      USA pool is in trouble because you have to be 21 to play. I used to have all kinds of trouble playing tournaments. I used to get kicked out at 10 even when you are in the tournament still. Europe have actual pool schools and youth player have a place to play and compete without laying low

    The difference between changing the rules in pool vs baseball is that a good offense in pool can stop the other player from getting to play at all, but in baseball, both teams are getting a chance to play equal time. In equal time, more scoring is more fun. But with pool, it can take the fun out of the game if only one person gets to play.

      Well Doug I believe one thing left out of most sports over the last 3 decades is sportsmanship, Earl is as good as anyone playing, no one said he wasn’t a great player, but when your disruptive by jawing constantly, and this is my personal opinion, someone should standup and say shut-up!

    • @dougoverhoff7568
      @dougoverhoff7568 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wylieyates6174 I agree, sportsmanship in today's competitive sports is somewhat lacking, as are so many other personal attributes in today's society. People just don't show the respect to their elders, to women, even for themselves, and just in general, not like they did when I was growing up in the 50's. But, I think if you would ask most of those who compete against Strickland, that you would likely find that he is a generally pretty likeable, affable person, and doesn't do his so-called 'antics' in an effort to distract, or even much less to try to shark, his opponents. He is a very competitive person, who is maybe a little too high strung, but that doesn't make him a bad person, nor does it require him to be sanctioned in any way. In fact, that drive and those personality traits are part of what has lead to his exemplary status as one of the most talented and accomplished players in the game. You don't have to like him, in order to appreciate his abilities. And frankly, I doubt that he really cares if you do, or not. Before Efren came along he was the most dominant player in the game. He's a hall of fame player, and rightfully so. And, if he was to be removed from the scene, it would be pool's loss. Deal with it.

    Awww, US pride is strong here but sadly, there's no single spectator in sight! Never mind, I'm rooting for my idol, the current US champion Shane Van Boening! 😎

      The seating arrangements were such that the bulk of spectators were not on camera. There was stadium type seating with plenty of spectators.

    Strickland is a very aggressive player. However, being a friend of the late Danny Medina I would say Danny was even more aggressive that Earl.

    I don't mind watching a good game of pool or watching Earl Strickland shoot a good game. What is bad is listening to Earl's big mouth. He will ruin a good game by not keeping his mouth shut.

    Doug,
    I agree fully that he is one of the best players alive, and I never intended to say he was a bad or raunchy person. I’ve seen him interviewed and comes across as a genuine person. But at the table and when sitting it’s non-stop comments, which I feel is distracting to his opponents. It also could be that my past sports experience denotes quiet when someone is playing. A small show of respect.

      He does that to psych the opponents but all Shane has to do is turn his hearing aids off. It's all part of the game if your playing at this caliber I promise you will know the game of all the top 50 players. Earls got his banter, Shaw has his show boat hard hitting and acting like it's the match when only a game. Efren Reyes smiling scratching his head on mistakes like he met too. It's all part of the game and dogging on one and not all is truly a show of inexperienced lack of knowledge.

    I finally want to stick-up for Earl when Shane was shooting at the six. When he missed it, he then has to stand at the table and see how he left Earl. When you miss, walk away, it's Earl's table. This is at 1:27:18
