She’s still pretty good though I can lanehold steamknight with her and kill manfred with only her s3’s alone as long as I heal her, she’s really nice she’s just not meta she’s probably the closest to just making someone balanced in a meta setting unfortunately but not the worst, I can also use her to solo the elite assassins in chongyue’s event annihilation (forgot which annihilation number it is) when that annihilation will release, she solos the assassin lane in the actual event too on the ex boss stage. She’s really nice

I would absolutely love if you could put those 6* welfares next time. They aren't "pull" priorities, but for some stacked units like CE she absolutely deserves a review, and impact rating to incentivize people to build her.
Vivi has a really narrow niche. Lane that spews elite enemies at her at intervals that coincide with her skill uptimes. It's not exactly common but i can think of a few possible lanes like that of the top of my head, including some previous contingency contract main stages and some maps in IS#4. You could argue that texas alter can deal with those lanes similarly well or better than her while also offering flexibility of being a fast redeploy and while that's probably true, texas alter is kind of an outlier, or at least she used to be... More and more of the recent ops are just kinda fucked in terms of balance and that just makes many other ops look dogshit in comparison. I don't even want to talk about walter and what her existence is going to do to level and boss design in the future. I like Vivi and will use her and hope for a good module, 3 stacks on shield and some res ignore hopefully, but the current direction with balance is making me a little sad.
Fair review! Something you missed I want to point out, but pretty much everyone else missed that too, is the defensive part of her Talent 1. From how I understand it, it's multiplicative and should scale multiplicatively with Sanctuary, so if you use for example Quercus with her, the 16% Sanctuary end up at 30% damage reduction against Elites. Quercus' and her Skill Cycles don't exactly line up and you maybe have to use another healer depending on enemy, but with this interaction her survivability with Abjurer Supports is incredibly good.
If she had multiple Shields, 3 like Nian and Mudrock, and the Shields gave her either SP or reduced the Res of the enemy that breaks the Shield by 10% to 20% she would be so much better, even with the melee only restriction. I don't get why HG gave her such a bad Shield mechanic, other units get to have multiple layers of Shield with Shield breaks giving some bonus, why can't Viviana have that
That's also what bugs me the most, they gave her a crappy shield with no extra utility, why even have the shield at that point? They probably slapped it on last second.

Really hope HG pull a Lin move and gives her an amazing module. It's really sad to see long awaited NPC to be as niche as her. And she's not even that unique at her niche.
Frankly if she gets a module that causes Burn gauge build-up I can see it. Judging by Eben/Logos that'd be 8% of damage dealt, unless she got a % of ATK instead. It's a nice burst of damage and has ingrained -20 RES for 10 sec (~half S3). Supposing nothing special about it, issue would be getting it to proc initially against enemies with more than ~70 RES, but thankfully it gives her a lot more room to play around in. For talent upgrades, removing the elite/boss generation condition and tacking on SP on break or SP while unbroken would help a lot with cycling. I don't see them doing much interesting with her Damage-Up/Damage-Resist talent outside a neat percentage increase. Very excited for what they might do with arts guard modules.
I tried using her and give her Roberta's make up machine to simulate "IF" her talent able to block ranged+stacks and it was much more comfortable to use. Couldn't agree more on that 0.5 talent, it's so true Her defensive is picky. Elites ranged are common in any stages and content. She's like 5.5 star. To be frank her kit is half-assed. Still using her tho, it's HG faults not her.

The problem isn’t that she’s bad, just look at lessing. The problem is that she should’ve been better. She’s added onto a list of now 3 ‘non-limited on limited banner’ ops. These kinds of operators, while more common than their limited counterparts, they don’t have rerun rate ups like other operators, and have to share their rate up with said limited op. It takes more effort to get them and you end up with the embodiment of mediocrity. Also like hoolheyak, she was a character people have been looking forward to as they’ve featured in previous events. Unfortunately they’re both mid.
I think Viviana's kit is not about using the skill asap but rather prolonging the fight for a bit then use her skills when her HP is about critical level. Also Warfarin and Aak too would greatly boost her performance although the application of Aak's S3 is during her shield proc phase than using it as initiation/prior to activating the skills.
first time on the channel, insanely intricate analysis, if i had to point something i find lacking is the "team role", like, yeah, it is a problem that she has 1 block and that can lead to leaks, but with a tank like shu behind her,things change very drastically, other than that nitpick, insane production value, looking forward to more!

