    * A ROC fits fine inside the cargo bed of the Nomad, which makes it great for ROC mining.
    * With its hovering type of landing gear, it has no problems with landing just about ANYWHERE.
    * Great ship interiors are the biggest draw for me to buy a ship, I LOVE space RVs (Think Spaceballs). 🤣
    * If you keep forward motion with your wheels, ground vehicles will always right themselves. That is how FPS groups (orgs) do vehicle inserts. They drop the vehicle just inside the atmosphere and let them fall to the planet/moon. As long as you keep forward motion going, when you hit the ground, the vehicle will land upright.

About the space RV thing, yes, this 'space truck''s interior is a lot like an airstream trailer, with a real kitchen and a comfort bed and a toilet isn't so industrial-theme but rather residential theme. Great ship, nomad and hull-a are both great starter ship.

Nomad has a tractor beam mount (utility mount for whatever else goes in there) which can be important some day. After the 315p, it is the smallest ship with a tractor which is pretty important for maximizing utility on a Liberator. Moving bags from a prospector to an Expanse for refining or directly to the Lib cargo hold gives it a lot of utility for Liberator-focused mining fleets. Plus, it is ok for fighting when compared to the 315p. The 315 has better scanners though so it is a tradeoff
It honestly is tied for me with the titan in terms of overall utility. It has improved quant fuel capacity too which is rare on small ships; this is limited to the Eclipse, Pisces, and Defender for s1 quantum drives. It handles well too at least out of atmo and handles adequately in atmo as well for the moment

I love my Nomad, and you are technically right regarding the shield of small ships with small shields. But my Terrapin has two medium shields 🛡 and is a small ship also. In addition to its heavy armor (whenever that arrives...), the Terrapin is a beefy small ship.

  • @wafflesinsanity

    THANK YOU OLLI
The Nomad is incredibly underrated as a ship. While the weapons capacitor is not the BEST at 3500 but its decent enough with 3s1 shields, 3s3 weapons, and all the emnities one would need. Some things you missed: the components are all on the ceiling of the ship, and there are two weapon racks at the ladder on the interior. Barely noticable.
While I still think the Tana is vastly superior as a sub 100$ starting ship, the Nomad takes a very close second. The ease of use of the rear cargo bay is substantially useful, you can use this for delivery missions and collecting bodies with ZERO risk of someone stealing the ship. (Even the ladder down doesnt allow for stow aways) you also missed the chair in the dining space... Maybe
You can also load the rear with something like the Cyclone MT and have a turretter in the rear lol.
Also for fun, the landing gear has some unique properties. If you are coming in hot, you can put out the landing gear and bounce off the ground. I have successfully hit thr ground at 700m/s and not blown up when landing feet first.

he forgot to mention the two-gun racks at top of the ladder in the ship so you can store ur guns, also while in the living space you have three shield generators above ur head so you can repair them from the inside, also the nomad will come with a size one tractor beam located in the rear in the cargo area.

I've been singing the praises of the Nomad since day one. Saw the IAE spotlight on it and thought it was just such a unique little ship, I upgraded my Aurora starter pack to it the first day. It's been my daily driver since then, and once I have my Endeavor, there will be a permanent home in it's hangar for this, my little runabout. For it's size, it has decent cargo space, the ship tractor beam will make load and unload a breeze, and while not a military dogfighter, it certainly holds its own. And for the blatant 'Zero Fs Given' attitude it has, I call mine 'Badger'.

    • @CyberneticArgumentCreator
      @CyberneticArgumentCreator 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah it's the best ship cheaper than a cutlass which can hold a few different ground vehicles while also having walkaround room inside for carrying multiple people and has bed/food/storage boxes checked. It was my first ship, my pledge with LTI, and I upgraded it later for a Cutlass black with the Best In Show promotion to migrate the LTI etc to the Cutlass for long term play in the future.
This will probably be my solo play ship I'll earn in-game many years from now when SC is a game. Cheap to fly, you can bring a few buddies with you in it, you can bring a ground vehicle in it, and you can log out in it.

Nomad is my starter ship. It is pretty versatile for making money early on. It can land anywhere, you can do delivery missions thanks to internal storage space, it's not too bulky to land with it near bunkers for those missions, once some cargo hauling missions are added, you'll have some capacity for that, it can fit ROC in the back and it can do quite decently in lower-risk bounty missions, although this depends on pilot's skills a lot.
There's a bug where you cannot rearm fired missiles, though. It is annoying as hell.

00:01:55 that's a depth perception problem arising from limitations of 3D representations on a 2D screen. The ship is higher than it looks and, by extension, further back. The frame at that time shows the ship landing in what appears to be a hangar of about the right sized for the ship when the hangar in question is a few times larger than that. The eye locks in to the "just right" thing and that's how the altitude is underestimated and, with it, the actual distance from the Hangar centre point. I'm not sure how to fix the breakdown in communication between the screen and the eye but this is where I think that navigation lights would be a useful in-game tool.

Nomad is one of my favorites especially when using the ROC miner. Granted it can't fit the bigger one but if I'm just using the small one it is so much more nimble than using a Connie or MSR to fly around the Aberdeen or whatever planet/moon you choose. Only issue I've found is on higher gravity planets it likes to pull down so I usually stick to moons.

