    Here we look at our Newport 170 and Newport 144 floorplans in a side by side comparison and weigh the pros and cons of each. Hopefully this video can help you visualize the space in both wheelbases and help you figure out the size you want to build as a DIY or professional build. Enjoy!

    They're nice professional looking builds but the "170" is the best hands down. I could not image living in a van without a shower and toilet even if I used my gym facilities most of the time. It's a house on wheel and it needs to cover all the bases. Good job.

      Shower and toilet feature in lots of 144 builds out there. Just takes more ingenuity. The problem with the 170 is they are heavier which reduces the weight allowance for the conversion and payload, they are harder to manoeuvre around, especially off the beaten track, they dont fit in a standard parking bay, and they grab more attention so anything stealthy is not easy.

    Going to convert a 170 into my own mini home. Figured that renting a small studio apartment when working 5 days a week without a family Is a waste of money so I decided to stick all that rent money into my own portable Mercedes sprinter 170 home. The goal is to live in it for at least 5 years wich would still be cheaper than renting a studio apartment home for 5 years.

    Hello, rookie question here; if you chose the 144 and you create a single bed instead of a queen size, and keep the kitchen area about the same size as is, can't you built a shower/bathroom in there, too?

    I’d do the 144 with less counter space in trade for the shower/toilet. Stack the microwave over a sink. That way i’d fit in regular parking spaces when in town anhave a better turn radius. I wonder if the chassis can still accommodate the grey water tank from the 170.

    Wow, I'm impressed! So well done. Very sharp! I would feel claustrophic in there with such little and few windows. I would want big windows on the sides almost everywhere to have a wonderful view and not feel so enclosed. ButI know you all can make it how one prefers. ;) They are gorgeous!

    I have had many vans in my life and to be honest. I love the shorties. On top of that I have been using a 1 ton pick up an arctic fox 811 truck camper for the last six years when all is said and done I’m selling the truck and camper and going back to the van life I have decided on a short wheelbase 4 x 4 V6 Sprinter. The main thing for me is to be able to get off road and be able to sleep comfortably in a van as well as traveling of course I’m going to keep it very simple mostly just a bed and some storage space I like to keep the van open as much as possible my figuring is that it does have a 5000 pound towing capacity so for those winter trips or times when I just want to have more I plan on towing a 15 foot Lightweight travel trailer behind it I figure this gives me more options I can do the simple camping trips and the more extended ones

  • @xavhow
    @xavhow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    144 for me. I like it compact. You could move the fridge under the bed and use the space for a hidden toilet. Lastly design a hidden shower space near the side entrance, in case the outdoor shower is not feasible.

    By the 140 why not put a small kitchen cooking place by the entry where the sitting bunch is and loose the bunch, and where the big kitchen cooking counter space is ,then have a shower toilet there . Small space is about compromise, using every little space for necessities as possible than luxuries right , so who needs the sitting bunch in the cold winters while one has to dig a hole to go party outside freezing and shower in the cold ? Toilet n shower are very necessary . Am just saying guys , my opinion . But all in all your builds are fabulous 👍🇿🇦🇿🇦

    Lose the shower in the 170; make it into an outdoor shower. Lose the kitchen in the 170 and make a slide out kitchen in the garage. I’m 6’ 5” and the 170 would be preferable for me. Add 2 swivel seats so there are 4 swivel seats. Add a lagoon table for the 4 seats. My idea is to travel the USA and play all the municipal golf courses. Love the set up. 👌👍

    off the cuff: I'm obsessed with two Sprinter 144 chassis RVs. One is 'The Den', by Yama Vans, the other is 'Veda', by Advanced RVs. I'm interested in a hybrid layout, borrowing from both designs. this would take the sliding door side layout from The Den, and the other side's layout from Veda, if that makes sense. Any thoughts?

    I would rather have the shower then the kitchen. I can eat out but not take showers at store deli or restaurant. I can cook outside, and use shower hose to wash dishes outside. If one does not have a healthclub membership or is in some far away place one will not be able to shower. Hard to shower out of a gasoline station bathroom. Hard to shower at a walmart. When one is showering in a bathroom walnart it takes 2-3 hrs. Vs. 10 minute shower. Can not shower outside in freezing wether. Most of the year it is cold outside.