S2 had good cycle with pallas s3, s3 with quercus s2 cycle could gave 0 downtime, s1 is just a hit or miss, if oneshot could be great at afk speedfarm + longer range,(yea only works on trashmobs and they usually comes in large numbers, and dont benefits her talent) works on a lane that gives one trashmob at a time and can be oneshotted by her charged s1

Because modules always buff Talents rather than skills, hopefully she can get stacking shields, guaranteed shields, or remove the melee restriction. Best case, they remove the restrictions on talents so she can be easier to use.
I mean to be fair, she can get better with modules, or not much can change. I will say I was surprised by Ho'oleyak's module making her a very decent support, so who knows maybe Viv will get the arts shred she needs or get the Mudrock treatment and have shields up for everything or potentially will get a small number boost to her passive.
My honest issue with Viviana Skill 3 is that it's a design conflict. It's wonderful for dueling. When active. Place Vivi somewhere you can guarantee it being up by then, and you can almost forget her. Outside of needing to activate her Skill, of course. Barring that, you need someone else to cover for her Off-Skill time. With her Priority and extra Range, it becomes extremely tempting to actually place her behind. Having someone behind her instead avoids that obvious problem, sure, but then you need some other way to filter the common enemies that would otherwise take priority while blocked by her. It's a very awkward position for a unit that is plagued by stark differences with or without active skill. But in an ideal environment or possibly even behind another operator and she works well enough. Maybe even amazingly. I just don't know if either are worth the investment. I am still tempted to raise her for S2 alone because she fills the niche of a defensive laneholder with solid enough Arts damage that is absent without a dedicated 6* Arts Defender.
Viviana got the same treatment as santalla. When they think shield is too op for a damage dealer that they give a lot of limitation it base on chances on attack, 1 stack and worst of all melee only, I swear if they remove this limitation on her that it has 2 stack higher chances and also block range attack Its not even worth it. Ifthe one that is lacking is her damage. I would rather have Physical and Arts dodge on her 1st talent and Crit attack than Increase attack and less damage taken.
I think the single worst thing about her is requiring a warmup cycle for her S3. It's not like it's an infinite duration skill, just let it be good on the first use!
Poor Viviana... her kit has too many restrictions and her skills also somehow have counter synergy with her talent. from the video we got: 1. She only gain bonus from talent 1 when against boss 2. She only gain shield if she hits boss 3. The shield cannot be stacked 4. The shield only blocks melee attack 5. S2 gain increased block count makes her shield wear down easily against multiple mob enemies who can unintentionally got blocked by her. 6. S2 need some hit to gain full aspd 7. S3 needs 2nd activation to be potent 8. S3 increases her attack interval somehow even though she needs attack speed to activate her talent. 9. Low skill duration. 10. Lacking any resistance shredding makes her damage fall against high resistance enemies (more than 16). Sadly the bosses that she is trying to duel usually has this high resistance stats. tell me another operator that has this many restrictions. i bet its only her. Even Amiya doesn't have this many restrictions on her.... conclusion: She is trying to be good offensively and defensively like any other art guards but becomes not good at both because of all the restrictions she has.
2 and 5 contradict themselves. The shield was designed to only block elite/bosses so that it doesn't get randomly popped by mobs when blocking with S2.

When a Shield is destroyed, deal % Arts explosion to the surrounding 4 tiles, if a Shield is destroyed when she has 3 stacks, consume all stacks and deal ++% Arts explosion in a diamond shape tiles surrounding her instead. *p.s. 5* Ritualist Gitano that makes Elafia ops deals elemental damage :copium:
11:23 seriously, why does AK *dedicated* ST DMG-Dealers (mostly melee) has lower or at most the same damage potential as multi-target DMG-Dealer *ON A SINGLE TARGET* This is also one of the reason most *dedicated* AoE (especially AoE casters) not that good.
Because early on they realized AoE damage is not a valuable trait in this game (look at artillery sniper or blast caster). So changing an attack from single target to AoE doesn't actually change the damage numbers on an operator (when they are designing a new operator).
It feels like they were way too afraid of releasing a 2nd Surtr and gave her a bunch of restrictions that do not make much sense. 1. S3 is good on 2nd activation but still nothing overpowered. So why then don't we just get it immediately? Why do we need 2 activations? Random restriction 2. Talent 1 can only fully activate against elite/bosses. Why not for normal mobs too? Is it overpowered to have it be good against mobs too? Aren't mobs supposed to be weaker anyway? Random restriction 3. Why make the shield melee only when there are elite/bosses that don't even have a melee attack? 4. Why make S2 chance based and also cap the ASPD steal to proc only 1 time? You would think only 1 of the 2 restrictions would be necessary to balance this skill, not both.
To all the doomsayers: She's better than any of my 5* arts guards. In terms of skills I like Viviana's S2 more because it's exactly long enough to kill two of the defenders on h7-2. It also scales with Heidi's S2 while S3 really relies on that second activation to become worth using
Problem is with her great survivability on skill, her damage is still quite lacking As seen in the video she can barely kill the hammer bro, let alone deal with the monsters in CC with 2819829192 debuffs and buffs

