    I think it's an international law that very quick emergency number, like 911 or 999 or 000 automatically gets routed to the local equivalent, so as not to confuse visitors from other countries who might need to call and don't know the exact local number.

    • @MsVilecat
      @MsVilecat 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      In France we decided to make things extremely complicated for absolutely no reason.
      15 = medical emergency
      17 = police
      18 = firefighters
      And guess what? If you call the medical emergency service, 9 times out of 10 they'll send you firefighters to bring you to the hospital. So most of the times people just dial 18 to directly call them... 😂
      But you also can call 112, which works in all Europe. It will reroute you to the the emergency service of the country you're in. It's very convenient if you're traveling, that way you don't have to memorize the numbers for each country you're visiting.
      That being said, someone dialing 911 in France will be put in contact with the local emergency services, and I'm fairly certain that it's the same in many European countries. Which makes you wonder why there are so many different numbers. Just choose a universal one an let's go with it!

    • @EduardoEscarez
      @EduardoEscarez 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      There isn't a law. Here in Chile every service has its own number 131 for ambulances, 132 for bomberos (firefighters), 133 for Carabineros (national police), 134 for PDI (civil national police).
      But people start to call so often to 911 due to American media, mobile companies decide to route those to Carabineros, mostly because they can request help from other services and have faster reaction times for some emergencies.

      Inevitably those names were shortened as student at Oxford started to refer to those two as rugger and assoccer. Those nicknames ultimately changed again and turned into rugby and soccer.
      Meanwhile in the US a sport called "gridion football"(now known as american football), which used rules from both rugby and football, proved way more popular hence why for our football, they took on the name soccer.
