    I have posted this a couple of times. I have gotten injection molded type results from doing the following process. 280-320 Grit dry wall screen sandpaper. then 400 dry, 400 wet, 600 wet, 800 wet, 1000 wet 1500 wet, 2000 wet, 3000 wet, then cut with low buff spin cloth on a dremel or drill "Low RPM" do nto allow heat to generate, keep it wet with water and polishing compound. Works great with PLA and PetG. once I change hot-end will try Nylon with the same steps. It sound like a lot of work but no need for paint. You can stop the process at 800 if you plan to prime and paint. Great video nice build, would you be will to part with the Cad files. I use FreeCad and while I can do train locomotive I have a hard time with hulls. I tried to take existing STL and frame it from their but its a lot of work.

      Hi mate, It's been 7 months on.... Just wondering if you ended up printing this model and how it turned out?
      I am in my 60's and was a Mariner for most of my life, I have never printed anything before and dont own a 3D printer. Do I need a huge printer? Would you recommend any decent budget printers in 2024 capable of getting this done?
      Appreciate your time to comment friend. Thanks, Jimmy - Australia

    What did you do to provide stability? I have put lead (about 1 lb.) in the bottom and it still tips over in the water.

    • @rodgeyd6728
      @rodgeyd6728 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roughly find the water line ( not looked on the files if there is one ) , a boat that size will need more than 1Ib. I use scrap lead melted down into blocks or strips for ballast, or use small gravel then pour fibreglass resin over to seal it up. If brushed motor's ( as I would) are used then use two 6 volt lead acid batteries, they are heavier and help in the ballast weight. Hope this helps 🇬🇧👍

    Beautiful work, my friend! Really amazing! 😃
    Are you going to make the details with copper tubes like Peter did? Or are you going to 3d print them? I think 3d printing would be easier, but... Sanding and so on... So I don't know what I would do. LOL

    Well done. Is 3d printing really the right process for square, flat elements like the superstructure? Given print time, electricity and filament costs, 4 or 5mm styrene or acrylic cut and glue welded would be quicker and cheaper.

    • @Top-Jimmy
      @Top-Jimmy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Quicker? I highly doubt that friend. You will not get a more precision job done by the method you have described. These printers of today are 4K and the detail one can achieve is at a micro level with print speeds up to 400mm a second. Though it is recommended to print at around 180mm for higher detail. The machines that are capable of these attributes are relatively cheapish at around $350 and upwards.
      Materials are cheap also. So I would have to disagree that you would get a quicker, More detailed, symmetrical and rigid build if you went the path of manually building this vessel.
      Here I am giving advice and I've never printed a thing in my life, However I have watched my friend at work with his machines and the jobs he's done for me have been nothing short of perfection... and very fast. If I was to go ahead and get one done I would choose ABS with UVR. It would last 100 years as long as no one ran it over with a truck.
      Cheers mate, Take care, Jim - Australia.

      @@davidstokes8441 Mate, That's how I learn too. There should be more people like us around who still hold fast old fashioned values, Ie: learning from one's own ignorance and trials. Thats me in a nutshell. Wise men dont learn anything from not asking questions.
      Good on you champ, Id still go ahead and build something from scratch though, as you say some of these boats are easy and look solid. Thanks for making my day mate. take care, God bless you and yours. - Jimmy- Australia.