Honestly it wouldn't have killed HG to give her s3 infinite duration after 2nd use, preferably with some additional res ignore on top. By today's standards it wouldn't even be that great, but at least she could've become a good and usable unit with clear niche. But instead we got what we got... Well, at least i'm happy that i got Arturia first and not Vivi.
Frankly, just giving her 2 targets on S3 would've made a world of a difference in situations where mobs/other targets come down the same lane. Means she won't get distracted from the main target. It's part of why Surtr S3 is so nice, even ignoring the RES ignore diff.
S3 isn't just about doing damage though, it's also about crazy survivability that can effectively lock any melee enemy down that can't break her shields fast enough and kill her through her boosted defensive stats until the skill duration is up, so making that infinite duration would just trivialize some of the hardest hitting enemies by her sheer existence alone.

Vivi is actually a solid is4 pick since many of the stages have a "slow elite lane" there. Not that useful against any bosses there but still a great option
With stages like the slug spam and sheeps at the start, is she really a "solid" pick? Cause guards are only obtainable with medics and snipers I'd rather go with Gater, FedEx, or Hoe

Besides, if you're going to use Surtr against tough elites and bosses it's for carving a good amount of their hp while stalling them with her "immortality" or hitting them while they are stationary because the moment they reach her, their damage, plus her hp drain, will put her on the 60 second timer.
After watching this video I realised it's kind of stupid to NOT compare her with surtr because not only are they of the same archetype, 1.5 talent of Viviana are designed for dueling elite and boss enemies which surtr also specialises in Ah wait surtr specialises in killing boss enemies while Viviana specialises in dueling them so I guess that's the difference 😂 Honestly though it's kind of sad that even though surtr exixted HG still decided to give Viviana a elite specialised kit and they didn't even do much with her second talent like seriously only one shield and the shield doesn't even give Viviana anything on breaking like maybe a 5sec atkspd increase or something and she doesn't even have any res ignore so her damage becomes very weak against high res enemies I got her from a free pull in this event so I want to build her specially because I really like her e2 art Hope HG gives her a great module and makes her good atleast in general content

I didn't know her shields capped at 1. That makes her significantly weaker than I thought... Also, why the fuck doesn't S3's multi-hits avoid overkill? Is there any chance this is an oversight that might be patched?
DragonGJY plays on CN, so I'd assume he'd know if CN has patched this. So since he didn't mention it, either he didn't keep up to date with the CN changes to specific operators and Global also decided not to fix this (which, to be fair, isn't unlikely) or it hasn't been patched for 6 months
Waiting HG to drop a patch revealing a revamp for her 3rd skill that changed it so something like explosion. Maybe like mudrock third skill kinda thing
I got her with pot 5. Dont really want to build her since hg remove her nuke, one of the thing that i love about her, more over i already have aestesia as laneholder art guard. Great video tho. Vivi kit felt like a year 1 operator
Character-wise, Viviana is my favourite in the game. It's really sad how she received such a weak kit in a year of incredibly powerful operators. The S1 is a huge disappointment as well; even Guard Amiya performs better, and that's a free 5* 😮💨. Really good analysis, as always, on the flaws of her kit! For highlights, CC5 max risk was done on a private server with Viviana in the squad to tank the Hammer boss.

Can use 0.5 talents outside of her niche and her double effect on 1st talent only work in her atk range Duelist without outstanding skill. skill 1 bruh skill 2 somewhat decent but too low dps skill 3 need 2nd activate to be good for no reason. Maybe HG want to make her different from surtr but come on duelist that need 47s to be good after deploy ??

Ines's utility is better than Wisadel's raw strength in advanced content. Take away Ines from the game and you lose some of the most valuable DP generation, binding, and much more. Take away Wisadel and you still have a myriad of big number dealers - she might be the biggest and the best, but she still boils down to big numbers.

