I have a hard time connecting with most of todays pros.. gone are the Mike Siegal’s Earl Strickland’s, Minnesota Fats, and Steve Mizeracks, That were great entertainers as much as they were great pool players. . Making the crowd apart of the game and still shooting lights out. Efren wasn’t a talker, but he had a silent charisma about him, and the occasional smile and dance. That said, I really like SVB. What a talent that guy is, and like Efren, he is quiet, but has a silent charisma as well. Not to mention the best break in pool history in my opinion

pool still requires great eye sight, amazing coordination. the ability to get the body to do what the brain wants. that is very comparable to basketball and tennis, so get off your high horse you fake ronald mcdonald.

1:01:43 is one of the most incredible shots I've ever seen, if not the one. I wouldn't think that it's humanly possible to make such a shot. And to make it in competition, against someone as formidable as Van Boening is extra special, because if you give Van Boening anything chances are you'll lose the match. Efren truly deserves the nickname "the magician." To me he's the GOAT. Perhaps Van Boening is beginning to show a little bit of age here, compared to his younger years.

I have been watching a whole lot of Efren videos & even had the honor of seeing him play in person..from what i think,after the break he does not plan ahead for the next 3 balls but planned a mental layout for all the balls..his brain seem to work similar to a GPS..true legend

I didn't watch the whole match yet but the best shot I have seen is the 2nd shot of the match by Efren back cutting the 1 ball. Many people don't know how difficult that is. I practice that shot occasionally and can make it about 2 for 10 but I have never made it from that far from the pocket. Also there is masse involved and at that distance the calculations and experience necessary are phenomenal. Also I don't think Shane thought he would attempt it. Bet SB never did it again.

We love to imagine a contest between champions of a different generation. For example, Mike Tyson vs Mohammed Ali, both in their prime. Or Efren Reyes vs Willie Mosconi. I think right here we're seeing two champions of different generations compete, though Efren isn't squarely in his prime he is shooting very close to it at an old age. I think Shane is a generational champion of champions, and he will beat Efren in the future should they meet. But Efren's legacy is so solid. And his superior tactics, knowledge and ease at the table puts him at least one level above Shane, IMO.
Comparing Efren to Shane is like comparing Jordan to Irving, Muhammad Ali to Canelo. Don't get me wrong, Shane is good but not Reyes good. Shane hasn't even done a tenth of what Reyes has done in the sport.(been a fan of the sport for over 3 decades)
First shot of this match for Shane, he mindless makes a push just like, " Eh, what could he possibly do with a cross table, almost frozen rail one ball shot?' Instantly pockets it and runs. You can tell he instantly is rattled because next rack he comes up to table and misses the 2 ball shot and blinks he is down 4 to 0. He then always seems to have a hard shot and you can tell he starts hammering the balls a little more than usual leaving himself harder shots then he could and "shot makes" his way back to tie it up. When 7 to 5 he makes the two rail kick on the 3 ball after a beautiful safety from Shane, and thats it. Just magic. All you can do is laugh at what he consistently does. This match is a master class.
i do. the reason why i know how to appreciate shots like that. it's a stroke you do during practice, only a handful dare do it in an actual match, you try it an it's not guaranteed you'll get repaid. but perhaps you're a pro who thinks that tough shot is merely routine so....

I was staying a few nights in Ermita. Next to my hotel was One Side Billiards. I went up there for a few drinks and I saw Efren Reyes playing this white guy, who I later learned is possibly the greatest American pool player ever. It was a game I never heard of, one pocket. I did talk to Shane later that night, nice guy. And I got Efren to shake my hand.

Bata Reyes made 3 balls with kick shots in this match, amazing, nobody is so consistent in kicking balls with that precision.
