I think Zhang deserves a title shot against Usyk honestly. I would love to see that fight, and I love Usyk, but Zhang would be a huge test for him.

Joyce was so conditioned to Zhang's straights in the first fight and the first two rounds. Then, boom, a cross (wasn't even a hook)! Sayonara.
Joyce's chin was always a bit of a myth. He got stopped 3 times as an amateur in his late 20s, twice getting knocked out in the first round (by AJ and Sergey Kuzmin respectively). Zhang is the first fighter he's been in with who has world class KO power in both hands, and he got stopped twice.
As for Hrgovic: the issue there was the cards were too wide. Zhang gassed HORRIBLY mid rounds and never recovered. I had it 114-113 Hrgovic. Coukd have gone either way. People got very emotional because Zhang did much better than expected.
All of that said, for the first 5 or 6 rounds Zhang is a very, very big problem. He needs to cling for dear life to that mandatory position because nobody else is touching him with a bargepole.
Retirement talk is not ridiculous. As Ade says he style involves taking a lot of punishment, he is 38 and the real big money fights are now gone. Maybe the risk (CTE)/reward (Money) ratio no longer makes sense
Absolutely agree, look at joyce's last 5 fights, took heavy punishment (especially in early rounds) and finally now he's been cracked. For his health he should consider no more than a couple more fights but even then, what is the point?

By Parker, Hammer, Takam, Stiverne, Dubois, and Zhang in the first fight without going down. He was on the brink of top level and this happened and what I mean by that, is there's no way back to a world title now. Unless he waits until he's 41

The fact that Zhang is 40 years old means that he was avoided in his 30s.
I have no doubt that zhang as a lot of power and furthermore joyce as a chin that can take a hit. It was the accuracy of that punch by zhang, clean on the whistle and a testament to Joyce's hardened chin that he got back to his feet.

Once again, makes Hrgovic's 'win' look better than the naysayers like Ade give him credit for. I accept that the Hrgovic result was contentious, but by comparison Zhang has battered Joyce twice now.
Yes, Hrgovic provided a blueprint on how to beat Zhang. However Joyce was unable to adopt it and never will. Fury would have that capability if he wanted to and so would Usyk. Zhang would have a better chance against Wilder or Joshua but it's close.

The scariest part of the program yesterday was not the KO, but Joyce stating he would continue to fight. His legs and reflexes are completely shot. What's the end game here? He's 38 now and it's not going to happen anymore for him.

Im betting on ZZ against Wilder if that fight happens, but Wilder of course has a very good punchers chance against anyone. ZZ is not slow for being that huge, but at that kind of size the agility and stamina is somewhat limited, I don't think he can land clean on Fury or Usyk. They are not going to be stationary targets like Joyce, and they are not going to brawl either and will be satisfied with winning on points.

Re-watch the Hrgovic/ZZ fight and count punches. Both guys looked terrible-- and I think most fans expected Hrgovic to look better and ZZ to look worse so maybe that's effed up your collective perceptions- but if you count punches per round, and take the knockdown into account, Hrgovic won 7 or 8 of those rounds. All i can give ZZ is rounds 1, 3, 6 and 9. 4 and 5 I guess are swing rounds, but Hrgovic outlanded him in both. The rest were all Hrgovic's. It was an awful fight, but the fighter who outlands and outworks the other wins.

There is a crisis in Professional British boxing coaching. It's producing one dimensional, unadaptible fighters with poor mobility & no head movement!
Joe Joyce's predictable shuffle to the left moves him away from the straight left. The problem however is if over done it sets him up for a check right hook. You could see what was going to happen half way through the 1st round.
Joyce still got hit by a few hard straight lefts in the first with his nose broken towards the end of the round. In the second round Joyce copped 3 to 4 real hard straight lefts with the final shot near the end hurting his neck.
Then in the third round Zhang had seen enough of him moving left and then timed a devastating right hook. He didn't go overboard before that and just pawed a few check right hooks over Joyce's jab to test the timing. At that stage it was like watching a slow car crash and anyone could have timed it. It was as easy as to count (1 n 2 n throw) by the way Joyce was predictably moving left.
Joyce just needs to be given 2 cash out fights for his retirement and then sent out to pasture. Throw him to Jarrard Anderson for another KO loss, and then Chisora for his last fight.
The real fight in the division is now Fury v Zhang forget about Usyk he is not beating either of those 2.
Listened to fight via Talk Sport, then watched it afterwards. Astonished TS didn't mention once that Joyce fought with one hand, he wouldn't or couldn't throw with his right. Think he should retire

Since Fury is Furying and Usyk is likely fighting Hrgovic next. And AJ won’t likely fight Wilder, I think Wilder vs Zhang makes a lot of sense. I don’t see Zhang giving Wilder a headache when negotiating price. I would say Zhang vs Ruiz but Ruiz won’t get that 10m pay day he’s seeking so it’s unlikely
