It must be a welcome change from the florida heat to new surroundings to explore, especially with five state parks. That location has a similar vibe to Snowdonia, with the rain, river, and pine trees. Have a great time exploring over the coming years. Be careful of the slippery rocks. I often use my tripod in place of a hiking stick, using it as a third leg when clambering over rocks.
Thanks for watching Russ! I've been to northern Wales a few times and West Virginia does remind me of that. It gets hot here, but not like Florida. On any given day it is 15-20 degrees cooler than Florida which is a significant difference in the summer heat. Funny you mentioned tripods...the only thing I hurt in that slip and fall was my tripod. I was using a cheaper tripod, and I snapped one of the bottom legs right off. Better that than breaking my own leg though! Hope you are doing well and having a great weekend!

There are some amazing hiking trails and loads of beautiful trees to photograph. Rivers, waterfalls, woodlands, lakes...it has everything except the ocean. I do plan to take periodic trips to the sea though. Good to see you out and about again, especially in a new setting. Re safety, a lot is about common sense. One tip I give, especially coming down hills, is don't walk and look at the views. See where you feet are going. I have seen many people slip because of not concentrating. I am looking forward to seeing how your compositions develop with so much scope in your new hope. Great to see you out shooting again Paul! That's a beautiful park with loads of potential. You've got some nice shots today and I'm sure lots more to come over the next few months. Be careful climbing on those rocks! That looks like a lot of the rivers and streams that I shoot here in Nova Scotia. Those rocks can be very slippery and sometimes unstable - even tho they might look huge. I've stepped on a few huge boulders and found out they were very tippy because they were basically balancing on other rocks. Too bad it was so crowded there that day! 😂 Keep up the good work and enjoy your exploring. Cheers!

Thanks mate! It came down to West Virginia vs. Maine in our places to move. Maine lost out because it's just a bit too rugged and remote. West Virginia is pretty remote as well, but not too far from bigger population areas in case we need it. Definitely enjoying the small town feel though and of course the amazing natural beauty! It's true that it is pretty economically depressed because of the loss of coal jobs, that is the unfortunate reality. But it had everything we were looking for...lower cost of living than Florida, slower way of life, friendly people, and of course natural beauty. JoAnna just signed her new teaching contract with the school district and will be able to make a positive impact here. We couldn't be happier and the new house is coming along nicely. Great shots paul , that place will be a goldmine the more time you spend there. If you can find a Columbia Outlet near you they have great affordable outdoor gear. Travel light and stay prepared out in the woods. All Trails Pro is a lifesaver for navigating areas like that. And how nice it must have been to be all alone out there. Hey Paul Nice new video from your new home base in W Virginia. Always a challenge to adapt to new environment/conditions and picture taking style. You got some beautiful first results this time. I like you don't over do the shutter speed and smood out the water movement. It might be artistic those white smears off water but i like the more realistic flow at shorter shutter speeds. I have a feeling every waterfall photographs differently, just like beaches, and it isn't a one-size fits all approach. Thanks mate! It is a dream spot as far as I'm concerned. There is just beauty everywhere. Mountains, hills, rivers, waterfalls, plus all of the abandoned/derelict type stuff I like to shoot! I went out today and definitely was a lot more safe with hiking boots, bear spray, and coated myself to protect against ticks. Definitely not as easy as t-shirt, shorts, and no shoes 😂 I still drive barefoot though! Glad you enjoyed it pal, I'll be messaging you soon. Things are finally calming down around here now with the move.

Thanks for watching John! This is the closest of the state parks to my house, so I imagine I'll be spending quite a bit of time there. What I showed you in this video is just a small part of it. There are some amazing hiking trails and loads of beautiful trees to photograph. Rivers, waterfalls, woodlands, lakes...it has everything except the ocean. I do plan to take periodic trips to the sea though. You can take the seascape photographer out of the ocean, but you can take the ocean out of the seascape photographer 😂 But plenty more to come from WV and surrounding states like Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kentucky, and North Carolina! Good to see you out and about again, especially in a new setting. Re safety, a lot is about common sense. One tip I give, especially coming down hills, is don't walk and look at the views. See where you feet are going. I have seen many people slip because of not concentrating. I am looking forward to seeing how your compositions develop with so much scope in your new hope. My mind is on overload with the new sights and sounds, so that was definitely a big part of why I fell. So much to get used to. Paul great to see you back on TH-cam in your new home state! We moved from Northern Minnesota to Tucson, Arizona, ten years ago., so I understand the challenge of learning a new environment. As for the black bears and most critters, they really do not want anything to do with humans. Keep up the excellent work, and I look forward to more vedios on West Virginia.

I've watched countless videos on them now and they all say the same thing...that they just want to be left alone and it's best not to surprise them (make noise). It has some of the most beautiful scenery in the eastern US, but it has a relatively low population compared to surrounding states. Fine by me! We just received two cans of bear spray this morning from Amazon. Between the noise makers and the spray, that should give us a little bit more peace of mind while out hiking in the wilderness. Great to see you out shooting again Paul! That's a beautiful park with loads of potential. You've got some nice shots today and I'm sure lots more to come over the next few months. Be careful climbing on those rocks! That looks like a lot of the rivers and streams that I shoot here in Nova Scotia. Those rocks can be very slippery and sometimes unstable - even tho they might look huge. I've stepped on a few huge boulders and found out they were very tippy because they were basically balancing on other rocks. Too bad it was so crowded there that day! 😂 Keep up the good work and enjoy your exploring. Cheers!

Thanks mate! It came down to West Virginia vs. Maine in our places to move. Maine lost out because it's just a bit too rugged and remote. West Virginia is pretty remote as well, but not too far from bigger population areas in case we need it. Definitely enjoying the small town feel though and of course the amazing natural beauty! I do have a parka from when we traveled to Maine a couple of years ago. One thing I can't get used to is wearing shoes. I've gone barefoot a lot of my life in Hawaii, California, and Florida. It's true that it is pretty economically depressed because of the loss of coal jobs, that is the unfortunate reality. But it had everything we were looking for...lower cost of living than Florida, slower way of life, friendly people, and of course natural beauty. JoAnna just signed her new teaching contract with the school district and will be able to make a positive impact here. We couldn't be happier and the new house is coming along nicely. Great shots paul , that place will be a goldmine the more time you spend there. If you can find a Columbia Outlet near you they have great affordable outdoor gear. Travel light and stay prepared out in the woods. All Trails Pro is a lifesaver for navigating areas like that. And how nice it must have been to be all alone out there. Always a challenge to adapt to new environment/conditions and picture taking style. You got some beautiful first results this time. I like you don't over do the shutter speed and smood out the water movement. It might be artistic those white smears off water but i like the more realistic flow at shorter shutter speeds. I have a feeling every waterfall photographs differently, just like beaches, and it isn't a one-size fits all approach. I was reading yesterday that there are no less than 35 pretty decent waterfalls throughout the state, all within 2 hours of here....so plenty to explore! Thanks mate! It is a dream spot as far as I'm concerned. There is just beauty everywhere. Mountains, hills, rivers, waterfalls, plus all of the abandoned/derelict type stuff I like to shoot! I went out today and definitely was a lot more safe with hiking boots, bear spray, and coated myself to protect against ticks. Definitely not as easy as t-shirt, shorts, and no shoes 😂 I still drive barefoot though! Glad you enjoyed it pal, I'll be messaging you soon. Things are finally calming down around here now with the move.