The problem isn’t that she’s bad, just look at lessing. The problem is that she should’ve been better. She’s added onto a list of now 3 ‘non-limited on limited banner’ ops. These kinds of operators, while more common than their limited counterparts, they don’t have rerun rate ups like other operators, and have to share their rate up with said limited op. It takes more effort to get them and you end up with the embodiment of mediocrity. Also like hoolheyak, she was a character people have been looking forward to as they’ve featured in previous events. Unfortunately they’re both mid.

I think Viviana's kit is not about using the skill asap but rather prolonging the fight for a bit then use her skills when her HP is about critical level.
Also Warfarin and Aak too would greatly boost her performance although the application of Aak's S3 is during her shield proc phase than using it as initiation/prior to activating the skills.
first time on the channel, insanely intricate analysis, if i had to point something i find lacking is the "team role", like, yeah, it is a problem that she has 1 block and that can lead to leaks, but with a tank like shu behind her,things change very drastically, other than that nitpick, insane production value, looking forward to more!
At that point you can use Zuo Le or Instructor and achieve similar if not better dps..

Reminder Vivian+Ifrit still have better dps than Surtr+Ifrit up to 74 res boss/elite. She is not a bad operator, just hard to use.

S2 had good cycle with pallas s3, s3 with quercus s2 cycle could gave 0 downtime, s1 is just a hit or miss, if oneshot could be great at afk speedfarm + longer range,(yea only works on trashmobs and they usually comes in large numbers, and dont benefits her talent) works on a lane that gives one trashmob at a time and can be oneshotted by her charged s1

Because modules always buff Talents rather than skills, hopefully she can get stacking shields, guaranteed shields, or remove the melee restriction. Best case, they remove the restrictions on talents so she can be easier to use.

I mean to be fair, she can get better with modules, or not much can change. I will say I was surprised by Ho'oleyak's module making her a very decent support, so who knows maybe Viv will get the arts shred she needs or get the Mudrock treatment and have shields up for everything or potentially will get a small number boost to her passive.

My honest issue with Viviana Skill 3 is that it's a design conflict. It's wonderful for dueling. When active. Place Vivi somewhere you can guarantee it being up by then, and you can almost forget her. Outside of needing to activate her Skill, of course. Barring that, you need someone else to cover for her Off-Skill time. With her Priority and extra Range, it becomes extremely tempting to actually place her behind. Having someone behind her instead avoids that obvious problem, sure, but then you need some other way to filter the common enemies that would otherwise take priority while blocked by her. It's a very awkward position for a unit that is plagued by stark differences with or without active skill. But in an ideal environment or possibly even behind another operator and she works well enough. Maybe even amazingly. I just don't know if either are worth the investment. I am still tempted to raise her for S2 alone because she fills the niche of a defensive laneholder with solid enough Arts damage that is absent without a dedicated 6* Arts Defender.

Viviana got the same treatment as santalla. When they think shield is too op for a damage dealer that they give a lot of limitation it base on chances on attack, 1 stack and worst of all melee only, I swear if they remove this limitation on her that it has 2 stack higher chances and also block range attack Its not even worth it. Ifthe one that is lacking is her damage. I would rather have Physical and Arts dodge on her 1st talent and Crit attack than Increase attack and less damage taken.
I think the single worst thing about her is requiring a warmup cycle for her S3. It's not like it's an infinite duration skill, just let it be good on the first use!

Poor Viviana... her kit has too many restrictions and her skills also somehow have counter synergy with her talent.
from the video we got:
1. She only gain bonus from talent 1 when against boss
2. She only gain shield if she hits boss
3. The shield cannot be stacked
4. The shield only blocks melee attack
5. S2 gain increased block count makes her shield wear down easily against multiple mob enemies who can unintentionally got blocked by her.
6. S2 need some hit to gain full aspd
7. S3 needs 2nd activation to be potent
8. S3 increases her attack interval somehow even though she needs attack speed to activate her talent.
9. Low skill duration.
10. Lacking any resistance shredding makes her damage fall against high resistance enemies (more than 16). Sadly the bosses that she is trying to duel usually has this high resistance stats.
tell me another operator that has this many restrictions. i bet its only her. Even Amiya doesn't have this many restrictions on her....
conclusion:
She is trying to be good offensively and defensively like any other art guards but becomes not good at both because of all the restrictions she has.
2 and 5 contradict themselves. The shield was designed to only block elite/bosses so that it doesn't get randomly popped by mobs when blocking with S2.

