    Great video. Been looking to buying a m140. Already got a bmw 118d. Mapped and I love it. But could be time to spoil myself. Had passing in the family and you only live once.

      Sorry to hear that, best wishes to you. If you are in a position to spoil yourself then go for it if it doesn’t cost you a good night sleep! The m140 is a fantastic car! I’d recommend giving one a try 😉 Thanks for watching and for the comments. Chin up and best of luck my friend 🙏

    Good review 👍 had mine nearly 5 years and i have never owned a car anywhere as long as this. It just does everything so well. M2c next but in no rush because I still love my m140i.

    Ive had my F22 M240i for 5 years, got bilstein shocks, lowering springs, powerflex bushes and its stage 2+. Pretty much the sweet spot for this car IMO. Id love an M2 Comp but some would argue the 40is are better dailys

      Yeh nice mods there pal! Its a tough one, I think you really need to WANT an M car to justify the extra money for just a daily, unless money isn't really a problem of course! I think the M2 is actually nicer to drive daily than a standard M140 in manual as the suspension is so much better, the ZF in the 140 is much smoother than the DCT for daily, but its all about budget and purpose really isn't it. M2's are far more able and fun to throw round, but if it rarely sees that sort of action then you may have been better off saving the money and getting the M140. Money no object....I'd have the M2 😁

    Nice video Greg. All valid points, I have owned an M135i LCI for 2 years. Love it when I'm driving it, then after a few weeks of not driving it the mind wanders to A45S, M2, RS3, 911 etc but it is a great car. I think a lot of the lack in handling confidence is down to the electronic steering, I had a fault on mine about 6 months ago that led to practically no power steering, it got progressively worse until it was un-drivable but at the beginning it got really firm and I felt like I could chuck it around any corner at any speed - much firmer than just sports mode. £700 later it's back to normal and gives the feedback of a shopping trolley.

    • @GregandCraigsGarage
      @GregandCraigsGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey thanks for watching man, appreciate the support! I agree, I think the steering feels very "electronic" therefore disconnected from the car, but the chassis is very soft and wavy, the suspension is bouncy and vague which is what holds it back from that dynamic feel, then again, stiffen it up too much and its difficult to drive everyday effortlessly. Things like the RS3, M cars, A45s and 911 are just waaayyy more money and compare to each other more so than the M140 itself. I do think the M135i and M140i demonstrate great value and tunability, they have their drawbacks sure, but to have to compare them to things like the RS3 for almost twice the money does show how good they are for what they are. Thanks so much again for watching pal, your feedback is priceless! Enjoy that N55 man!

      @@GregandCraigsGarage Yep value for money / bhp for money / speed for money they cannot be beat and build quality is way above the other hot hatches. Can't make up my mind whether to stick bilsteins and LSD on or get rid tbh... Not that either options are quite inline with the current state of affairs in this country right now... great content thanks man, I will check the rest of your content, just came to me because of the car and the algorythm, I guess. Right now I'm in N55 heaven until it turns to hell lol, B58 seems a good place to be :)

      @@J4Z666 100% agree there! Ooh thats a tough one, if I was keeping my M140 for the foreseeable I may have done exactly what you mention as a lot of people do. I was advised to maybe start with a rear handling pack to tighten the rear up, but its one of those, if money is a thing, which it is for me and most of us for the moment, then if it doesn't NEED it for you to be happy with the car then, just let it be? Cant really answer that though man. Im glad you enjoyed the video and thanks again for the support, the channel is young so the hope is the content will get more frequent and better! Keep enjoying pal! Stay happy! 👍

    One of the best reviews I’ve seen on the M140. Sums it up nicely. Chassis and handling is the achillies heal of these cars and you need to be aware of that with the power. Done Bilstein B8 dampers, MMR springs, LSD and polyflex inserts and it’s still seriously lacking on a proper M car. That said it’s a massive improvement over stock and a much better daily.
    The B58 is an incredible engine (Toyota picked it for the Supra) and the tunability is insane - there are 1000+ bhp builds and you can get C.480bhp from minimal mods and a off the shelf map safely 🤯.
    BTW the shadow edition came with orbit grey wheels (not black) yours have been painted.

