"
Blue Planet had a trailer and it's one of the worst I've ever seen. It mocks Pixar movies which are remembered a lot more than it even is. It tries to be all dark and mature but doesn't tell you much about the actual movie.

Thank you! I've done some voice work for video games, trailers, various audio projects :)
Awesome - keep it up then! Would love to check out any games with you included.
He's the voice behind Duke Nukem actually. An alternative voice. =P
Voice awesome - Agree!
bchoward0000 He reminds me a lot of one of the really good NPR hosts.
that exit->are you sure button on main menu was so clever!
I know right! As an indie game developer myself I thought: "YOINK!" when I saw that!

Hahahah back then I wondered how the hell they combined the actors with the band, although I suspected the dancing Fonz was not really him.
@@TheJosep70 Pretty sure that was the actual Fonz ..they used clips from the show and inserted weezer in the background
@@shaolinXtreme No, check out when he's dancing in front of the band with his back to the camera, it's not him.
I loved that game! I played it for weeks! I really enjoyed the underwater sounds!
2:46 , the Microsoft logo music and presentation is amazing!
You've GOT to review that Magic Carpet in the background!
"There was everything, audible explosions in outer space" hahaha
You have a great voice to fall asleep to. I'm one of those people that leaves Netflix running all night, but I never used to do it with TH-cam. I've been doing it with these videos lately though and I gotta say, it's working great.
It's fun to see which random game review I wake up to every morning. Today is Deadly Tide!
You should definitely review both games! I have such fond memories, great graphics, storyline, puzzles. Such an underrated gem.
Meanmanturbo! That's it! Oh man I've been looking for this game forever! Incoming was the bomb! I used to spend days on this game. Loved all of the missions and vehicle types.

I swear you and I had the same childhood/teenage years.
OMG I still have this game! I loved it so much.
Dudeee this game was my jammm! I used the joystick and played this shit all the time pretending I was in the ship and everything, fuck man such a great game
The split second before that pilot said "Welcome to Earth", a hogshead of cliches stormed into my brain:
"I'm gettin' too old for this shit."

"Get off my plane!"
"Give me back my son!"
This was meant to be a tie in game for a movie called "blue planet" also developed by rainbow studios. Sadly that got canceled (sorry if someone already posted this)
Excellent choice for background music in the first few minutes. One of my favorite songs from the 6th episode of the Jazz Jackrabbit.
man, I'm loving all these dos games reviews that I played demos for but could never afford to buy. subbed
I played a lot this game when i was a child. Seen this video was just like a deja vu. 20 year ago.... memories.
I remember this game fondly
For a moment I was hoping this would be a review of "The Daedalous Encounter", which I really enjoyed playing back in the day and they shared a somewhat similar theme. Better ending though! ;D

Love it how your POD page is still up after all these years Clint
Great job dude, you make the best reviews on youtube.
I never even knew this demo was on the Win95 CD. We actually got a demo of a FMV game with our Packard Bell called Silent Steel. My father liked it so much, he actually bought the full game! I also have a copy of Star Trek: Borg around here somewhere too.
If Clint ever started an ASMR channel, I would subscribe to it in a heartbeat. His voice is so soothing and great to just listen and relax with
So you're saying this isn't a ASMR Channel?
Aliens: Arrive
Mankind: We don't know anything about them. So far they haven't done anything.
also Mankind: Lets blow 'em all up.
What I remember from my ever first PC was the Encarta95, the game Hover and the music Good times.
So great to see this. I also loved this game as a kid.
The graphics were awesome back in the days.
Sad that the "magic" of this game is gone nowadays.
Great commentary. You're good. I'm ex-Microsoft. Got every game from that era, and a machine to still run them. Dont forget the super spiff sidewinder controllers. I still think the first version of Motocross Madness is the top shelf. They spent quite a bit on the soundtrack.

I had this and Rebel Assault II. I loved them at the time!
Oh man, I haven't thought about this game in years. Thanks for the nostalgia!

I had this and the Hive years ago. But my favorite of these FMV on rails shooters was "Wetlands."
Loved this game as a kid. Played it to death. Completed it more times than I can count lol
One of my favorite things on that 95 disc... Hover!
I sure remember Hover and played for so many hours, and that Good Times sound clip, even searched for it many years later... Don't remember that Tide game tought.
this game is amazingly nostalgic for me, and the music is fantastic.

