These are two of the nicest guys that ever played the game! They like and respect each other! Nick Varner was winning everything from 88 to 90. Efren didn't start winning major tournaments until 7 or 8 years later! Then he has dominated pool Both great great players!! They have played many many great matches.
This is the closest match I have seen of Efren. But, I always hold Efren as the All Time Greatest Player. He has the extraordinary skill, unbelievable humbleness that shows that apart from his skill, he also had the rare wisdom which had helped him at the most difficult period in a tough match situations.

Per the WPA scorecard, Nick has beaten Efren in just under 50% of their meetups although Efren won the bigger matches. It’s okay to be a fanboy, just make sure your love for a player doesn’t overshadow the facts or distort who o other players are.

Some are, and undoubtedly it is part of their 'act' e.g. CJ Wiley, and even to an extent Earl (he could back it up) but most people in the pool world have long since learned total respect for what Efren could do. Nick Varner aka Kentucky General would have been well aware of the abilities of the Magician by the time this event took place and respected them. I thank you for posting the video because I wasn't there to see it in person. However you don't need to.manufacture an opponent being arrogant to portray Efren's genius. Just keep posting new and unique footage of the maestro and we'll keep watching. Sure, anytime Efren got one over on a disrespectful clown its great, but 99% of people knew and wanted the challenge only Efren can provide, and continues to provide in his older years.

I assume you're only talking about 9 ball here. A few of these guys are almost exclusively 9 ball players. And Reyes isn't the best 9 ball player of all time, Strickland has a good argument for that. But all disciplines Reyes is the best.

I think Sigel (and maybe Strickland and Souquet) had the edge over Efren in 9 ball. But very likely that Reyes had the best won/loss overall in big money games. Reyes once stated that he considered Sigel the best of all time in 9 ball.
I really like the editing, though this match could be more than an hour long, the uploader gave us only less than 20 min without cutting out the match. Saves me a lot more time to watch more Efren matches 😅. Thanks uploader, please upload more (I also like the music after each rack)🎉
Excellent match. Efren is kind of the GOAT in pool. Willie Mosconi ran 527 balls in a televised match in 1964 playing straight pool which will NEVER be broken. Outside of straight Efren is DEFINITELY the GOAT of anything else on a pool table. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the GOAT of snooker. I am Philly from Philly in the USA

Varner made a good runout to tie it up then tough shape on the 7 on case game and tried a tough cut and sold out. Most players these days would’ve just played safe.

This guy Reyes looks like a guy we played against in Sydney Australia in early January 2000. He beat us playing with one hand and only allowed to sink cannon shots.
I played Efren in 2017; the game was the best three out of five in nine ball (race to three). Of course he beat me and I enjoyed it. - - - If you are ever in the Huntsville Alabama area just stop by Steve's Cue and Grill - - - as you walk in you will see a picture of Efren and I on the left just outside the entrance of my cue repair shop - - - I'm there every week, if I'm not in my shop just walk up to the bar and look to your right - - - I am normally setting at the first table having coffee or unsweetened tea if I am not teaching someone how to shoot pool - - - if you shoot pool, since I own all the Diamond pool tables in the bar, the table time will be on me and I will let you break!
I find it interesting that Efron matches are celebrated when he knocks off a champion. How about showing all the times he lost? Which is a lot. Like the 9 to 2 slaughter against Earl Strickland in the world championship final. You could have a thumbnail that shows Earl looking at Efron “who are you again?”
Although not very consistent, Varner was a decent player. He was very lucky to play in the era of mediocrity. In my top 100, he’s somewhere between 80-100

There are many many great players , Willie Mosconi record of 526 straight pool in 1954 held for 65 years.