    • @GregandCraigsGarage
      @GregandCraigsGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey man, thanks for the feedback really appreciate it! Thank you also for your correction, your are right, the Gloss Black Alloys came on the normal shadows the M140 indeed has grey wheels (I cant remember if you can opt for the black from factory) and I forgot to mention Sun protection glazing is standard too! Some lovely mods there and a massive difference I can imagine, but agree completely - it still doesn't touch the M cars. We may do another video on tuning but just didn't want this video to drag on so we had to try and be concise ,though I could talk about it all day! Hugely tuneable car indeed, for very little money 400+hp is easy - that B58 is bonkers! Thanks again pal and enjoy yours 👍👍

      With your mods, perhaps it is still not an M Car, but you have for more fun than with an RS3 or a A45 AMG.
      On the other side, with an M Car of the same generation. You have a N55 or a S55 that are great fun engine but with a lot less reliability than your B58.
      So, don’t you think the 140i/240i is the sweet spot?

    My wife has a 3 door F21 120d even engaging sport + in this with only 184hp on a damp roundabout you’ll end up facing the wrong way
    Ive loved the M140i for many years and have been patiently waiting for the 2nd hand car market to get back to a sensible pricing level hopefully not long to wait
    to buy one and tell the wife as well lol Btw a great video i hope the window regulators on the 5 door are more reliable than the 3 door I’ve replaced 3 regulators in the last 2 1/2 years keep up the good work 👍

      Hey thanks for the comments man! 100% most RWD cars will catch you out in the damp if you’re not expecting! The market is certainly going back down gently and regularly, the 140 market at some point will bottom out but you can get early ones for sensible money, one day they might even go back up! Last of the 6cylinder 1 series and all that. Hopefully you get your hands on one, you’ll love it! 👌👍

    I just got a 39,000 mile m140i. The condition looks good but I feel sad because its not stock or rather I'm told it wasn't stock and worried the car has been reved too much or maybe even tracked? Not sure... will never know but it drives fine to me. Am I just too worried? It sounds like the remapped gearbox with xhp and potentially ecu remap but it looks stock now. It has a cobra exhaust. Will it be fine for the future? :( Thanks

    • @GregandCraigsGarage
      @GregandCraigsGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can still have a fine modified car if it’s been cared for, the engine in the m140 is fairly robust to say the least and if done properly and maintained well you’re off to a good start, if you’re worried and once over by a local bmw specialist would be a good idea for peace of mind. No one can guarantee anything for trouble free motoring but these cars are notoriously reliable really so if it’s been done to a good standard then you’ve got every chance of being fine with it. I’d have it checked as mentioned before for peace of mind 👍

    Put decent shocks, springs and LSD on it and they change the car massively for the better. Had mine 6 years and better in so many ways than my old Mk 7.5 Golf R by a long way.

      Really well done video. thanks.
      My wife bought one in 2016 as I was buying the much praised Golf R 7.5. Short story I ended up driving her car more than mine. Loved it. She just bought it for the long bonnet and the colour😁. had the Golf for 6 months or so I think and traded it in for a new 140. Sadly I got a wrong 'un and returned it to BMW. Vibes in drivetrain that they could never work out. Went through a couple of other cars and in 2018 specced and ordered a new 140 with an LSD fitted by dealer. Loved it, but suspension still rubbish.
      Had specced the car with adaptive but tried ACS, Bilstein and eventually settled with Birds/Bilstein. The Birds setup IMO is so much better than OEM or the other alternatives. They are not as low as ACS or Eibach springs but just work better when just pottering around and are more than good when doing the Nurburgring (which I do from time to time) and comfortable enough when when pottering around pot holed UK roads. The Bilstein shocks Birds used are valved for the 140.
      People say the 140 with decent suspension is not an M car. And it's not. But for 99% of people when set up well it is a blindingly fast car with a great engine and is far more comfortable to drive day to day than an M car.

      @@CoReDrillers There is a difference in volume for sure, the boot space for the hatchback is higher of course, the coupe could possibly handle better, I would't guess there was much in it, but I haven't driven the 240i to be honest, only the M2 and a M235i but that was years ago! Jesus Christ everywhere I look there’s a dead ting m140i video on TH-cam 😅😂😂
    Everyone is obsessed with them who can’t afford a proper M car or an rs3 or Mercedes etc.
    They are good for getting power out of them but they are just a cheap clapped out 1 series with a big engine. A 17 year old on minimum wage could afford 1. 😂🤣

    • @GregandCraigsGarage
      @GregandCraigsGarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the whole point is that they are affordable and bang for buck one of the best cars for that. The whole reason to buy one is because you can’t afford more expensive cars and they fulfil a very good purpose. Each to their own. I’d certainly be happy with one if I was 17! Like them or not, they are a very good car “clapped out” is a little strong there mate 😂
