Just catching up on watching videos now I have some free time whilst in Snowdonia. It must be a welcome change being in the cooler climate from Florida - I bet you can't wait for the Autumn colours! They don't peak until the start of November where I live- not easy being patient waiting for the colours to change!
Thanks for watching Russ! Yeah for summer temperatures, here are so much cooler than Florida. Actually, our low temperatures are very similar to what you have there, our daytime temperatures are much warmer than yours... But way cooler than Florida and the humidity is far far less! I just saw an update today that our peak autumn season should be the first or second week in October, but the southern part of West Virginia is at the very end of October. The autumn colors in the eastern part of the state will be at peak at the end of September due to the higher elevation. So I definitely have plenty of opportunity to photograph the autumn colors if I'm willing to drive around the state! Hope you're doing well, have a great week over there!
I am sure you will get that shot Paul, and it will be awesome with the Autumn colour, beautiful location, thanks as always for sharing and have a great week mate.
Thanks for watching John! I'm definitely going to get that shot. I just need to focus 😂 No distractions! But I'm glad I was able to have the practice that morning of photographing the moving train. In the past. The only train photos I've ever taken were long exposure, light trail images. I think I've got it down now! Just waiting for those autumn colors that should be hitting in just a few weeks! Hope you are doing well, have a great week up there!
Thanks so much Joy! As you know I'm waiting on pins and needles for the colors to change. They came out yesterday and said that they think peak season here will be the first or second week of October. We are already starting to see the first signs of autumn. I'm definitely trying to put together a list of go-to places every morning between now and then, this park being high on the list! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks as always for your support! Hope you're doing well, have a great week over there!
Cool house!!! Good job practicing patience 😊 it is going to be beautiful in the fall. The shot with the train was cool too. Thank you for taking us along for your day❣️
Thanks for watching Michelle! I'm going to do a follow-up video on that abandoned house. Since making the video, I've learned that it has a bit of a sinister history to it... It's not the beautiful old abandoned house that it appears to be! 😳 Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you both are doing well!
Enjoyed watching, that abandoned house looks incredible. Its a beautiful location you've moved to, that train photo will look incredible especially when the surrounding vegetation starts to change colour.
Thanks for watching Martin! West Virginia is a bit of a hidden gem here in the US. It has a bad reputation for being a hillbilly type place, but the landscape is unmatched in this part of the country and the people are as friendly as anywhere. We are absolutely in love with our new home! We're just starting to show the first signs of autumn. The leaves are expected to peak the second week in October, so it won't be long now! Glad you enjoyed the video and the images. Hope you're doing well, have a great week over there!
Just in from work and what do i get TRAINS ! lol Two hours thats a lot of hanging around, i think i too would struggle. That abandoned house looks very interesting, some nice shots of that, like you i would love a house like that especially in that location ! Im sure you will get the train image you are after and it will be all the more special for working hard for it. Keep safe mate, take care !
Hahaha that's how I used to feel about cooking at home after managing a restaurant 12 hours a day 😂 I'm going to do a follow-up video just on that house, because I've learned some interesting facts since then. Glad you enjoyed that part of it! I find myself splitting my time between landscape photography and abandoned photography since I've been here. So much of both to be explored! Thanks so much for watching mate! Hope you are well, have a great week over there!
@@paulcookphotography ah look forward to that, I do like the abandoned buildings and learning the history behind them, so looking forward to more of that !
Great video and shots Paul. I bet when those leaves go orange in another month you’ll be in photo paradise there. Even that waterfall surrounded by fall leaves will be amazing. Thanks for sharing mate 👍🙏
Thanks for watching Adrian! I'm trying to put together some kind of schedule right now so I can hit various locations that I've scouted at certain times with certain weather conditions 😂 again, I might be overthinking this a little 😂 But There will be ample opportunity for fall colors! We are already starting to show the first signs even though peak season here won't be until the first or second week of October. Glad you enjoyed the video and the images! Hope you are doing well, have a great week!
