@@lauraelizabeth4444It really is! So glad to be able to say The Lion King was my first Broadway musical. One I would definitely see again. I will never forget it!
By far the best musical I have ever seen. I sat in an isle seat in the orchestra section and seeing the animals pass me during this section is something that I can’t explain. THIS is the musical EVERYONE needs to see. By far the best and nothing can beat it!
I saw the lion King twice, once in Houston and the second time on Broadway, New york. And I would do anything just to see it again. It's amazing how it celebrates African culture. From the props to the music it is definitely worth the price.
Makes me cry like a baby, too. Always has. They hit this piece with amazing skill and the harmonics, the melody, the lyrics... it's perfection. Hearing it sung with these voices, too... it's stunning.
josefine: It's an earth music, wonderfully rooted in the soul of each one of us regardless of ethnicity and came alive in this composition's marvelous performance. I always get moved by it and tears rolls out of a deep nostalgia for the joy life. ¡AFRICA! the cradle of humanity, of all humans, no matter how far people think their DNA is from AFRICA, AFRICA is embroided in everybody's being!
This is so moving. I don't know if it's because I'm from Africa now living in Europe, but I can't help but weep. It's a fantastic show and a fantastic celebration of Africa.
I’m born American and it NEVER fails to bring me to tears. Julie Taymor somehow tapped into something that no matter what our skin color, race or where we come from, we ALL get it!
I can see why this has been on Broadway for 27 years but I can also see in the future it always will return because it's the hope of all God's creatures the music the beat the singers are just fabulous in the king he is just great don't forget his woman standing there with her mate the baby in the middle the next king wow loved every minute of it thank you
I have watched this three times, and I cry every single time it's so beautiful and this coming from someone who has watched like 20 broadways shows in her life time -- this opening piece is one of a kind
Lauren it is!!' its absolutly FANTASTIC!! best show i have EVER seen. me my mum and my partner went on 15 April to watch it in Londons West End!! its so MOVING!! words can't explain it.
This musical was incredible. I took my Nana to see it in 2005. And now I'm remembering her and reflecting on the new Lion King I just watched tonight and thinking about the circle of life. I miss you Nan 💖
I wonder what Mr Walt Disney would say if he saw this. I know that he would be so proud to have this associated with the Disney name, I hope that he had a front row seat on opening night.
Leslie Broderick this would be the one thing in recent times he would be proud of. This is how Disney should be done. Instead of these crappy live action remakes
Seen this live twice and I can’t even begin to convey the sheer amount of shivers that this whole musical sends through to your very soul. This song alone is absolutely phenomenal.
I'm with you Cosa.....so passionate...and the animals represented are facing a lot of trouble from loss of habitat. Breaks my heart....what a stirring performance. Namaste'
I have seen MANY plays and musical plays in my life- maybe 50? The Lion King is by far the most beautiful one of all I've seen, visually speaking. That opening scene IS worth seeing it- I saw this play 6 times now!
I have had the honor of seeing this show on the stages in both NYC and London as well as all over the country. The last time I took my 6'4, 300 pound, construction, non emotional husband with me. We had second row isle seats and some of the animals stopped in front of. I have never seen that look on my husband's face. 3 years later he still talks about the show.
One of the best Broadway Musicals I have had the privilege of seeing. I can still remember and feel the chill bumps from those days of witnessing this opening scene live, I started balling in the theater.
this was the first musical I ever saw, when I was literally only four years old, but I remember it clearly. it was on broadway and I remember being so amazed because I couldn't comprehend how anything was possible because of how little I was. I thought that there were real animals walking beside me and then the sheer happiness of hearing such a beautiful song live! I was so interested that as soon as I could, I started thinking about stage and sets and music. a year later i started doing plays :) when I was nine I saw the wicked touring cast and was again struck with so many emotions. I decided then on that there was nothing more important to me than musical theatre and somehow dedicated my literal life to it. I memorized as many musicals as possible, and a few years later, I found myself in a silly school-musical production of the lion king. it was the first one I ever did, and tbh, it lighted up my heart. im currently taking professional voice lessons with a woman who lead others into the career, playing a lead in my high school production, studying acting, continuing dance lessons, and looking into colleges to attend. if the lion king never existed, I don't know what Id be doing with my life. thank you
The Lion King is by far my favorite Disney movie. If there is anything I want to do before I die, us to see this musical. I would have a hard time watching it through the tears. Just watching this I'm in tears because of how beautiful and moving this is.
My life goal is to see this live on Broadway. This is so beautiful and touching. I am 36yo now and i am literally crying now. I cry everytine i hear this and this are pure tears of joy! What a song, what a show! The Lion King was the first movie my dad took me to the cinma to see. I simply love it with every inch of my heart! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw this performance in person today. Words can’t describe how amazing it was. The actors, costumes, props, music…………I was truly awestruck at how amazing it was. I wish I could see it again and again.
