Awesome vid, just fitted a short shifter to my NA, and it was as easy as it looks in the video. I would have messed it up without this!🙂👍 Only thing I'd add:- 1. put the car in gear before starting the process to make old oil easier to extract. 2. get a liquid soap with pump dispenser, and use the pump to extract the old oil before refilling, it is way easier than other methods I tried (turkey baster, paper tissue etc)
Excellent timing mate! I'd just ordered my rebuild kit from mx5parts when this turned up! Thanks. Btw sorry to hear you've been having health issues. Take care and get well soon.
why does my new short shifter not go in the turret, it just wont slot in.. (the car is 100% in neutral and i can slot it in with the old shifter just not the new one)
@@nickross8950 I think I either just didn’t put the spacer in or I cut the groove into it for the second pin and just chucked it in there, the official way I think is that you’re able to knock the second pin out and then it’ll be fine from there but I couldn’t. My shifter works but spins and feels wrong, plus my 2nd gear synchro is going so I’ve managed to get my hands on a mk1 gearbox now and I’ll just buy a new short shifter kit and do it properly. P.s MK2 mx5 gearboxes have two pins in the turret and mk1s only have one.
Well in other videos iv seen people breaking parts of the gearbox fitting the kit upside down or just not fitting parts at all and then blaming the manufacturer so in mine all parts are fitted and nothing is broken 👌
Best walk through I've seen for this. Everyone else makes cuts in their videos of the parts I wanted to know about the most. Thank you!
Glad to see this video is still relevant and helping people thanks for the kind words 🙏
Thank you brother, the only clear instructions I've found out there. Worked like a charm!

Yes that's great a soap hand pump is an amazing idea and I imagine so much cleaner 👌👌
Dont know why but bofi racing short shifter kit with its shifter and pivot ball bush doesnt fit in my nb 5 speed
Top notch vid!, fitted in 10 mins and works a treat. :)

I couldn't believe how much there quick shift kit was but I do use them often for parts 👍
appreciate your gentle care of how you did this for everyone. Lovely. Take care.
Thank you glad it's of help to you 😁
Nice shirt shifter supporting from Las Vegas
what was the thread pitch of the new short shifter as my oem knob doesn't fit my short shifter!
I'm not sure on the pitch as I fitted and aftermarket knob

Bruh me too been trying fir like half hour
@@OliMツdid you figure that out? I’m tryna do this process soon
You couldve just popped off the top part of shifter to install the rubber boot and thread it back in when boot is screwed down lol
The vibration washer is to prevent the stud backing off, since it's under tension.
I was just about to explain him as well lol "I don't see the point of anti-vibration washers...." kinda it's in the title mate
@@renatotoze Some people are so dumb, their parents were still swinging through the trees!
I have an issue where mine keeps pooping out of the shifter gear bushing
Wow that's not good i I'm still using mine everyday and it's taking the punishment 👍👍
And my old bush doesn't have slots for the spring, so I use the new one, then I can use the only one around the shifter
Great video, how come you didn't seal anything?
Well good question 🤔 which part would you of sealed 👌
@@RetroCarsReborn between the tower and spacer, tower is full of oil, that's not something I'd want to have to fill regularly.
Don't tip the car over, you should be fine.
A lot of shaft and knob in this video lol Nice one :D
Looks loada better with the new black n red gear knob mate
Short shifter better for racein 👍😉😉
very well done, sorry to hear about your heart issue that’s very scary. i know this video is older and you’re far past it but i hope all is well.
@rice hickory thank you very much for the love much appreciated I will let you know that the quick shift kit is still working great to 🤣🤣
you pushed that rubber boot to low on it
My turret has two pins, so the spacer won't fit.
Were you able to figure out a solution to this?

I've seen this kit installed so many different ways all claiming it's the right way. Lol. So what is the correct way if they all claim it works? 😕

That rollbar aint going to do anything for you if you roll
Not a truer word sed 🤣🤣 but I don't plan on being upside-down in it 😁
Bro why do you yap so much, a thirty minute video for what should be 10 minutes