1:56 Ah yes, my signature landing move - glad to see its catching on! This happens to me so often in those top-down style hangars even after years of SC. For some reason I always undershoot it. I think it's the perspective really throws me off, looks like you're a lot closer than you actually are until you're almost touching the opening. I have the same issue in E:D lol
Nice save though, the number of times I've clipped the back end of my ship, or just straight up slammed down in front of the hangar nowhere near the actual door. If I end up upside-down inside the hangar like that, there's a good 80% chance that mine and my ship's demise is rapidly approaching 😅

So basically to put another ship into another ship. Will be a function of your mobiglass or hangar. They currently have the tech to do it, but they need to calculate the metrics of all ships to fit into a cargo grid. They also have to create a way to tell the system which ships can carry other ships, so that you don't put ships into grids of ships without proper facilities. With so many ships already in the game, that may take some time to come to fruition. Chris Roberts himself helped to code the physics grids so vehicles can park on it. My Starter Package is the Nomad. It got introduced during the IAE 2950 and I got it directly with LTI.
    I love this ship.
However, the Avenger can carry a vehicle. It has room for the Greycat PTV, as well as for the CNOU Hoverquad. It might even be able to carry the DRAKE Dragonfly, though I'd need someone who has the Avenger to actually confirm if this is true.
The Nomad has a shield generator more than the Avenger though, as well as a bigger fuel tank. It's not quite as manouverable, but you could still mount 3 S3 weapons instead of the gimballed versions and be able to engage most enemies quite easily. I do believe that it should have bigger capacitors than it currently has though. I've done BH missions up to MRTs with it without any issue, particularly since the 3 shield generators make it quite defensible. Basically, you won't do as well applying your shots to the enemy, but you'll likely be able to survive most encounters.
And it has a lot of more room of course. It can carry up to a Greycat ROC or a Tumbril Cyclone. And if you carry a Cyclone, you can also use it as a mini-dropship dropping 3 people teams including the vehicle into a landing zone, and due to the 3 shields, you'll likely even survive this drop action.

You should try out the Constellation Taurus, it has a small cargo area in the back you can hide 'illegal' goods and they can't be scanned. I own one and didn't know that under after, I just wanted the constellation.... It can also fit way more stuff. Very underrated.

In lore, it is because of a tractor beam that nothing fly away from the cargo bay, and it will be officially added to the ship in the update 3.18, which will make that tractor beam available to quickly put cargo down.

The Nomad was specifically designed for ROC mining. It will not fit the ROC-DS but the regular ROC fits fine. You can also switch out the 3 badgers on gimbals for 3 Panthers without gimbals. Not an exceptional fighter craft but it can definitely hold it's own with a decent pilot.

The Nomad has 3 shield generators. I use 2 FR-66's and a Palisade, as the FR's are the go-to military grade shield and the Palisade has significantly better ballistic damage negation.
In future patches when we are able to properly position our shields and re-route power to different shield generators, I plan to utilize the Palisade a bit more. Currently, I believe it just averages your stats across the whole ship's shields.

Finally my Nomad :D It's best ship for ROC mining - seriously. Some player now will be mad and put their own "best", but please first go for week test run, master Nomad ROC mining, and then we can argue. Pro is small size, better atmo handling (for me - personal) and best scanning ground capabilities: Cutty haven't ground view, Frellancer too, and other ships are too big for aberdeen "forrest". One thing: upgrade power plant and cooler when U want mining on aberdeen ;) Nomad very like overheating.

And while it ain't my Starter Pledge (that was the Aurora MR) the C.O.Nomad was gifted to me, and is a ship I use more than most.

I got a loaner Nomad with my Kore. Love the Kore, not a huge fan of Nomad. Don't land the Nomad in wind. I chased it for 2km till it fell over a bluff and out of the wind. Hover gear and wind don't mix. I could see it being useful for starter mining or for transport between close locations where speed counts, because of easy access to cargo. Might make a great cargo ferry for a larger vessel.

I have a Nomad as a loaner ship in a hanger of 27 ships. I hardly ever use it except as a taxi ship. I much prefer my Cutlass Black or Freelancer DUR as slightly bigger much more capable ships. Most important thing for my cargo needs is a fully enclosed, pressurized cargo compartment. Somehow, an open cargo bed with no way of tying down big cargo = lost cargo.

For some reason on this particular ship, the doors don't trigger well.

Nomad was my starter ship, It's a solid ship for daily driving. It's cheap to operate, has 3x s3 hardpoints, 3x small shield gens, you can put a ROC, Cyclone, or Mule in the back... Dragonfly fits and stays... but awkwardly... you can pick-up unknown players and just tell them to go prone in the cargo bed so you don't have to worry about getting shot in the head by dickwads... you can access the ship inventory from the external bed... The utility that the Nomad offfers at it's size is second to none IMHO. It lands like crap.. usually smacks the panther on the ground but other than that... i have no complaints. It is a permanent part of my fleet... OH.. 40 second claim time too
