Seeing all these aftermarket games in their boxes, all piled next to each other, really drives home the fact that the Mega Drive is still very much alive in the 2020's. There's some absolutely amazing games too... And this makes me a very happy man! Quality video Mike, cheers!
Apparently it’s very popular console in Brasil, and they are still being manufactured in that region to this day! Great news. I love both the SEGA Mega Drive and Dreamcast! (I just bought both consoles this year)

Perfect video for a Sunday, thank you! And seriously, why does the Megadrive have such an amazing indie community? Other consoles have their indie developers too, but it looks like the Megadrive has the biggest indie scene right now.
I would say programming for any games system, isn't that easy, but people are picking up on the MEGA DRIVE and GENESIS programming a lot more and then other systems The retro aspect gets these developers into the mood.
I’ve been waiting for you to make this video. It didn’t disappoint! Wow 200 plus release’s since the console officially ended. That’s amazing! No other console can compare! Thanks Mike 😊

That's a pretty nice collection. Strictly Limited really helps with their rereleases of older titles or games that never came out. Due to the size of the game NeoFid had to create their own chipset called the Neodrive which currently maxes out at 120megs if I'm not mistaken. warning to anyone interested in collecting older (out of print) indie/homebrew physical releases: there are a LOT of fakes of the more expensive original homebrews floating around and you need to know what you are looking at before spending money on a "fake homebrew". Prime example is @24:45 Mega Cheryls Perils. Developed by Mojon Twins and published by 1985 Alternativo, this is very rare with an alledged print run of less than 100 (some say under 50) legit copies produced. Some fantastic stuff there. I'm gutted I wasn't in a position to get the early retrobit releases due to finances. The toaplan, Gairies, Gleylancer ones I missed out on. Fun thing with Sol Deace. Sol Feace released worldwide on the MegaCD but the US version used some SFX generated by the Megadrive internal sound chip instead of the CD like Japan and PAL but then the US got Sol Deace for the Genesis which none of the rest of us got originally. Such an odd duck. 😂 Love Kai Mag Softwares games and other random ones like Cursed Knight, Xenocrisis and Tanglewood were awesome! I still love that Golden Axe 3 custom. May need to get something like that myself.
I wish more companies would do what Retrobit is doing. Buying old games can be fun, but sometimes they just seem so fragile to me. I always worry they are going to break lol. Especially SNES games, which seem little sturdy than Genesis carts.
Great video Mike and I'm with you. There are lots of good "new" Genesis/Mega Drive games but if you HAD to choose only one, there is only one answer, XENOCRISIS!!! I'm almost a little disappointed you're not wearing the Xenocrisis t shirt. :-) though I'm a little surprised you don't have a copy of Tanzer from Megacat. If I had to pick a second that would be at the top of the list.
One thing these homebrew games show is the lack of uniform branding. The inlays do nothing to make me want to buy them. Kai Magazine are the only ones who seem close to getting it on brand but the lack of branding is certainly also a Sega issue. It really lets down the overall package of these games. By the way I do own a repro of Golden Axe III and it's really cool to have. 👍
Tanzer is a very impressive indy games too on md. Not for the graphics, but the musics are outstanding and the gameplay is one of the more precise and nervous i ever played😮 One of the developpers is a developper of Zpf as well
sometimes i wonder why there's no compagny who try to create a new 16 bits console with only exclusive game on it like they could launch the console with 10 games and release more after i think it would work like each time we heard about a new retro console it fail because they don't announce any exclusive game on it
While it is cool to get so many aftermarket games, I think most aren't that great to play. They hardly ever get critically reviewed. So mostly, they are more of a wanna have than a must play. There are exceptions though, like Demons of Asteborg or Xenocrisis. Chip's Challenge is a Lynx game by the way.
Can I ask a question that might be a bit stupid. In your retro-bit section you have a number of MD carts I ordered from limited run. I’m yet to receive them, surprise surprise. Are they distributing retro-bit stuff or are both companies making the same re-releases? Also, thanks for introducing me to a few companies I wasn’t aware of 👍
So Retro-bit make them and then Limited Run distribute. The team send through sample copies to me so that I can show you guys what you'll be getting. I think the samples tend to be the ones not good enough to sell.😂
When you say you will make a manual for the game , do you have somewhere you know that has all the art work to print out or something? I have a bunch of games I'd like to ge the manuals for

Also did you not pre-order Legends of Wukong? 😛Also for others reading this comment, a load of these games are also available to be purchased either as ROMs on itch or from Steam.
All these new games are really for collectors. The MD is a good starting point for a level of technological complexity but owning a cart is pretty pointless unless someone decides they need to wage war on roms.
But no-one could be so short sighted as to attempt to remove the source of interest in games which are already made and 30 years old. But a new market is not well served by a sub standard product. Especially at full price, to anyone who isn't interested in owning small vacuum formed bit of black plastic.
I'm just sad I missed so many of these games. Could you provide links to the games we can still get? I know alot of them are kickstarters only. I only just found out about Eliminate down today....... damn.

