Love that you are still active on here, loved the “treat your logic with pure respect - I’m not even taking it off this time” *flips whole drive with board in it*. Got here since mine is making a grinding noise and not reading any discs.
Ok guys so you actually need a disc for it to work properly. It took me a while to realize that but yeah you need the disc so everything can work. And when he said it needs to be at the second spot if you turn it to the side you’ll see where the gear turns you’ll see like little sections it needs to be in the second one. The left gear wheel at the top needs to have the little rod that’s on the left side of it and the right top rod can’t hit or be over the black piece it has to slide in. The disc helps the magnet part actually register properly (I hope you understand because idk the specific names of them but yeah) it took me about a day or two to realize it. If you don’t get it try to figure how what does what exactly that’s how I got it
At minute 14:00 you can see why it didnt work at first, there is a small hole that must be in the right place with the piece that fits with the rollers in the side of the drive that make the move to suck and take the disc out. I know that cause I had to fix mine recently and I had the same problem. When you tried to fix it with the ps5 on you attached it at it did the trick. Just a small detail that I noticed but it's normal, it's not an easy fix nor an easy thing to mess with disc drives

I had no problems putting in the disc nor getting them out but the unit would not read the discs nor give me any errors. hey everyone. I recently got my new ps5! I'm super excited to have one, I have bought the ps5 disc edition. my first few days of having it was amazing! I got my favorite games on it and they ran perfectly! On the 5th day of having it, my first disc game arrived! it is the new AFL 23, since I'm Australian and a fan of AFL, my ps5 is booted up and running, I take out the disc from the cover, and I put the disc print facing left, as I heard on videos. the disc just does not go in, I thought most PS5s just suck up the disc and it's meant to work? I was talking to one of my mates that came to my house today, and he says there's foam blocking the way of the disc, which could be true but I do see the cut bit for the disc to go in, he said maybe they forgot to take it off in production, however, I took out the side panel and I could see they glued it down meaning it should stay there to protect the disc drive, ill send a picture of it. but when I boot up my ps5 and it makes the first noises, I'm able to put in the disc perfectly fine, however, my ps5 can't read the disc. A disc can be mildly forced into the disc, but it's not on far enough so it doesn't read. i have my ps5 in the Horizontal position but I tried vertical and that didn't fix anything either. im hoping this is a self fixable matter because i don't want to go to a shop to fix it. I hope I get a response that works as I'm eager to play the game. thanks and goodbye
20:00 disk was inserted the wrong way around that's why it didn't read , I have been trying to diagnose the issue where is starts to spin and stops then makes some noise and again keeps going on the loop. Any ideas ? 😊 Thanks for any information
Unrelated issue, but the center circular white thing (where the hole in the disc is) that seems to elevate just before the disc starts spinning is making some sort of scratching noise when I insert the disc. The noise only happens just before the disc starts spinning, then it stops. I haven't taken apart my ps5, so I can't pinpoint for sure the source of the noise, but judging by this video, the only possible source is that white circular center piece. @@fasttechvideo actually nah man and I was in like a shock I was trying to find places for the longest cause I wasn’t able to do it myself smh lol depression 😭
Ok. So mine will take a disc at start up. Won’t read it. Makes a noise like it might be trying to eject it after it spins it for a bit. It’s not loud or noisy when spinning at all. In fact you might say it’s unusually quiet? The spinning icon appears at the top center of screen. Hit eject and it ejects the disc. After that it will not accept any more discs.
So basically if I'm gonna avoid this issue if I'm not experienced enough I have to buy a new ps5 disc drive which is easy to install rather than taking apart to avoid the risk of breaking it?
Brand new PS5 here, won't read or even acknowledge a disc has been inserted.. Had every PS version there is and never had an issue with a disc drive until now..
@fasttechvideo it is mate, but it's annoying that such a fault can even occur on a brand new PS5.. and now the retailer cannot offer me a replacement as the same bundle is out of stock and they have no good deals for the same price on anymore. My little boy (who's gift it was) just wants to play his new disc game and can't. I've been on reddit and lots of people who bought the same bundle have the exact same issue..
@@rootyroot please check the model number on the console. Im guessing its a CFI-1200 series and based on your use of the word “mate” you are probably from the UK which should make it a CFI-1216. Is that correct?
I have a different issue it takes discs in and it makes a noise but then it will stop and it doesn’t spin it at all. I don’t know how to fix it it was just working yesterday with the same disc but it won’t spin any disc I put in it any way on how to fix it? And I checked and their doesn’t appear to have any debris inside
I just got my used ps5. It dosent allow me to put in a disk. But if pulled the plugged and back in after 30min it works. But if i Eject disc and ps5 spits it out and dosent hold it so i can grab it. And then i hear it "spinning" like it ejecting disc. Afterwards i cant put in a disc. Its "locked".
Does anyone have suggestions for if after reassembly of the disc drive, the rollers DON'T turn freely? All gears are slotted correctly and lubericated properly. If I press down on the moving bar that houses the rollers, THEN they'll spin freely. But when I let go, the gear on the left roller attaches the the other gears and it no longer spins freely...it hust wiggles a bit. Someone help.
