    Nice work. I particularly like the use of lay underneath. Saves a lot of time, effort, and $. As long as the "floor beneath the floor" is level and still solid, this method should work, fine. There are also products like Schluter Systems that give such jobs a bit more stability and longevity. But for the floor in this example, I hardly think such a product would be needed to add to the life of the new floor. Thank you.

      It doesn't need gaps if it's vinyl, I think that is what the critics were so confused about....wood needs expansion gaps, vinyl material does not.
      I have this flooring in all of my bathrooms,plus my laundry room. What I've learned is if you don't get is pushed together tight enough from wall to wall, then it starts to spread apart leaving gaps between the planks I the the center of the room. Vinyl is an overall short-lived proposition because it is not at all as durable. As scratches and abrasions happen to this much softer surface dirt will enter the cuts and scratches and you can't clean the scratches out. Laminates are worse because they absorb water into the edges, swell up and then the veneer gets chipped. If you're flipping the home go for it but down the road anyone installing these floors will wish they had installed porcelain faux wood plank. Even if you chip it it's way easier to remove and replace as long as you save the leftovers in your garage.

    • @thatsmyopinion.whatsyours8825
      @thatsmyopinion.whatsyours8825 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used 12mm laminate in my house except for bath. kitchenand bedrooms. It never swelled and I never have any chipping problems. But I use the appropriate cleaner (no water) for them and have not drug furniture around. So I assume that is the reason for no chipping. I guess if you have kids or push furniture around you might have swelling, chipping etc. Mine still look new after 7 years.

    It's meant to be a floating floor,you was suppose to use a spacer between the flooring and the wall or molding,then after it's completely down remove the spacer prior to 1/4 round, leave it lose around the perimeter for expansion, and when you put the 1/4 round down you nail it to the wall not the floor. But I've seen it like you have done it, but if not careful the flooring can bow on you later down the road.

    • @haroldemmersondesign9096

    • @insufficientfunds5603
      @insufficientfunds5603 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be a great idea when considering having a level floor. You may want to consider the pros and cons of it as if you feel it will raise the floor too much. It never hurts ripping out that old nasty tile as it can eventually come loose due to moisture or voids under the tile and replace some of the thickness with hardy or other subflooring. If its not a concern and your confident enough go for it!

    • @speaknsee
      @speaknsee  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You could do that and take the floor up and re-use the flooring in another place. The floor underneath will still be as it was when you laid the vinyl plank. BUT - the trim would have to be taken off and put back, and in doing that the lower walls might get damaged and have to be repainted. Or if you would use 1/4 round along the bottom instead of taking up the trim, the 1/4 round would have to be removed, than the trim would just need repainted and caulked. The answer to your question is yes it could be done as you mentioned. However it would take some work and maybe a lot of touching up once removed. Seems to be a lot of work for a 1 year lease. But if you don't mind the work, or you were to renew for a longer period. Anyways. hope this helps. thanks for watching

    My bathroom floor (actually my whole house) is pretty uneven. Several tiles are cracked. The floor is just not rigid enough for ceramic tile. Anyway I would like to put something more flexible over the tile. Do you think these planks would work on an uneven floor or should I look at a sheet product?

    • @speaknsee
      @speaknsee  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it all depends on "How uneven" your tile is. We have a couple spots where the tile under our vinyl plank is uneven (example: one of the dining room chair legs was off the tile, and the other feet were touching so the chair would rock a little when you moved in it). We went over it with the plank and chairs in that spot don't rock anymore and you can't see or tell that it is uneven at that spot. We just went for it. But I can't promise that if you did this, that you would get the same results. This is the only floor I've ever done it on, with that said, I would do it again to another floor without hesitation. But if our tile had been totally ruined and damaged already, I wouldn't have cared about saving it and probably would've just tore it outthe old tiles and then put the plank down.

But we also have central air conditioning, so we haven't gone through or dealt with " Radiant Heat " but I'd say this. Only the cooking class was worth anything for my normal life.Though what I "learned in school" my mother already taught me before I was 9 years old. School waited until I was 12 to supposedly "teach" me how to boil water, make orange juice from frozen and make meatballs and noodles. LOL!!! Oh i forgot the cookies and brownies we made as well. What 12 year old girl does not know how to make home made cookies? Just saying.
      It would be great if school would teach something educational like how to maintain your appliances or home or apartment once you move out. That would be worth the whole 12 years spent there after they supposedly taught you how to read. Only 2/3 kids graduate reading past a 3rd grade level in America the rest are ranged between 5th and 7th grade with a minority reading 9th grade to-college level. I just found out you only legally need to educate your child to the 8th grade to not be found educationally neglectful. They probably do this because our school system fails miserably at teaching our kids anything these days so they cant blame a parent for not doing something they have repeatedly have shown they cant even do.

      You can add an additional wax ring or buy a thicker one to raise the height of the seal, just in case. Many times, people do not consider this issue and end up with a slow, seepage leak that eventually rots the sub-floor.

The measurements of the planks are ( Gauge: 1/6" / 4.2mm ) ( Plank 2.36 sq.ft. / 7in x 48in.(180mm x 1220mm) ( Box 18.91 sq.ft / 1.76M2 )8 Planks per box. The box is Orange and white with grey borders. This is all the info I have on the brand. I looked for it online and couldn't find it, so I'm just relaying to you what the box says. @davegordon6943 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Prettygall23 no it won't leave a residue. You would have to tear up the quarter round (if your apartment has quarter round, it's the piece of trim on the very bottom of the base trim, looks like a quarter of a pie) and put it back afterwards. If you are very careful you could reuse the trim but it's pretty easy to break. It wouldn't be hard if you had all the tools and you dont break the trim but and this is a big but, things always happen when you do these sorts of jobs. It never fails something will go wrong and then you have to fix more stuff. So long story short, I wouldn't do it unless you are good at installing trim, filling the nail holes, painting etc. I know it doesn't seem like much but it might be more trouble than it's worth. Sorry so long. And don't listen to them, some folks can't wait to insult others, it's a damn shame. Have a good one

      @@Stealth12354 The substrate for click plank needs to be pretty level to prevent the joints from moving and slipping or breaking apart over time. Manufacturer's specifications typically allow for 1/16" drop within 3 ft. Once you figure for the drop in the grout lines I can almost guarantee this substrate didn't meet those standards even if the ceramic was laid perfectly level. In my professional opinion the ceramic should have been torn out or self leveled before installation of the plank.