Saw this my senior year of high school, 2016. Didn't see it on Broadway, but a touring production. Within the first few seconds I was tearing up. It honestly is so much better than the movie itself and has a lot more heart to it. It is such a beautiful production. It hits you instantly with chills. I remember hearing my classmates around me crying after this song. It is such a beautiful show and I definitely would see it again.
one of the most inspirational songs and a wonderful game of actors. every time when the routine of gray everyday just breaks the bones makes me sad I just open this video and feel as life runs through the veins, I feel the breath of something higher than all this fuss
I have seen The Lion King three times and would see it many more if I could afford it. There is nothing like it. The only other performance that had such an effect on me was Yul B in the King and I.
When the bird woman came out I burst into tears. I’ve seen this so many times, but every time, the sheer amount of love and detail put into the costumes, set, and music is unreal. I am not fond of the film, but I could watch this a million times over and feel power and movement every time. There is so much passion for this culture that the film couldn’t have ever captured, only people with true African roots could, and it’s an overwhelming experience 🧡
I have not watched this live but I get goose bumps whenever I see it. It always moves me. The performers believe in telling that story. They translated so beautifully and powerfully. I am so speechless: beautiful performers, dance, choreography, puppetry, acting, singing, costumes, make up, music, effects in sound and lighting and the African signatory setting. A masterpiece on its own. I salute the artists! And I thank God for you, to bring remarkable experiences to audiences. Thanks Louise for sharing.
I took my daughter to see this at the movie theater at one yrs old 1995 on her birthday, took her to see it at age 21 live ...it was simply the best gift I ever gave her.....it was all over face
I've seen the stage show 5 times in 2 states, and I plan to see it again. 😍 Seriously I cry during the opening every single time!!! If you haven't seen it, please do! You will not be disappointed!
I've seen this musical, some time ago, with my parents in the Netherlands... Wow... just wow... All these 'animals', the vocal capabilities from the actors and actresses... Great musical.
I've seen this in Wichita, Omaha, and London, and if I get the chance, I know I'll watch it again. Every time the opening song begins, I get chills, and I feel as if the music pierces my bones, and I'd give ANYTHING to set foot in Africa someday and be surrounded by the cultures and the wildlife for real. On another note, I just love how Mufasa and Sarabi look at each other here. Mufasa is so proud of his beautiful queen, and Sarabi is so happy to be holding their new prince. You can tell the characters are a happy family just by the expressions of the actors. THAT is talent!
I feel the same about Lion King as I do War Horse - the actors are so good you kind of forget you're watching people with headdresses, puppets etc. Chills every time!
Saw both back to back on a school trip. Down the front, practically front seats in both. Had an isle seat in lion king and the actors coming down scared the shit out of me.
This is the best show ever its so so captivating nothing has even come close to it ..the performers are amazing and the music and voices make me cry every time ..and I get goose bumps ...there is something so magical about the lion King..possibly the beauty of Africa brought through performance & song 🎵 ✨
I’ve seen seen this about 3 times and honestly I still love it to this day. The costumes, the music, everything about it is great. If someone asked for my rating, I’d say 8/10
Broadway can’t stay dark forever.😭😭😭 The show must go on. To create and encounter beauty like this is to glimpse the face of God and live to tell the tale. ❤️
Saw it last year. I cried I got out the theatre with goosebumps everywhere my eyes were crying happy tears, this film, production is always going to be my favourite thing in the world it’s just so peaceful, my mum died three years ago sadly. But every time I hear circle of life it always brings peace to me because i know she’s always there even when she’s not, ~ Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you.~ mufasa
No matter how many times I see this opening number, it always hits hard (in a good way lol). I am always so entranced by the people who play the giraffes. That takes stamina and strength.
My mum told me that when I was a small child I would constantly rewatch the Lion King, far more than any other animated movie. I even broke the casette because I watched it so many times.
Imagine being part of that energy, being those voices loud behind the crowd - anyone who's never gone has no idea how much the isles get included in the intro. SO moving. I legit felt moved when I saw it - distinctly remember the elephant trunk cast a shadow over my seat. Taken to a region of our world we take for granted, our races birth places. EDIT* this is beyond appropriation - this is appreciation and it would sadden me if any member of the play feels like they're bastardizing the cultures for money or capitalizing (Disney has horrid history) this art has to be considered as is imo
This must be breathtaking to see in person.
It is 😍

Well he was a racist so that's doubtful.
He'd be proud of Broadway for keeping the true nature of his films while he'd be absolutely disgusted at what the Disney company has become.
