    I love how you “over explain” the build process. Most of us including myself have zero experience taking apart/ rebuilding an engine. My Jetta has a good amount of blow by so when it’s time for the engine to go bye bye I’m gonna rebuild one on the side using you’re vids

      Appreciate this brother! I wish a lot more creators were thorough with their builds, they’ve already done the research on how to do something, why not share that info right!

    For top rings… it might seem weird but place them into the groove, holding the ring beside the piston and then just gently lift the gap end that is facing the piston. Bring that end up across and around the top while rolling the ring around into the groove. It’s counterintuitive at first but then it almost falls into place like a magic trick. This old school trick helps to avoid scratching nice new pistons or stretching your rings too far.

    • @ThatGuyTyy
      @ThatGuyTyy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean ring orientation or as in end to end gap ? - factory end to end gap, not oversized (within spec for this build since the cylinders were only re honed) and then the orientation was ring 1 to drivers, ring 2 to passenger and control ring to rear of engine!

    • @JPMotorhead1993
      @JPMotorhead1993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatGuyTyy Ring end gap. Even if you don’t bore the block and use std size rings, the end gaps should be checked at minimum and opened up if needed using a ring filer.
      Just looking out for a fellow TDI enthusiast. I want this build to succeed.

    • @coreysnell9222
      @coreysnell9222 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JPMotorhead1993 he's using oem pistons, rings, and block. Should be no need to check ring gap unless the engine has been bored or has some crazy cylinder wear. Running more boost may require more ring gap tho

  • @b00sted4

    You want the wrist pin retainer opening to be at either 12 o’clock or 6 o’clock as the up and down motion of the piston can have so much force it can compress the retainer and have it pop out

    Can someone definitively say whether this engine shown is a CBEA or a CJAA?
    It looks just like my CBEA, in a few ways, but I'm in the middle of changing from CBEA to CJAA so I don't really know what im talking about.
    Doesn't the CJAA crank have teeth not a gear for the oil pump?
    Isn't the CBEA oil pump the one shown? (the big beefy one with the balancer shaft inside it)

    So... pretty much "stock" other than upgraded rods an head studs.. not much of a HP build. The weak point now is stock crank. An mains. Luv your vid.. too..Ty... what actually failed when u came off track?

    • @ThatGuyTyy
      @ThatGuyTyy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah weakest points of this engine are the head bolts mainly. The turbo (2872vrk) on the original engine is capable of 50psi and we’re only barely scratching 40psi right now, we’ll probably see just over 300hp with these before cams show up along with a ported head. Pretty easy to swap over once they show up too. We’re pretty sure the rods in the engine are bent and some other internal damage, we’ll pull it apart once we’ve swapped it over!

  • @terryh5496
    @terryh5496 ปีที่แล้ว

    terryh5496 If you just refitted the balance shaft assembly without fitting an uprated hex shaft oil pump drive, then you have a ticking time bomb on your hands. Just saying.
