  • Kubota B2601 compact tractor. Land Pride FSP500 broadcast spreader. Sometimes the simplest ideas can make all the difference.
    The last piece of the puzzle has finally fallen into place. Using the Kubota B2601 compact tractor, the B2782 front mount snowblower and Landpride FSP500 broadcast spreader, running at the same time, off the rear and mid PTO, to clear snow from the driveway and to spread sand or salt on the hills while snowblowing the snow, at a reasonably fast driving speed, is the solution I was looking for. A simple mod to the spreader from a subscriber, makes it all come together. Just in time for the final stretch of winter as we start to see more and more ice in the driveway, through the swinging temperature changes we experience at this time of the year. Perfect solution for me here on my long 1.3 km driveway. Come along with me as I test out the solution here at the cottage, in the outdoors. Cheers!

    I like seeing Gord and three clones on your intro! Cool effect! Also I think if you wanted to spread that sand just slightly more you could put a few bolts in those holes then the heads of the bolts will sling the sand a little farther out. Great video and i love your driveway!

The driveway seems to be working alright now for the snowmobilers to not mess things up for you will be even better! Thanks for sharing with us and enjoy the good weather while it lasts. Hi Gord, looks like the “no vane” spreader disc is working well for you too. As you see the direction of the spinner disc drops more sand to the right than left. My private road is about 10 feet wide when cleaned. I find keeping to the right side of the road back and forth drops the sand right where my cars tires are resulting in sand where your traction is needed.

    Maybe take a couple of 1 inch pieces of the spreader bar and bold it do the center bolt holes across from each other , this might help to spread the sand more evenly and not throw it so far off your driveway , just something you might want to try

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Don! Thanks for the suggestion. I may try something similar to that at some point just to see how it will work. But overall, just happy to be able to drive faster now and keep the sand in the driveway. Thanks again!

    I am glad you put these videos together for the spreader. i am looking to buy one, probably not this year but next year. i have seen other spreaders with the sand/salt shield as an add on option, but land pride does not offer this. but those same manufacturers dont offer the cover for the spreader. i thin will get the land prid like you have and just try make 4 shorter vanes to try and get a more even spread. how long is your driveway and how many reloads of the hopper does it take per treatment? I am trying to figure out if the 500 is big enough for my driveway without having to reload it multiple times. thanks

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Mike. Thanks for the kind comments. My driveway is just under a mile long but I don't ever sand the whole thing. I stick to the hills and valleys of it only. The 500 is a good size for me - 99% of the time I can do all the hills in one tub full. Also, it is important in the winter not to leave salty sand in it for long periods, especially if it gets wet. So I try to make sure to empty it on the driveway each time, when possible. Also, if I may suggest that as you research the different brands, you will want one with stainless steel parts in the spreader area (because of the salt etc). Good luck and hope you had a good Christmas!

    I wonder if you could have only 2 deflectors and bring the spreader closer to the ground for a more even spread, and let the snow banks contain the over spread in the driveway?

    I love seeing how newer tractor owners figure a lot of things out that were never figured out by so-called old school tractor people. Excellent solution! No matter how much tractor or machine experience you have, you always have to be willing to look outside of the box for Real Life Solutions, excellent work. Good luck with spring thaw and keeping the snow out, enjoying your videos. Thank you

    I'm not sure the world is quite ready for four GP's, but at least your work load would be cut in quarters !! For a while there I thought I was watching your version of "Orphan Black"...where Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany plays multiple characters...like 8 or 10 cloned sisters.
    I think your solution to the issue is just fine. If you do seriously consider the purchase of a belly mower, maybe your good relationship with your Kubota dealer will allow you to help him install one at his dealership to see the intensity of the labor involved. I removed the mower that came with my recent B3030 as quick as I could. I couldn't begin getting 'off-road' with the mower on due to the clearance. However, IF the mounts would be universal between the different front mount implements it would not present such a problem.
    Excellent video, with awesome music. Thank you sir for sharing your activities.

