    Thrawn is the biggest missed opportunity of any villain to NOT make on the “big screen,” of any movie franchise. Period! He is easily one of the best Characters in Star Wars, and is the only villain who could be more intimidating than Vader himself or any Sith for that matter! Long live Thrawn!

    "On one side were handpicked units of Palpatine's own private army, equipped with fifteen top-line combat ships. On the other side were Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo of the Chiss Expansionary Defense and perhaps twelve small and insignificant border patrol ships."

      Agreed, the greater good mentality is hard to combat when the only other players would kill you for failure or expect you to die for the cause.
      Thrawn was the only side that wanted to maintain the maximum amount of life.

    • @msutter117
      @msutter117 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      vampuricknight1 yeah he’s the only imperial besides Palleon that I agree are the best leaders for the empire. And war isn’t black and white. It’s about winning while preserving as much life as possible, one reason I think super weapons are a waste of resources.

    • @vampuricknight1
      @vampuricknight1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@msutter117 even in the new canon palpatine's former flunkies at the end of return of the jedi are like... Why did we let him build a costly super weapon in the first place.... but even worse how could we bankrupt the galaxy a 2nd time to build a 2nd one!
      They also remarked something like each death star equaled something like 1,000 star destroyers and dreadnaughts in materials alone. With that number of ships they could have sent an imperial force to ever single system and wiped out the rebels through sheer numbers (literally being everywhere at once)... but instead palpatine had to have his giant death laser... because.... reasons.

    • @msutter117
      @msutter117 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      vampuricknight1 In both Legends and Canon Thrawn is far better at leading then the emperor. Honestly force projection is stronger then fear. More ships cover more territory and even better the empire is less likely to fall apart. The super star destroyers make more sense to me

    • @butterbean8881
      @butterbean8881 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Matthew Sutter Nah, Palpatine is. He orchestrated the CW personally, influencing the separatist tactics and he is a cunning politician. He not only knew military tactics but also the social and monetary side of the galaxy, which Thrawn didn’t. Thrawn was a military genius. Thrawn wanted to build stealth ships but Sidious ordered superweapons to be built which was the correct calls since the Vong had planet destroying capabilities too and the superweapons could be used as a fear tactic to supress any rebellion which would arrise from the Vong/Rebels conflict. Palpatine foresaw everything except Vader and would’ve won if it wasn’t for that.

    Some sources say that Thrawn is a villain but I disagree. Thrawn is more like a hero who served the wrong side. Thrawn is nothing like a villain because he is kind, reasonable, honorable, and be respectful toward everyone even his enemies, I can't call this kind of personality a villain. He is a good guy antagonist.

    • @boyar1978

      the jedi and the republic were the true villains. The empire brought freedom, capitalism, order, and security to their people.What did the republic offer. Corruption, slavery, socialism, and chaos. The Jedis were as bad if not worse then the Sith. The Jedi would hunt down Sith and kill them just lke the sith would. I have to state that I would support the Empire as it would be a society I would prefer to reside in. I believe order is more important than freedom as society cannot function without structure and guidance.

    • @boyar1978
      @boyar1978 6 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      what has the rebellion brought? they commit acts of terrorism against a government that has brought order, peace, and prosperity to the galaxy. The Empire did not bother a race unless they tried to resist the Empire. I like the empire because it represents what I desire in a government. There should be one person with absolute control of the government. The government should favour Slavic, Latin, Asian, Turkic, Iranian and Arabic People. and should act Machiavellian. I must admit that I am a Fascist and this is why I am attracted to the Empire.

      I liked Stalin and dreamed of living during his time and my only disagreement with Hitler was when he attacked the Soviet Union. I am willing to live without freedom of speech and human rights as long as my state provides law and order and punishes those who break the law. I dislike disorder and inefficiency.

    • @boyar1978
      @boyar1978 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I also do not like Democracy as it is inefficient. The common person should not be choosing their leadership as they are not educated enough to make decisions having to do with governance. if you allow peasants to govern you end up like the USA which is a big mistake that now threatens the entire world.

    • @JamesWillmus
      @JamesWillmus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      What you believe in is called totalitarianism. A totalitarian regime is made up of one arrogant person surrounded by a bureaucracy of cowards. They rule out of fear and make the population dependent on the government for security and necessities like food and water. Those who think and act differently or defiantly are swiftly neutralized. But a totalitarian regime will never have a place in my homeland, because I believe that there should never be any one person who has absolute power over anyone else. That belief is at the heart of the American identity. If you allow peasants to govern you end up like the USA, a country that beat the world's most powerful military in a revolution which still shakes the world today. This country has survived a civil war, fought in many foreign wars over the last two centuries, has protected allies and made enemies tremble with fear. America has managed to build a society out of people from all over the Earth, from all nations, from all races. And while not all are treated equally here, most are better off living in America rather than in the lands of their ancestors. America is respected and well regarded by the majority of people around the world precisely because of the 'peasants' who shaped this nation. If the only weakness of America is the people who live in it, then it's all the proof I need of how strong a democracy can be and how much faith I can put in humanity.

