Mike, I'm sure you get lots of gravel related comments.
Here, we use 3/4"- for base on wet ground.
Then we put "crusher dust" the finest size on top. Once level, grab a bunch,(15 bags) of just add water cement powder. Put it on top and rake it in a little and wait for rain or water it yourself.
I made a turnaround at the end of my driveway, as I am on a hill with a blind 90° turn on a hill. When the city came to work on a line, the backhoe operator said the asphalt road was like nothing compared to my turnaround. He was picking up big chunks of asphalt and lifting it as high as he could and dropping it on my gravel turnaround, trying to break it up!
I scrape it with my plow truck all winter, and it has yet to fail. Not even a shovel full of rocks where the snow pile is in the spring.
    Try a little patch.

Good morning Morgan's. We have a local Ace Hardware just about 3 minutes away, great people, great service, locally owned. My dad used to say he would love to own a hardware store. Back in the day (in the 50s) he owned a laundry and dry cleaning business, which happened to be next to a hardware store. I helped out at his business occasionally and he'd send me over to the hardware store for something, I'd tell the clerk it was for my dad, didn't have to pay, they would settle up at the end of the month for the charge and everything was good. Ah, the good old days!! Later he sold the dry cleaning and laundry business, became a stockbroker and retired as one of the vice presidents of Merrill Lynch.

I grew up at a time when hardware stores carried almost anything you needed. We no longer have any local hardware stores, just a Lowe’s. Rarely do they stock those simple things you need. I needed a wedge for a loose axe handle. I guess the modern way is to just buy a new axe. I found an Ace Hardware about 20 miles away and cruised on over. HOLY GREAT JUMPING SNAPPING TURTLES! It was like time travel! This place had everything! It was well worth the trip over there. Now I know where to go when I really need something.

100% ...... not that I'm anti big box .... but these small businesspeople are OUR neighbors, friends and family. They have a personal stake in the products and services they provide. Wife and I are also small business owners and we do business with people who do business with us. Community is what it's all about. Appreciate big box for their huge inventory selection, etc. but we have to support our locals, it's just good business.

Mike, thank you for considering the neighbor's barn before burning. February 1994, my barn burned. We could never determine the cause. I have not gotten over that loss to this day. We moved another 100 (plus) year old barn to our farm and rebuilt it. I don't permir any fires within 500 feet of our barn.

Our local ACE hardware has grown in the last 20 years from an old creaky multi floor wooden building, to a new brick and mortar building! They still have everything you need. Yes, a couple bucks more, but it’s a mile from the house vs 12 miles to the big box stores. The employees know not only where everything is, but are knowledgeable. Great place!

I will add that we do have an Amish General Store that has EVERYTHING including wood stoves and nickel candy. Odd assortment of thing that farmers and ranchers need.

A day or so ago, I came across an old posting by Richard Perkins on his Ridgedale Farm channel. Richard is a British farmer working his 125-acre property in Sweden. He is a leader in regenerative farming, with books published on how to make small organic farming profitable, while improving the soil mimicking nature. In the video in question, he was helping a farm in Scotland set up a fairly extensive "No dig garden", and he was using an Avant about the size of the one you rented to run back and forth between the pile and the rows of no dig beds. It was ideal for navigating over the pasture and between the rows of beds without chewing up the area.

About a mile from my work was a little tiny old school hardware store that sold a little bit of everything they would cut and thread pipe for you they would make you chainsaw chains to length, and they would make keys on an old fashioned manual key cutter. Not one of those new ones like they have at Walmart and Lowe's were you just stick the key in it and the Machine cuts it this one is you had to clamp the sample key in and it followed a pain and that moved the key blank in and out against the cutter wheel never had a single key cut wrong from their. Unfortunately they closed about a year ago but about 15 minutes away in the opposite direction is a larger little old school Ace Hardware that sells everything from heating and cooling parts plumbing parts parts for wood stoves tools kitchenware lawn mowers literally everything you would need except Lumber, and I try to patronize them as much as possible