yo, I'm having the same exact issue you showed where my discs aren't going into the drive completely. I took apart the disc drive and noticed the white gear is rigid/not smooth so it doesn't work correctly. Is there a fix for that?
@fasttechvideo The disk did go in. You had to push the eject button to get access to it. Putting it in upside down will do the very things you are describing. Not only that, the damage to the lasers Really? .
You ever seen the PS5 disk drive magnet that drops and come up get stuck causing the gears to grind? I don't play much and took it apart because it's OOW. I noticed during testing the magnet gets wedged causing it to grind. Obviously it should be smooth to pop up but I have to stick my finger under the lip it hits when the opposite side pushes it up.
@@fasttechvideo@fasttechvideo I found upin taking apart that one of the knobs on the plaatic track that moves popped out. Once I finagled it back into the notch it started working fine.
My goddamn disc drive struggles to even pull discs in like it stutters, maybe sometimes pulls it in but usually won't. Just started about a week ago and I have to manually remove discs with the manual eject screw. Edit: I can't take my ps5 all the way apart. I mean I COULD I do have sets of micro screwdrivers but I don't want to take it all the way apart and possibly screw something up. I know why I have this issue I just don't know how to fix it. I should really stop vaping because it's what's causing my ps5 problem. Just gotta get this system fixed first.
So my ps5 says games are "unrecognizable discs" i did all the sony steps wit safe mode restarts, rebuild database, factory resets etc etc... I put a dvd cleaner disc in to clean laser lens and that played no problem. Was able to go thru all the menus on the cleaner disc and ran it multiple times. But still wont read ps5 games and a ps4 game started installing but errored out halfway thru.. So plays dvds but not games and almost got a ps4 game to work. Ive read that the drives cant be swapped out for new ones. Cant i just get a new drive and use my existing logic board? Any help is appreciated. Im out of warranty time.
The dvd and blu ray head is separate on these systems. You might have to replace the laser lens or the disc drive. We do stock these parts on our site at fasttechstore.com
Lol I remember realigning the disk drive on my fat ps2 when it wouldn't read the blue disks it was definitely a lot easier to get to and cheaper to replace of I messed up
I got an issue where my PS5 doesn't play blu Ray discs, it gets stuck on a black screen with a loading bar and it makes loud noises, discs are clean and PS4/PS5 discs work just fine with it, anyone experienced this and know the cause?
For my PS5 if you restart it the disk goes in fine but if you take it out it makes a sound as if you keep taking out the disk like rollers and once it comes out it won’t go in until you restart it and I don’t know how to fix it
Any thoughts on mine? So i have mine horizontal with disc drive on bottom and when i put in a disc it struggles and gets stuck but ejects. When i tilt console to other side with disc drive on top it read the disc fine? Thats the issue?
@@fasttechvideo thing is i bought this ps5 used and for cheap so i dove in to get it fixed. Apparently when i play ps5 games it shuts down but plays ps4 game no prob i assumed it was psu and opened it up amd saw burnt or corroded. I checked all internals even the disc drive mount and inside the dic drive itsel. I used canned air amd 91 iso alchohol to clean it. Not sure what it might be ...maybe misalignment?
Tried following this guide, I seem to have all the parts in place but still no luck. It's almost as if the drive has no power, but when I boot the system on I can see the drive make a small adjustment
My ps5 reads and accepts disks no problem but does a clicking noise when I try to eject and it won’t eject unless I tap the bottom of the ps5 with my hand l. Do you think this can help with that?
Is it true sony will ip ban your ps5 if put a replacement drive from another ps5 in your system..mine is broke and i have no warranty so i think im screwed unless i can fix mine myself
No they will not ban your PS5 and it wouldn't even be possible for them to know you switched your disc drive as long as your retain and install your old disc drive's logic board and install it into the new disc drive as I mentioned in this video. This is an essential step for the disc drive to be read.
my ps5 is not reading discs. Is there an applicable drive cleaning disc that will work on a PS5, that I can use to clean it to see if takes care of the problem before sending it in for repair?
anyone knpw the solution to the lastest update since as it came out my disc drive wont stop trying to eject discs every 15-20 seconds and it wont stop. ive hard reset my ps5, updated to latest software update and idk what to do.
@@fasttechvideohey sorry for the late reply, I figured it out. I put one of the cables that connect from the motherboard to the disc drive flipped the opposite way and it fixed, weird haha.
So you went through all that to say nobody try it because without experience you’ll blow it up? How we supposed to know it’s functional before putting the million screws back in?
I said don't try to run the drive with the system open the way I did if you don't know what you are doing. These videos are free so use them or don't it's your choice. Thanks for your comment.
@@fasttechvideo ive tried everything, once the disc is ejected it doesn't accept it again, to accept a disc i have to restart the ps5, and it doesn't even read the disc once inserted, and another strange issue is that it works only on 1080p video output, if i switch it to automatic or 4k it boot-loops
Respect for the video but isn’t that far to much effort to just try and get a disc to work why couldn’t they house the disk drive above all those unnecessary unscrewing