      Girly Knight I prefer stories that have a more grounded continuity. Also, George Lucas had an original philosophy for Star Wars. I'm all for expansion, but I feel that the EU got way off track sometimes. Disney seems to be having a similar problem right now. Personally, I think expansion of a universe should be allowed, but there should always be something linking it back to the main philosophies of the original intent.
      I liked Revan, Bane, the history of the Je'daii , the Republic comics, Thrawn trilogy etc. But Palpatine clone? The Yuuzahn Vong? An invading alien race that is almost immune to the Force? Its just way way off-base in my opinion. I understand that a lot of people loved that kind of stuff, but it simply did not feel like Star Wars to me.

    • @rbrick3685
      @rbrick3685 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Old legends Imperial Remnant and eventually Fel Empire were great concepts. Imperial Remnant was used in Mandolorian to great effect. The Fel Empire wasn't a totalitarian autocracy but rather a benevolent monarchy, which treated its subjects with respect, even possessing institutionalized force users who protected the emperor and upheld the values of the empire. I would've loved a reformed Empire and New Republic hunting a previously unseen common foe (a la True Sith in KOTOR II) and coming together to defeat them despite great cultural differences, with a particular focus on Jedi Knight game series and Luke's SUCCESSFUL Jedi Praxeum. Making the Empire lawful neutral would be an interesting step for the SW universe, but as we all know they chose shallow storytelling and plastic characters, trashing established themes and removing any nuance that survived the SE and prequels. I love EU and prequel days btw, but prequels are objectively bad movies, but great storyline. I think George Lucas is a bonafide genius and a true visionary. I could go on for days about how SW 1977-2012 was just the bombdiggity though I lost interest around 2006. I miss the old galactic database if anyone remembers that.

In the Disney world it must be black and white. The protagonist must be good and the antagonist must be bad. They only make movies that can be comprehended by everyone, including children.

    • @vampuricknight1
      @vampuricknight1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The specifics are unknown, but the primary theory is that Palpatine learned of their existence through a myriad of spies and information brokers that stretched from coruscant to the outer edges of the galaxy. Most of the ground work was actually done by the former sith masters following Darth Bane's rule of two leading to what ended up being a 1,000 year plan to conquer the republic and the jedi.
      Hell, the sith would probably expect the possibility of an outside force naturally, given its kind of a trope of their order to build and recruit from the outer edges of the galaxy which the republic tends to forget even exists, and then stomp their way to the republic center with the built up forces.

    I don't think Palpatine was necessarily right with respects to the Vong threat. The Republic already had great military minds like Thrawn who could've repelled the invasion force. I think the creation of the empire to create a military force was unnecessary due to the fact that it's creation spawned the rebellion and decades of back and forth wars losing valuable resources and manpower. Palpatine prioritized his own power over the security of the galaxy by plunging it in a perpetual state of war for many decades resulting in a weaker galaxy. Had he informed the Senate of the extragalactic threat they would've had 3 decades to formulate a solution. Unfortunately for the galaxy far far away that didn't happen.

    Palpatine Was evil, no doubt about it, and he made a lot of avoidable mistakes, but O'pali was 100% true when he surmised that Palpatine's Empire would have been able to fend off the Yuuzhan Vong with far less losses and casualties than the New Republic. With Thrawn at the head and all of Palpatine's projects, the Imperials would have conducted total war against the Yuuzhan Vong, not letting them gain a massiveass foothold in the galaxy or using inappropriate hit-and-run tactics like the New Republic did, which were geared towards the Empire and not the Vong. Plus, wasn't there a bioweapon, Alpha Red or something, that the New Republic developed that would specifically terminate the Vong but didn't use for "ethical" reasons? The Empire would have been as excited to use it as people nowadays will use their money for a ticket to the next major blockbuster. That way they can systematically annihilate their enemy with impunity while not having to worry about collateral damage, since it only affects the Yuuzhan Vong themselves. There would have been vastly-less casualties and loss of life in the Galaxy if the Empire had fought the Vong. Hell, the Vong sent their Ooglith shapeshifter agents to the Imperial Remnant to destabilize it as much as possible because they knew that the Imperials were still the biggest military threat to them.

Perhaps that cloned Jedi could be like Snoke and they manage to turn one of Leia and Han’d children, that child being Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren. The empire of the hand could become the first order, which is a rogue nation of former imperials trying desperately to regain control over the new republic. By the time episode 7 starts, they’ve become a significant threat to the republic to the point where they take over Corusant near the end of the film, to substitute the star killer base thing. ( I don’t hate the idea of the whole death star 2.0 but if planet killing weapons are a little played out they could try something different)