Hi Paul, what a lovely morning!! It’s so nice to see your local area, the park you weee in looks beautiful and I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun during autumn. The falls had great flow, I’m not surprised you stopped off to photograph them. Lots of variety in this one Paul, love the train too… lots of potential, I’m sure you’ll get that photo for above the couch. Thanks for sharing look forward to the next one. Take care Adele & Max 😊
Thanks for watching ladies! I'm glad you enjoyed the variety in this film. I felt like I was all over the place, except for the thing that I was actually there for 😂 That's definitely is a place that is high on my list for the upcoming autumn season. We are already starting to see the beginnings of fall with some of the younger trees already starting to turn. They are saying that our peak season should be the first or second week in October! So I will be out with my camera every morning between then and now! Thanks again for watching as always! Hope you both are doing well, have a wonderful week over there!
What an awesome looking house/mansion mate, spooky as, especially with the fog😀👻 Definitely perfect location for a horror movie! Nice shots & liked the waterfall images too. Looking forward to seeing more shots at this location once fall colours appear, gonna be epic I’m sure! Enjoy the rest of your week buddy!
Thanks for watching mate! I'm probably going to do the follow-up video on that abandoned house because I've since learned some very interesting facts about it. It has a little bit more history to it than just being a beautiful old house! Glad you enjoyed The images from the park. Autumn is definitely showing its first signs here, although they say peak season won't be until the first or second week of October. Hope you're doing well down there, have a great weekend!!
Of the waterfalls images, 2 and 3 are the ones I like most. As for the train image, I'm sure that you will get THE one in the fall. I'm assuming that as the weather gets cooler, there'll be more demand for the coal. And hence, more train action in either direction...maybe 🤔?
Thanks for watching Gene! I think that's a pretty good assumption that the train will run more often as we get closer to winter and the weather gets colder. Best I can tell right now, the train comes through fully loaded between 8:00 a.m. a.m. And 10:00 a.m. every morning. So I just need to plan to be there early and just wait for it... And Not to get distracted by other things 😂 Glad you enjoyed it! I hope you're doing well, have a great week!!
I love your thoughts on fall colours, train and fog! And how cool was that old home, gave me Psycho vibes! You’re far more patient that me, I’m not sure I could wait 2 hours!
Thanks for watching mate! Glad you enjoyed it. I'll definitely get the train when the fall colors hit, the fog would be icing on the cake, but I'll take just the train and autumn leaves. I might do a follow up on that house, I've found out some very interesting information about it after I made the video! Hope you are doing well pal, have a great week down there!
The waterfall at 8:42 is beautiful! I agree with your assessment of the rock(s) and the white spray. The train image is great too. You must feel like a kid in a candy store with the variety of things to photograph.
Thanks Jim! A kid in a candy store is right! I find myself having to plan out what kind of photography I'm going to do here based on the conditions, but it's nice to have the variety! Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you and Michelle are doing good!
An enjoyable vlog to watch but a frustrating one for you to make Paul! The last image of the waterfall was the one I most liked. When you get fog, autumnal trees and a train at the same time I'm sure it will be an image worth waiting for. Take care.
Thanks for watching Deryck! I think I'm hoping for just a little too much to get fog, Autumn, and the train going through at the same time. I would settle for autumn and the train! Glad you like the last image of the waterfall, that was my favorite as well. Using a wide angle on that scene just didn't quite work. We are starting to show the first signs of Autumn now, but they say the peak won't be until the first or second week of October. When is your peak season over there? Hope you're doing well, have a wonderful week!
@@paulcookphotography Unfortunately our summer has been a bit of a non starter around my neck of the woods and I don’t think nature knows what to do! We’re having temperatures this week in the 20’s C, something we didn’t get in July and August.
Another great video Paul - I'm loving West Virginia. Of the waterfall pics, my fave was the second vertical one. Also really liked the train shot, but my faves of the day were the abandoned house ones. Looking forward to the next one. 😊
I'm thinking of doing a follow up video just on that abandoned house because I've learned a little bit of information on it since making the video. Turns out it's not just the beautiful,.old abandoned house on the hill, something a bit more sinister.,..but I need to do a little bit more research first. Glad you enjoyed it mate. Have a great week over there!