@@MrProfchaos71 you need to replace the laser. Check out one of my newer videos on this issue
If its brand new it should be covered under warranty by Sony
@fasttechvideo it is mate, but it's annoying that such a fault can even occur on a brand new PS5.. and now the retailer cannot offer me a replacement as the same bundle is out of stock and they have no good deals for the same price on anymore. My little boy (who's gift it was) just wants to play his new disc game and can't. I've been on reddit and lots of people who bought the same bundle have the exact same issue..
@@rootyroot which bundle is it?
@@fasttechvideo the MW3 bundle
@@rootyroot please check the model number on the console. Im guessing its a CFI-1200 series and based on your use of the word “mate” you are probably from the UK which should make it a CFI-1216. Is that correct?
You put the disk in upside down.
Do y’all sell ps5 digital motherboards because my broke due to water damage?
Yes we do: www.fasttech.ca/playstation-5-1/playstation-5-digital-edition-motherboard-edm-010
Man, thank you so much! I fixed it !!!!!!!!!!

I need help, when i open the disc and test it it works. But when i put everything back it wont!!!! What am i doing wrong???
You might be putting the disc upside down
I just got my used ps5.
@@frantz3n341 check the gears
Does anyone have suggestions for if after reassembly of the disc drive, the rollers DON'T turn freely? All gears are slotted correctly and lubericated properly. If I press down on the moving bar that houses the rollers, THEN they'll spin freely. But when I let go, the gear on the left roller attaches the the other gears and it no longer spins freely...it hust wiggles a bit. Someone help.
It’s misaligned
Do you know why my disc drive won’t taking disc?it is making beep noise when eject button is pressed but not taking disc 🥲
Problem with disc drive logic board or ribbon cables could be disconnected.
Wish I would of seen this video before I took mine apart,,might of broke the bit the ribbon goes in,,also think my drive might be broke
Sorry to hear that
yo, I'm having the same exact issue you showed where my discs aren't going into the drive completely. I took apart the disc drive and noticed the white gear is rigid/not smooth so it doesn't work correctly. Is there a fix for that?
Watch my more detailed updated video
First thing you did was wrong, you inserted the disk the wrong way jezze
Yes I know. The disc drive was not accepting discs at all so I only wanted to show that it doesn't even go in.
@fasttechvideo The disk did go in. You had to push the eject button to get access to it. Putting it in upside down will do the very things you are describing. Not only that, the damage to the lasers
Really?
Alignment issue
If its already screwed no harm disassembling it. Just be careful with the logic board
Lol I remember realigning the disk drive on my fat ps2 when it wouldn't read the blue disks it was definitely a lot easier to get to and cheaper to replace of I messed up
Indeed. The ps2 is child’s play compared to this
I got an issue where my PS5 doesn't play blu Ray discs, it gets stuck on a black screen with a loading bar and it makes loud noises, discs are clean and PS4/PS5 discs work just fine with it, anyone experienced this and know the cause?
Could be a bad laser. By Blu-Ray do you mean movies? I ask because even game discs are on Blu-Ray
You put the disc in upside down in the intro 😝
For my PS5 if you restart it the disk goes in fine but if you take it out it makes a sound as if you keep taking out the disk like rollers and once it comes out it won’t go in until you restart it and I don’t know how to fix it
im having the same exact problem. did you get it fixed? ps5 slim here
@@hebertkostan2565 No I haven’t idk how but it fixed it self after a while
