  • This video takes a nostalgic journey through 17 things Destiny 1 Did Better Than Destiny 2. D1 and D2 are two unique games each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but there are definitely some awesome D1 features that veteran players miss. Although the majority of D2 players seem to prefer D2 over D1, there’s still a significant portion of the playerbase saying Destiny 1 is better than Destiny 2. Which game do you prefer, and why do you like it more? Let me know in the comments.
    I also want to point out that I could easily make the reverse version of this video. That is, Destiny 2 does so, so many things better than Destiny 1. Remember when we had to go to orbit before launching any activities? This video's purpose is simply to recall some of our favorite D1 features that have yet to adequately make it into D2.

      @henrymeyer4667 2 ปีที่แล้ว +110

      Yeah the first game was about mystery, exploration, and discovery. Now that we’ve scouted out the universe and established a foothold from the first game, the second is more of an action adventure shooter. Not that it’s a bad thing, but the story of the first game had us going out and traveling to new places. The first time we go to planets and establish transmat locations for future outings isn’t something we get in the second game. It’s just not necessary and there isn’t as much mystery. The soundtrack is more heroic in the second game. Grasp of Avarice has a unique feel from the rest of the game because of the music taken from the first game to add that ambiance that most of d2 doesn’t quite have.

      D1 had a way darker tone than D2 does.
      D1 had a very cold and mysterious atmosphere. It emphasized that humanity was on the brink of extinction due to the solar system becoming infested with evil/sinister beings. You felt alone.
      D2 kinda switched directions and went more star-wars like, where humanity is starting to prosper again and the guardians are out flying around in the system making jokes and beating up bad guys.

    Art direction on armor and weapons were just more tasteful back then. I like(ish) most of what they release in D2, but there's this lived-in quality to many of D1 (especially y1) items that are so much less gaudy than so much of D2's stuff. You mentioned titans. For the content model I prefer Forsakens model of having a big expansion followed by 3 seasons rather than the current 4 per year. D1s replayability really carried it through the droughts. I think seasons shouldn't always be a bunch of stories in between expensions. In my opinion, it would be better if it was just 3 content seasons like we have now and 1 season to add things to already existing content or bringing back good D1 stuff. For exemple, the cosmodrome is empty rn, then they should readd stuff from D1 and make it free so that new light isn't just 2-3 D1 reskinned missions. Same for the moon or activities that lack specific content like Strikes. They just need to try something new for D2, go out of their comfort zone and stop making everything good paid with only 3 good things that are worth it a year.

    Here is my two cents on the Destiny 1 expansion style vs the Destiny 2 season content. The reason I like the D1 style more is because I don't have to wait for anything. I can play to my hearts content, and I don't feel like I HAVE to play the game otherwise I'm going to miss something. With seasonal content, if I don't get everything done in a certain amount of time, it goes away, and I miss the opportunity. Meanwhile, five years later I can still go and do literally anything from Destiny 1. The Destiny 2 style of release supports a "I basically only play Destiny" type of player, while the "I want to play Destiny and other games" is supported by Destiny 1.

      It's also better for people like me. To the surprise of many, outdoorsy people can also be avidly enthralled by the lore and gameplay of a hugeass mmo like Destiny. So trying to balance working on cars, camping, working out, and Destiny 2's short content window can be a real challenge.
      Especially when just trying to be honest with myself. I have it in me to ABSOLUTELY no-life this game, but frankly I don't like myself as much whe nI spend all my free time playing video games. The dopamine cycle overwhelms me. I have to force myself to only play the game in short bursts ("This week, I'll play D2, but after that it's back to business") because otherwise I will atrophy, grow lazy, and ultimately let go of frankly much more important things. I missed out on a bunch of Nightfall content, the freaking Pirate season which sucks because holy crap that looked so fun, and a bunch of the content from the first season of Shadowkeep. I wouldn't go back and no-life the game during those times if I could, because I did more fulfilling things in the meantime, but I wish I could go do that content now, but I can't.

Probably ran that specific strike itself 50 times when I was lucky to get it, but I didn't care because the strikes were still fun (with the exception of the undying mind). Even after I had finally gotten Baron's Ambition I still enjoyed playing the strike playlist whenever my friends weren't online. Now since they chose not to bring that over I feel no reason to play strikes other than to complete bounties when needed. To be honest I can't stand strikes anymore ever since d2 came out. I feel like the strikes are just not enjoyable compared to d1. Not only that but in d1 when you would play the playlist you would get a chance to get any strike in the game. Now if feels like every week the playlist rotates between the same 3 strikes and only those 3 so you end up running those specific 3 over and over and over.