Great video, Paul. That Abandoned house looked awesome, I'd have definitely got shots of that too. I'm so looking forward to Autumn and it looks like you have the perfect place to photograph it this year. Shame you didn't get the train shot you wanted, but the one you did get was great. Hope you're doing great, mate. Take it easy, Paul🖖
Thanks for watching David! Yeah that house is cool, and as I mentioned, it's got a little more history to it than just being a beautiful house. Trying to do some research on it now to make for a better video. We're definitely seeing the very beginnings of autumn here, but they say peak season won't be until the first or second week of October. I'm definitely impatiently waiting 😂 Glad you enjoyed it mate! Hope you're doing well, have a great weekend over there!
Distracted by a waterfall... loved it matey, I think we have all been there 😂. I thought the train image turned out great and kudos for you waiting for two hours, that's dedication (or stubbornness right there 😂). I'm pretty sure you'll get your print soon (if it's above a sofa I don't think you would notice the grain from a shot at ISO800 - especially if you have it printed on a matt rag paper as it can be very forgiving). Hope you are all well... have a great week Paul 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for watching Izzy! And thanks for the advice on the printing/ high ISO. I've done quite a few prints, but to be honest, they've only been of images between 100 and 400 ISO. Good to hear that it should be fine at 800. Glad you enjoyed the train image! I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, was just hoping for a train that was fully loaded with coal. Next time for sure! No distractions! Focus 😂 Glad you enjoyed it mate! Hope you are doing well, have a great week down there!
Paul I'm sure you'll find your feet in West Virginia, it will take a little time to scout all these locations and find out the train times. It's going to look fantastic in Autumn/Fall. I can understand being distracted by waterfalls, nothing wrong with that! That house looks like it will make for a great Halloween video. Interesting the difference between the UK and USA re: respecting trespass laws. We have lots of urban exploration videos filmed over here where people enter properties like that. In the UK trespass is a civil action rather than a criminal one so most folk get away with it. We also don't have many landowners with firearms either 😂
Thanks for watching Andrew! I feel like I'm really hitting my stride with my woodland images, and I've got some pretty good waterfall images so far, but the train keeps getting the best of me for now. Next visit though will be solely for the train, I won't be leaving that bridge 😂 Yeah you guys are consider yourselves pretty lucky with you access rights over there. You have to be pretty careful over here. Who knows what you will find on the inside and if you're on somebody's private property...well, you know 😳 Thanks for watching! Hope you're doing well, have a great week over there!
That’s an impressive house. Someone must have the money to sort it out and make memories in it once again. Nice work on waiting 2hrs. Don’t think I would of stuck at it but I’m sure if anyone can get a train in fog it’s you.
Thanks for watching mate! Glad you enjoyed that house! I might do a follow up video on it, I've found out some really cool information on it after I made the video!!I'll definitely get the train shot, not sure about the fog, I'd be just as happy with the train loaded with coal and autumn colors. Hope you are doing well over there! Have a great week!
Fogy morning start, lets go!. That old house looks really cool, although it looks haunted lol. The waterfall shot of portrait orientation looked better for me mate. Great to see you had patience to wait for that train man. This location will be even more amazing in fall colours, talk soon brother.
Thanks for watching mate! Yeah, we get some form of fog here about 4-5 days per week (at least here in the summer), but some days are really heavy. I have a video coming out today, it's a follow up about that abandoned house. I think you'll enjoy that one. I get a bit closer to the house and found out some more information about it that you might find interesting. Thanks for watching mate, always appreciate it,! Chat soon!
Great video. I see what you mean about the colour of the water. I've missed loads of trains despite having access to realtraintimes tracking app. Looking forward to your autumn photos and video 😊
Thanks for watching Andrew! Best I can tell, the train comes through loaded with coal fairly early every morning. I've not missed it three times between the times of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. So I think that should be the time frame that I focus on! We are starting to see the first signs of autumn with peak season being the first or second week of October, so it won't be long now! Hope you are doing well, have a great week over there!
Great video, Paul. I love the photo of the old house (2:18) with the vines on the side. Fantastic park. It is great that it is close enough so you can access it easily. The last image of the waterfall (7:42) is my favorite. I'm sure you will capture the shot of the train in the fall.
Thanks for watching John, glad you enjoyed it! Follow-up video on that old house as I have learned some new, interesting facts about it since filming the video! Yes, Valley Falls is pretty easy to access for me. About a 40 minute drive, pretty much a straight shot. I'm glad you enjoyed the waterfall shot, the wide angle was frustrating me so I'm glad the ones with long lens turned out better! Hope you're doing well, have a great week! Chat soon!