Nice fix bro.
Thanks. Like the video and subscribe
Any thoughts on mine? So i have mine horizontal with disc drive on bottom and when i put in a disc it struggles and gets stuck but ejects. When i tilt console to other side with disc drive on top it read the disc fine? Thats the issue?
Try cleaning it out with alcohol and check the alignment of gears using this video as a reference.
Did you ever fix it?
@@camm4694nope. Digital only ps5 now.
I guess my disc drive wont accept a disc without power huh ? Thanks for the video
My ps5 reads and accepts disks no problem but does a clicking noise when I try to eject and it won’t eject unless I tap the bottom of the ps5 with my hand l. Do you think this can help with that?
Yes
Dont understand how your ps5 is on still if you took it apart i did everything you did step by step
I dont understand your question
1:27 you put the disk in with the wrong side?!
Yes but that was to show that it doesn’t properly accept the disc

You can try a lens cleaning disc but i doubt it will work

Check to see if liquid spilled in your eject button
@@fasttechvideohey sorry for the late reply, I figured it out. I put one of the cables that connect from the motherboard to the disc drive flipped the opposite way and it fixed, weird haha.
If the ribbon cables don’t have the locks is it not fixable ?
Yes you can stick a card in there on top of the cable and it will work
I noticed I’m having a weird vibration noise coming from my disc drive
You still having this issue? Sorry about the late reply
Hello I know I'm late but my ps5 has been reading discs really slow is their anything I can do to fix it before it gets even worse
Can you please elaborate on that? What do you mean by reading slow? Are the install times longer than usual?
When I put the disc into the console it's taking ages to fully insert into the console
Same problem here. Ps5 takes disc real slow but reads them fine. Any fix?
Clean the rollers
I lotwrally just bought this console and it will take a disk, not read it at all, then spew it out and refuse to accept any other disks
If your ps5 is brand new you should be covered under warranty
So you went through all that to say nobody try it because without experience you’ll blow it up? How we supposed to know it’s functional before putting the million screws back in?
I said don't try to run the drive with the system open the way I did if you don't know what you are doing. These videos are free so use them or don't it's your choice. Thanks for your comment.
Bro @1:28 you inserted the disc upside down lol
I know haha. Was just trying to show the problem where it doesn’t accept and keeps making that noise
If not reading the disc
My PS5 doesn’t to take in the disc when I put it in, any help?
If you tried everything in this video it could be a dead logic board (disc drive)
is your ps5 accepting a disc when you power it on or reset the ps5 and after ejecting it doesn't accept a disc?
@@ndragos87 sounds like an alignment issue
@@fasttechvideo ive tried everything, once the disc is ejected it doesn't accept it again, to accept a disc i have to restart the ps5, and it doesn't even read the disc once inserted, and another strange issue is that it works only on 1080p video output, if i switch it to automatic or 4k it boot-loops

Yes I know. I was trying to show that the disc does not fully go in and simply makes a noise.

Yes indeed that was not the correct orientation but I was demonstrating that the disc drive makes noises
Respect for the video but isn’t that far to much effort to just try and get a disc to work why couldn’t they house the disk drive above all those unnecessary unscrewing

Yes you are right but the disc reader makes noises which is what I was trying to show that the disc doesnt spin properly. Thanks for your comment.