Love Your Reviews!
Can you review the Microsoft pc game "urban assault" please?
Yay, HL Opposing Force! You should review HL1. Go over the campaign, the mods that lead to seperate HL1 mods and a brief talk of the sequel and stuff.
Really neat review - never heard of this game.
Oh god. Those old Windows demo discs were amazing. There was an old Top Down RPG on one of them once called earth something or another, I was sad I lost that disc because I can never found that game ever again and really enjoyed it =(
I briefly thought LGR said 'developed by Rambo' and I was convinced that this was going to be the best game ever!
I remember seeing the trailer of this game on a demo disc, in a PC game magazine. I thought the graphics in the game was just as good as an Hollywood movie. I never knew this game was just a rail-shooter.
holy shit it took me two months to re-find this game.
my childhooooooood
I remember watching my dad play this when I was little because I sucked at it. I remember when we beat it we had the reaction of "oh...well...at least we saved the planet"
Those Microsoft sounds are the 5th and the inverted 6th chords from Oh Sherrie by Steve Perry.
Well I shoulda been gone!
I've been trying to remember the title of this game for YEARS.
Someone wants to be Randy Quaid? What a bleak future we are heading toward!
Prefer handcuffs to rope. Rofl. That was so unexpected, good one LGR.
I guess it depends on who's getting restrained: I'd prefer soft flexible rope to being handcuffed, but handcuffs are easier to put on and take off if your doing the restraining.
Ahh the nostalgia. I got this game with my first computer. I Can't remember the year but it was Pentium 2 (333Mhz), Ati Rage 8Mb, Maxtor 40Gb HDD.
Also, the soundtrack is FRIGGIN AMAZING
I totally remember the preview for this. And the Weezer video! Glad to finally see this game in action.
I would love to see a review of the "not-on-rails" shooter from Microsoft, Hellbender. This was the game I played around this era.
prettyy amazing for its time...
Actually this game was a blast to play back then!
I wished they had made “Descent under water” with this game.
the FMVs in this game remind me of the CG work in Babylon 5.
"Somewhere, out there, Phil Collins is nodding in agreement." Hahaha, brilliant.
That Opposing Force game box in the beginning though...damn
I thought I should ask you since you are the king of 90's era pc games. I remember that ending left my 13 year old self looking all over the map trying to find the next part.
Is this the disc that had the Manhattan Space Station FPS-style section in it? Do you remember that one?
0:57 I don't know if I love or hate the person who tagged the Half-Life box.
I REMEMBER THIS! I've been trying to remember what it was called for years!
Great review with some good humor! The Hive actually came out on the original Playstation, but it was definitely NOT made for the controllers! I'm not sure if it works with the Playstation mouse.
What I want to know is if that one dude who wished you good luck at the end was actually Captain James Cutter, and this was all an elaborate teaser trailer for HALO years later.
they took the "welcome to Earth" Independence Day line, and they weren't even on Earth when he said it... what??
its like the ending to duke nukem forever
Was not aware of that version of the Microsoft logo. The animation is the same as Monster Truck Madness and Hellbender, but with a different sound
:) THANK YOU, Not sure if you saw my last comment on one of your videos.. “Probably the most anti-climatic ending I’ve ever seen.” Greetings from the future! Just wait for Doom Eternal the Ancient Gods part 2.
also ever play Gahan Wilson's Haunted House for Windows 95 and 98 (might even be for DOS) it was a halloween-themed point and click adventure where you could create your own frankenstein monster, craft items, make recipes, collect and trade items and more. you need to find the 13 keys to the grandfather clock in the lobby before 13 o clock in the game or else you get boarded up into the haunted house for all eternity.

I was today years old when I found out there was samples of stuff on that Windows 95 CD!!! I never bothered running it 🤦🏻♂️
Finally I found this game! it was hard to find what name of this game
i play this game when i was kid only at age 7~9 old , i think it was uncommon game in South korea
Thank you
Nice review. Hope you find a good and sturdy pair of new balls soon :/
I tried to get this to work on Win98 in VMWare 9, but it's too slow :(
Any recommendations, short of getting an old PC?
It works just fine on a modern PC without using VMWare, or at least it did on mine.
Lazy Game Reviews
Haha, didn't even occur to me to try that :) Yes, works fine!
+Chris G howelse wouldyou doit? dont tellnmeninsutalled vmware on a win98 computer to run win98 in a virtual machine? just wow
No, obviously not. I have Win 7 running VMWare, and Win98 as guest. "just wow"
I remember this game when i was about 7, I’ve never been more angry than an old guy chasing varmints off his lawn with a pellet gun
yes, I imagine at the time.....infact, I know at the time, that would have been a trouser wettingly good game :o)
Hey LGR, have you ever heard of a pc game called 'Ravage'? It came out around '96 or '97 I believe, and pit you against bizarre looking aliens. Also, I believe it was first-person.