- Talent 2 ModY : When attacking elite or boss enemy, has a 23%/25% chance to gain a Shield that only blocks melee attacks (max 3 stacks). When a Shield is destroyed, deal % Arts explosion to the surrounding 4 tiles, if a Shield is destroyed when she has 3 stacks, consume all stacks and deal ++% Arts explosion in a diamond shape tiles surrounding her instead.

11:23 seriously, why does AK *dedicated* ST DMG-Dealers (mostly melee) has lower or at most the same damage potential as multi-target DMG-Dealer *ON A SINGLE TARGET*
This is also one of the reason most *dedicated* AoE (especially AoE casters) not that good.
Because early on they realized AoE damage is not a valuable trait in this game (look at artillery sniper or blast caster). So changing an attack from single target to AoE doesn't actually change the damage numbers on an operator (when they are designing a new operator).
i was so pissed when i got Viviana twice in 85 roles and no other 6 stars showed up >:0 literally only repeated 5 stars and that was it!
It feels like they were way too afraid of releasing a 2nd Surtr and gave her a bunch of restrictions that do not make much sense.
1. S3 is good on 2nd activation but still nothing overpowered. So why then don't we just get it immediately? Why do we need 2 activations? Random restriction
2. Talent 1 can only fully activate against elite/bosses. Why not for normal mobs too? Is it overpowered to have it be good against mobs too? Aren't mobs supposed to be weaker anyway? Random restriction
3. Why make the shield melee only when there are elite/bosses that don't even have a melee attack?
4. Why make S2 chance based and also cap the ASPD steal to proc only 1 time? You would think only 1 of the 2 restrictions would be necessary to balance this skill, not both.

To all the doomsayers: She's better than any of my 5* arts guards. In terms of skills I like Viviana's S2 more because it's exactly long enough to kill two of the defenders on h7-2. It also scales with Heidi's S2 while S3 really relies on that second activation to become worth using

Honestly it wouldn't have killed HG to give her s3 infinite duration after 2nd use, preferably with some additional res ignore on top. By today's standards it wouldn't even be that great, but at least she could've become a good and usable unit with clear niche. But instead we got what we got... Well, at least i'm happy that i got Arturia first and not Vivi.
Frankly, just giving her 2 targets on S3 would've made a world of a difference in situations where mobs/other targets come down the same lane. Means she won't get distracted from the main target. It's part of why Surtr S3 is so nice, even ignoring the RES ignore diff.
Or just not increase her attack interval for no reason.
Yeah, even if it was just +25s instead of making it to 25s, that would’ve drastically improved her even without any RES shred.
S3 isn't just about doing damage though, it's also about crazy survivability that can effectively lock any melee enemy down that can't break her shields fast enough and kill her through her boosted defensive stats until the skill duration is up, so making that infinite duration would just trivialize some of the hardest hitting enemies by her sheer existence alone.

Put her next to Skalter and Ifrit, and it feels like she's a permanent Surtr.
If you have skalter, you can just add nearl and a medic and you got a permanent surtr anyways

Besides, if you're going to use Surtr against tough elites and bosses it's for carving a good amount of their hp while stalling them with her "immortality" or hitting them while they are stationary because the moment they reach her, their damage, plus her hp drain, will put her on the 60 second timer.
Wonder if her lane could be a spotting game like ifrit&fartooth lane

Viviana skill is too poorly design,, they should just made her s1 have extra range without needing to charge, s2 infinite duration and s3 only prioritize blocking elite/boss enemies or even better, become unlimited duration after second activation.

DragonGJY plays on CN, so I'd assume he'd know if CN has patched this. So since he didn't mention it, either he didn't keep up to date with the CN changes to specific operators and Global also decided not to fix this (which, to be fair, isn't unlikely) or it hasn't been patched for 6 months

Why use stats on 0 trust when comparing archetypes?
Trust distribution is based on operator, the raw stat reflects the archetype design better.
Character-wise, Viviana is my favourite in the game. It's really sad how she received such a weak kit in a year of incredibly powerful operators. The S1 is a huge disappointment as well; even Guard Amiya performs better, and that's a free 5* 😮💨. Really good analysis, as always, on the flaws of her kit!

Ines's utility is better than Wisadel's raw strength in advanced content. Take away Ines from the game and you lose some of the most valuable DP generation, binding, and much more. Take away Wisadel and you still have a myriad of big number dealers - she might be the biggest and the best, but she still boils down to big numbers.