    I loved playing PvE in Destiny 1, doing playlist strikes over and over, it was fun and rewarding, because you could play with any weapon or class, but in Destiny 2 the only rewarding strike type is the one you need to try as hard as possible (GMs and Nightfalls), play extremelly carefully, using a very specific loudout (because Champions are there) and class, so its boring, stressfull and you are also OBLIGATED to do it cause there is no other good source of Ascendant Shards in the game.

      Destiny 1 is still kicking, my friend. I log in now and again and there's always people playing. You can pick up the whole game for $60 and get everything from start to finish, all strikes, missions, raids, everything, for one price, and it'll last until Bungie pulls the plug on the servers. Which they might not even be able to do since I've heard the first game has profits going to Activision, which is why it never goes on sale since the two split up. Personally, I think Destiny 1 is more clean than 2. Destiny 2 feels like there was a 3 in there somewhere they didn't make, right around Beyond Light, actually. 2 feels like it should have ended with Shadowkeep, teasing the pyramids and all that shit, then 3 boots up with us getting dark stasis powers to show off how things are different now.
      Anyway, tangent over, Destiny 1 still exists and it feels a lot different from 2. It's active and you can find all kinds of people still playing it, so it's worth picking up if you have the cash. Just be warned it'll definitely drag you away from Destiny 2 grind.

    I still miss being able to unlock "true forms" for raid armour in rise of iron as apposed to universal ornaments. It made raid armour feel special and stood out as far more unique, having incredible designs and effects unique to the armour and raid, while providing more replay value to raids beyond weapons in the form of tokens which allowed you to unlock the effects on this armour and while the armour effects were exclusive to the sets, the tokens used on the armour were applicable to ALL the raid armour regardless of which raid you earned them from. But above all, it felt like you were upgrading your armour's appearance rather than just changing it, and yea ik that feels like a small thing to prioritise, but it's important because it keeps the armours theme while still changing the armours appearance but also undeniably improving it.

      @@Sora623898 Yeah, I think we can actually divide Destiny at this point into three eras: D1, early D2, and New Light, which completely changed how new players enter into the game. But it did remove some drama to no longer have the game resting on the Red War storyline.

      D2 was close enough in this early stage to not be d1, but to feel like something else entirely. Sadly the devs didn't listen, and instead built off of the "something new entirely" ideal. This was until the vets started to see how broken it was becoming and the death of cayde gave us a reason to care again. My care for d2 is fading. Ever slowly. All of the people I played d1 with every day told me how much they hated it. Eventually those friendships burnt out. Sadly using those weird guns on those weird maps is what made the game worth playing, doing strikes, being rewarded for my time, or watching my friends get the weapon I wanted in real time in crucible all made me keep playing. In d2 that magic is lost or changed. I'm hoping that with the witch queen, some of this early magic returns, and that the witch queen brings more reason to build different friendships as the ones before have faded with my enjoyment for this game. I wish you luck guardian, and I hope you enjoy the years playing more than ever before. Eyes up! 💪👻

I paid $40 for the fucking expansion, what do you mean all of this lore is tucked behind an additional fee? I wouldn't mind it if all I was missing was some cosmetics and exotics, shit I could walk away from the game and pick up later, but knowing there's some cutscenes happening that "build on the story to the next big expansion" actually makes me regret getting back into Destiny 2. I bought the Legacy Pack, was really involved in Shadowkeep, then I go tossed into the mission to retrieve the Drifter's cargo, which led to a scene about chasing down pirates, but I couldn't find any more quest markers on that. So I looked it up and was *instantly pissed off* to find that storyline was trapped behind a paywall, and I could never ever access the previous installations. So now the game just randomly goes, "Oh, hey, Varisk on the frozen planet." Why's he there? What happened? Wasn't he with the queen in the reef? Oh, Bungie deleted that location and every quest tied to that, so I'll NEVER know why he's here and missing an arm unless I watch a two hour TH-cam video covering it all, at which point, why am I paying literally ANY money? I ain't doing two hour long raids with a clan, that's for damn sure.