I liked the waterfall shot myself. I do mostly black and white so I sometimes watch videos in black and white as I did in this one. The waterfall shots looked really nice in monochrome. There was nice contrast between the trees, the dark rocks and the water. You may find if you go back and watch your videos in black and white from time to time, you find things for future shots you like. Even in the piece to camera about 9:30, I thought the curse in the train tracks through the trees would make a nice BW shot. Just a thought. By the way, I have an appreciation for how you are immersing yourself in your new state. I am in the SC mountains. A lot of New York and New Jersey people are moving here and rather than attempting to understand and appreciate our culture, they want to change ours to theirs. It is really annoying.
Thanks for watching Philip! I rarely do b&w, and anytime I do it is kind of an afterthought unfortunately but I do like your suggestions. I agree, some of those shots might look pretty good in b&w! My mother has said the same thing about SC...she says that a lot of the new residents near her are from the NE and said that they don't have any interest in anything other than making it a NEW- New York or NJ. Personally, I feel like I have a lot of catching up on the history of my new state, so I'm just going to throw myself right into it! Glad you are enjoying it, as am I! Hope you are doing well, have a great week!!
"Overthinking something"? I laughed out loud at that! Shame you can't tap into the actual train schedule somehow but it's a great goal to work on. I agree that you need the coal cars. Fall shots there should really be something so I'm looking forward to seeing those.
My brain was fried from overthinking that shot 😂 It turns out it wasn't quite as difficult as I was making it out to be, of course. I asked the park ranger if there was a schedule available for the train. He said he didn't think so that I would have to contact the company, CSX, but he didn't think one would be available. On my next visit, I'm not leaving that bridge! I'll be ready, no distractions! 😂 Thanks so much for watching! Hope you're doing well, have a great week!!
Loving the vibe from these videos in your new home state. I’m curious what elevation you’re at. Ky autumn is about two months away at 600 feet elevation and about 5 weeks away at 1,000 feet.
Thanks for watching Jim! I'm glad you are enjoying the videos! I'm definitely enjoying making them again. My house sits almost exactly at 1,000 ft above sea level and they are saying that peak autumn colors will be the first or second week in October. A little bit earlier the more east you go from here. A few trees are showing the very beginnings right now, but we still have a little ways to go. Thanks again for watching! Hope you are doing well. Have a great week!!
Did you ever see that film/mini-series version of Salems Lot with David Soul? That sure does look like the house from it.....well that or Psycho as somebody else mentions. Onto the waterfalls, as you asked my preference, I'll tell ya, probably the vertical shot of the waterfall with the tuft of grass centred above, tend to agree with you about the distraction that the white gives off. Anyhow, the problem with You Tube is that it spoils the fantasy.....that rail road, I've seen your shots from it before and, from those photographs, imagined a middle of nowhere track running through a vast forest that you've clambered and climbed for hours to find and you're elevated on this rickety old Temple of Doom style rope bridge.....video ruins the imagination haha Good to catch up with your adventures mate, speak soon.
While I didn't have to hike miles and miles to get to my location through terrible terrain, the drive there in the morning is absolutely terrifying. It's dark and foggy, curvy mountain roads, fighting car sickness, and wondering if the deer that line the sides of the road are going to jump out in front of me. The drive alone, with a GoPro strapped to the front of the car, might be interesting enough for a video! I definitely remember the miniseries Salem lot! So I've learned some interesting facts about that house since making this video. I might have to do a follow-up video because there's a bit more sinister history to it then just being a beautiful old abandoned house 😳 Glad you enjoy the video mate, thanks as always for watching and commenting! Hope you and yours are doing well, have a great weekend over there!
Theres an old country manor about 2 miles from me ( i bet thats shocking to you 😂), Winbdlestone Hall. It was fraudulently bought by a scammer a few years ago. But the estate he bought it from has no living heirs to retake the property. It's fallen into absolute disrepair now and the local authority can't determine whos responsibility it is. It was the home of the form PM Anthony Eden
That sounds really amazing mate... Maybe sometimes you can get out there and get some photos of That old country manner... In the fog!!! I would love to see that!