Hey Mike. It was pretty cool getting to see Levi hard at work. I kind of figure since he has his own channel that you try not to show him much on purpose. Maybe it is like since he is his own celebrity, you would have to pay him more to make an appearance on your channel. Ha Ha. Anyway I think it would be really cool if you could get the Avant to add to your tool box. I realize you are not asking our opinion and mine is not worth much but I like that machine and think it offers you so many options on things for the future. I wish the company could offer you some kind of deal that would make it well worth the investment. After all they are getting some really good advertising on your channel. I think they would be very wise to at least give you a really big discount if not sponsor it altogether. I also think if you are going to get one, you really need the bigger one. My thinking is that if you eventually sell the skid steer, then you will certainly need the biggest Avant you can get. Thanks for letting us feel like we are a part of the team even though I just sit here in my chair and watch all your hard work.

Two days ago I was looking at a small fleet of those AVANTS. They look smaller than the model you rented. The rep you had on a previous video mentioned they sold some to a Canadian company. I pass their compound three or four times a week. They use them to clear sidewalks here in Hamilton Ontario. They did not get used much last winter.

You should buy that Avant if possible .They might give you a deal since it is used a little and you rented it from them .That little loader looks really handy for your home projects and the cabin site too.

I love Mike's setup, But if it was me. I would have a place I cut wood with no gravel.
The reason, is that I like making mulch out of the saw dust and wood chips.
Most the time the saw dust and chips keep a guy out of the mud. But if it does get a little muddy, A guy can always throw down some hay or straw.
I do not think they have a garden, So I do not think they care about stuff like this.
Man! I really enjoyed this video today, He started talking about stuff right away and letting us know what the scoop is.
It will be interesting to see what the next test subject does and is like.

I do the same thing Mike. Always try to hit the local Ace Hardware first. People are helpful, and we keep it local. Of course we always end up at Lowe’s or Home Depot at some point.

I bought a set of those 3M headphones after watching you use them. Those things are awesome; they shut out the splitter and mower noise while letting you hear good stuff.

I Love all the equipment you use here, I would Love to have some of it as well, but a small city lot does not allow the 'need' for it. The $100k question. Avant or F650 Dump Truck? I suspect the Avant would see more use on property than F650 Dump would off property. I vote for the Avant.

One gets wiser as they get older to help make up for the physical decline. For example, when I drop something instead of just bending over and picking it up, I ask myself, "Is there anything else I can do while I'm down here?"

Good going Mike on not burning that pile of brush that maybe could have started a fire at your mother's neighbors horse barn...I've worked around horse barns and fire is a constant fear...it amazes me ( I never smoked ) that with all the no smoking signs visitors even some co workers still want to smoke near the barns....how many forest fires have been started by a cigarette thrown away...its a big worry even with electricity too...we had 24 / 7 eyes on them

Mike, you do not need to look down at your shoes for anything, except for perhaps a broken shoelace. Physically, everyone has to deal with progressing age and its accompanying limitations. However, with age comes knowledge, experience, and analytical expertise. In addition, with age comes the realization that you are capable of achieving far more than you originally thought. In fact, you have the ability to do most anything you want. Keep it going, Mike. All the best.

I am right with you about Westlake's Ace Hardware. I always try to support them, even if you have to pay a bit more. Many big ticket items these days have fixed pricing, meaning they are the same price at almost all stores. It is a no brainer at that point. As far as bigger ticket items, I purchased a mower and blower at Westlake's, not to mention about a ton of loose bolts, nuts, and screws.

Since you have the wheeled vehicle just would like to see what else it could do while you still have it in your clearing to clean up that area more and see if you also can go down the hill and remove a lot of those dead fallen trees down near the creek everything else in that area and you can easily pull those trees out that hilly area where those trees have fallen while you still have no wheeled machine.
Although I know you’re going to do what you want to do is refuse to tell you what to do, I would like to see if you were able to go down those hills and pull the trees from that area and get those tree logs at least brought up to the wood yard area while you still have it, so you would not tara the ground up with the tracks.
    Sincerely!
    R.S.V.
