The TDI probably runs more reliably than a 4.0 OHV Ranger in the winter. I had a 1997 4.0 SOHC Explorer. Whenever the weather got freezing. The plastic intake manifold and gaskets leaked. And the engine would start quick but it immediately rev up and bounce between 2000-3500 rpm. I had to just throw the automatic 5 speed in drive to avoid blowing the engine. 😃👍👏👏👏
That's badass!
I’m not ford guy but I like Volkswagen and seeing your truck and the hard work you put in it that’s amazing good job Dave
Man, if ford had sold a similar setup, they would've sold alot more. Nice build, personally I'm not a fan of the stack but it's a really nice ranger, it's coming from someone that never liked them. I would've lived to drive yours. I had a jetta tdi alh and was hands down my favorite car to drive that I've ever owned.
Damn I'd love to do this to my 94 Ranger. The 3.slow is very reliable, but man, is it unbearably slow. Maybe after my Volvo sbc motor swap is compete.
Hey man I’m in CO. As well! HMU I’d love to meet up with the rangers and talk about the swap. I’ve been trying to do this and yours is the cleanest I’ve seen. I have a 2014 Jetta TDI and a 1998 Ranger so I’ll be running two TDI vehicles when I get the Ranger done.
2:32 - so it's just from 150hp 1.9 TDi thats easly found in Seat Leon "Cupra" TDI, Audi A3, Golf Mk4, Skoda Octavia, Passat B5, A4 B5. I heard that some 130hp had same turbo. Also - If You want to have more horsepower and You run out of fuel injectors - get ones from 150hp and port them. They will be enough to 500hp easly. Turbo? Yeah, people are still finding bigger and bigger turbos to fit alongside this tiny whiny 1.9 block. Also - there is always not big enough turbo for 1.9 TDI PD :>
Are you still getting the 40+ mpg as we in the VW community get?
Probably 28-32 tops because of weight and drag
He mentioned it in the video. Around 40 hwy if he babies it. Around 30 city.
This thing gets 40mpg! On the highway!!!. My 2001 jeep Cherokee xj only gets 19mpg on the highway😔😔😔😔
If your state has emissions testing like mine, make sure your roller is old enough its emissions exempt. His would be perfect for my state as they stop testing vehicles 25 years and older
it get to -50C here in alberta canada and i dont have issues with diesel freezing! use some howes fuel treatment that makes ur diesel not freeze and gives the engine better lubrication. Zerostart coolant heater would also be a good idea! makes the TDI start like its a summer day no matter what the temp is! Awesome swap looking forward to doing one myself
Does anyone know if anyone has this in a Nissan frontier? Was thinking of slapping mine with a 4BT (military auction from an old forklift). Any feedback will be welcomed
What state is the truck registered in? In PA you can't swap a diesel into a gasoline vehicle any newer than 1995. I'm jealous. I want to put a kubota 2.3l in my 2007. Play with a compound turbos for economy, broader torqe curve and more power.
Dude Awesome man!! We should race!! Your Ranger TDI vs my Tacoma 2.8 duramax!!!
I just picked up a 2005 Ford ranger 2-wheel drive 3.0 automatic. What's the possibility of doing the swap but running the factory automatic transmission
I love parking in the middle of highways too.
Martinez Elizabeth Brown Robert Hernandez Thomas
I'm only a minute in and dude this ranger it's just straight up sick🤩
How did you mate up the engine to the transmission? I've found very little online about what I can mate to a TDI for rear wheel drive. I'm going to be putting a TDI in a '54 Fargo/Dodge d100!
A stack and a sun visor...mmmmk. not my thing, but I love the TDI swap.
I have a 1993 5spd ford ranger. I wanna do this swap for my son. Would you have a parts list of what all this took to accomplish
The visor fitment bugs me. It looks smaller than the Lund I put on my 03.
Should try to find a 4.5 Powerstoke and build it for a ranger. I’ve always wanted to if I ever have some play money.