The short answer is, a lot of people never got the cart that they paid for and he never released the steam version. Some people that got the game(Gamesack got one) the cart fell apart. There's been multiple Kickstarters and now there's a class action lawsuit in the works in France(where the dev is from).
Trust me, Magic Pockets is the opposite of fun. Once you get past the novelty of Betty Boo playing on the title screen, you'll be met with by far Bitmap Brothers worst game. Not sure why anyone would think it deserved a megadrive port 30yrs after the fact...
I'm not an expert on this. But I heard that due to the color limitions back in the day ports from system to system were usually complicated. The Atari ST, Amiga and Mega Drive were special because they could be build on top of each other. A port from the ST to the Amiga was in terms of visuals a piece of cake. The same goes for when you port a game from the Amiga to the Mega Drive since the mega drive can portrait the same colors as the Amiga. Just more of it. I believe the ST was 16 colors on screen at once and the Amiga was 32 and the Mega Drive 64. I'm asuming this was ported because the source code was still around and sometimes programmers have to much freetime. So they look for a project.
@@EoR_2B4GOT10 Megadrive, Amiga and Atari ST all shared 68000 as the CPU at similar speeds, so the game logic (assembly code) could all be straight copied pretty much. The graphics and sound were different on all the machines though, resolution and colour-depth etc. that's where all the actual porting happened. I'd imagine most software houses abstracted out the graphics/sound calls to libraries to make porting easier. I was more commenting on why port a shit game from 30yrs ago rather than a good one 😂
Hi Mike, we all here can see the pain when you talk about PAPRIUM.....!!!! Right now on eBay the price is just unbelievable. Watermelon have a reputation that all of us hate, but when you play their games we forgive everyone involved. Hope one day you receive your copy and we want a long vide about it.All this new games for Megadrive is what make this incredible console still alive. There's a possibility of Mega Final Fight be published by Capcom. If this happens will be a game change. And other big developers star realise game for our lovely console will be just amazing. Image SEGA get involved....new Sonic Mania for Megadrive...we are here waiting... great video... thanks for all...
Of the 40 I got 3 free. All the others I bought. I've been offered free copies but I like to buy them and support the scene. And where I have bought one and been given one for free I donate the free copy to my daughter's school and they make it part of their school raffle.
Chips challenge is an Atari ST port. Just like Magic Pockets, Switchblade,International Karate, Rick Dangerous and one other ugly game they ported on Megadrive. Its easy to port them on Megadrive because of the 68000 same cpu and because of Atari St lacking hardware accelator chips (unlike Amiga), so the translation is a piece of cake.
There's a class action lawsuit in the works. Time Extension made a post about it a while back. Dude doesn't deserve to keep your money and people really need to stop defending this guy.
Simply wonderful Genesis for all the legacy that we have kept intact today with the current consoles. It's wonderful to see a 16-bit console still very present today. I'm sure Sega will be very pround of it.. I'm sure Sega would never have imagined it, but the fact is done. 🫶🏼🕹️👊🏼

Why not do a New Disney and Tintin games for Mega Drive???

Does anyone have ANY information on Paprium at all? How does the most anticipated Genesis game just DISAPPEAR?
That game was a mess.
@@Troll_Ha how so? It's done. It can be played; but I can't buy it. What the hell
@@fgajtani The devs behind the game were shady.
@@Troll_Ha are you saying the game ISN'T actually finished?
@@fgajtani There are multiple videos on the subject of Paprium and the guy behind it.
I quit enjoyed it. Reminded me of those middle of the road Amiga games.
Babushka dolls
And you had those games for free?? ...
Of the 40 I got 3 free. All the others I bought. I've been offered free copies but I like to buy them and support the scene. And where I have bought one and been given one for free I donate the free copy to my daughter's school and they make it part of their school raffle.
@@RetroGamerBoy 40 games is a lot of money dude
Stop crying about it.
@@Segas.Revenge crying about what?? Lies?? U r a joke dude
The MegaGen rules the after market game's scene, while the super gaytendo is in the gutter 😄
😂

Chips challenge is an Atari ST port. Just like Magic Pockets, Switchblade,International Karate, Rick Dangerous and one other ugly game they ported on Megadrive.
Its easy to port them on Megadrive because of the 68000 same cpu and because of Atari St lacking hardware accelator chips (unlike Amiga), so the translation is a piece of cake.
What PSCD does, is not mere porting.
It's full-on reprogramming.
Yup 👍
Eday is terrible experience for buying megadrive games naver buy from there
It's a resellers site basically.
True but where else can you buy them from ?
Thats a lot of retro games. Do you actually play any of that shit? lol
Todaj i got my sega mega drive II Lion king edition , im so happy
I wasted 1800USD on paprium Kickstarter😢 . Damn the Fonz
There's a class action lawsuit in the works. Time Extension made a post about it a while back. Dude doesn't deserve to keep your money and people really need to stop defending this guy.
@@hexapusinkI don't have social media. Do you have any info on how I can become involved in this ? . I'm done with it
I'm £500 deep. The guy is a disgrace to the industry.
Simply wonderful Genesis for all the legacy that we have kept intact today with the current consoles. It's wonderful to see a 16-bit console still very present today. I'm sure Sega will be very pround of it.. I'm sure Sega would never have imagined it, but the fact is done. 🫶🏼🕹️👊🏼
