    Wish this would've been the top video instead of the 4th. Went to 3 different auto store to try and find a tool I didn't need. This was a great learning experience. Thank you!

    I followed your method this week to change the brakes without problems. the trickiest part was removing bolts from the motor. once they were free, pull the motor up and wiggle and it came apart no problem. putting it back together- make sure the motor is seated correctly and then with the calliper and motor in both hands, squeeze together. don't use the bolts to draw them together. I would recommend jet washing the wheel arches first as I got dirt everywhere.
    saved me 150 euros - thanks 😀

    Good video, the only thing wrong is that those pins you "Adjusted" are supposed to be free floating!
    It is a good practice to allways remove, clean and relubricate those when removing the caliper for some reason.

    Did it today on my 2012 passat. Worked like a charm, but I would like to say a word of warning about those bolts holding the motor assembly. They can be stuck and snap.... I have heard haha ;) ...
    Anyway, if you give them a bit of massage and tap them loose using an L-key and small hammer, they will come out nice and smooth. Awesome video, right to the point and very helpful!

    My American 2007 VW Passat 2.0T I4 BPY B6 requires a scanner to do/complete the job, because you get a parking brake fault: a continual flashing light and audible alarm. The icarsoft VAWs II scanner claims to do the job, but I'm trying to get the upgrade for it, while my PC is down (with the spently DVD-WRONG despair manual) because it has a blue-screen stopcode error. Cheers! To fly-by-wire!
    P.S. I used xubuntu OS on USB to save my windows 10 files, then deleted the primary partition, and did a windows reinstall. Meanwhile, I put the icarsoft upgrade program on another computer, and upgraded my VAWS v2.0 scanner, but the EPB service function still does not clear the fault (there is no DTC), so I'm still working on it.

    Well that’s good but you also have to take out those pins the you where spinning and grease them they should be spinning by hand and moving in and out by hand. If you don’t do that your inner brake pad will ware allot faster and your rotors will overheat and warp.

    I think your slide pins are supposed to slide mate.

    • @liamstarrs3113
      @liamstarrs3113 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought that too. You have to remove them sliders and clean them and grease them so they move with the brakes. If they are solid the can cause damage and it won't be a smooth brake.

    • @samp5226
      @samp5226 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@liamstarrs3113 exactly that. I check and clean mine with abrasive pad if there's build up. Do it every time the caliper comes off for whatever reason.

    • @andrewscott9063
      @andrewscott9063  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. The piston wont retract far enough for new pads as it automatically adjusts as the old pads wear through - so you need to wind them back to the diagnostic position with either VCDS or this method (or similar) 👍 hope that helps

    • @andrewscott9063
      @andrewscott9063  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's been a very long time since I made this video, but there are 2 bolts holding the caliper on. Once removed it should slide off the disk easily, exposing the pads. Could be that the caliper is being held in place by corrosion, or alternatively the parking brake might still be on somehow?

    • @andrewscott9063
      @andrewscott9063  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a while, but I presume so. I'd hace thought any new calipers would come with a new motor and be in the diagnostic position from the start, so you probably wouldn't need to wind the piston back to fit the new one.

    • @Musik622
      @Musik622 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @andrewscott9063  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you can afford a B6 Passat and Insurance you should invest in a 30£ code scanner that can do it for you without any hackjobs.

    • @andrewscott9063
      @andrewscott9063  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's been nearly 3 years since I made the video, but at the time it wasn't possible to pick up a vcds for less than ~£250. The £30 devices could only read codes, not reset brakes into the diagnostic position, thus the video.