    Just an idea when you design your sand shelter you might want to consider an elevated hopper, just back the spreader underneath let gravity do the loading. Use the bucket to load the hopper in the fall would minimize the shovelling!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using an elevated hopper, would make an easy loading job for the spreader, but you would need to have at least 2 tons above you and being able to fill it would be a pain in more ways then you think, unless he had an old grain elevator and a small hopper at the base!

    Hello from eastern Ontario. Our snow pack is melting away pretty quickly. Would like your thoughts on a pull-behind snow blower. My L4060 doesn't have a mid-pto. Backing up for any distance puts too much strain on my neck. I think you did a demo on a rear facing blower but wonder how a pull behind would work for you. My driveway isn't as long as yours but I clear a yard nearly the same size. Currently using the bucket to clear my snow. Thanks for another great video.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good evening 4060! I have never tried one before but there are several makes out there to look through. One of the farmers I pass each week has one and I have pulled over and watched him many times. Seems to work very well - he has a very long driveway, as you might imagine. I agree that being turned backwards for a long periods is pretty painful - at least for me. But I would see if there are some youtube videos that demonstrate the different units for you to see. And of course, always check the google reviews. They are commonly called "rear pull" blowers or "inverted" rear blowers. Sorry I could not help more but wish you good luck!

    Seems like your not getting the sand out as much as I'd be happy with. Perhaps you could buy more of the distribution blade sets and modify them in different ways? Find the right combination like coupe them down half way.. or drill holes in the ends in a honey comb fashion?

      @GPOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day Jesse. Thanks for the great ideas. I am pretty happy with the big difference between now and having the distribution vanes in places throwing it too far, but I think that is a smart idea to perhaps try some options to see if I can get it to throw a full 8 feet consistently. I think that would be perfect for my needs here. Thanks again - really appreciate you sharing some thoughts. Take good care!

The first time I tried to plow my 500 foot driveway, I made many rookie mistakes, which caused me to have to ditch my tractor on side of driveway and wait a few weeks for a thaw. On the spreaders I played with, they had a plate in the bottom that could be rotated to bias the spread to the left, middle or right. You might want to play with that (if it has one), or the lack of throwers makes it much less effective. Folding the throwers back will also narrow the spread, even if they are on there, but folded as far back as possible... also saves you losing them in the shed somewhere.
    But your knowledge of gritting driveways is a lot more than mine, you could count to times I've driven in snow (in my 50 years) on a blind butchers left hand.

      LOL. Good morning Spooky. I hadn't heard that one before.:)) Yes, tried to fold the vanes etc but still couldn't drive at much higher than just above idle, without throwing it too wide. Most important for me is being able to now drive at a reasonable speed and keep it narrow. Thanks very much for offering some ideas though - I appreciate it. All the best !

    GP, I have a similar situation with a shared access driveway with atv & snowmobile access. If recreational vehicles have packed the fresh snow I set my scarifiers for 2" on my box blade and break the surface and blow it away.

      Good day Sean. Thanks for the idea. I never thought of that but it sounds like a great idea for getting the pack broken up. Thanks again - enjoy your weekend!

      LOL. Good day Roy. I was just thinking about that earlier this week. Several days and warm weather and sunshine has been turning that snow into slush on the driveway so it won't be long now. Have a wonderful weekend!

    I think the spreader and pattern are perfect. I don't see the need to cover the entire road perfectly, you can easily drive down the middle which is where I would be driving. The sleds should spread it out a little for you too.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day Chris. Thanks - I think so too. Just need to drive down the sides of the road more - was kind of hard to steer straight and fly the drone at the same time. :)) Thanks again and all the best!

    Hi GP,
    Catchy Tune! Who was the composer?
    I see you found a way to get a lot accomplished with 4 of you! LOL!
    Removing the flights on the disc kept the sand confined. I was wondering if just putting only the bolts back in might give a slightly wider distribution so your whole path benefits!
    Great Video!
    Here in Northern Illinois, we are seeing hopefully the last remnants of the snow remains.

      Good morning Tom! LOL. Yup got the work done a little quicker. A few folks have suggested the same or similar idea. I may give it a try at some point but pretty happy - I just need to drive along the sides instead of across the middle. :)) Thanks again - we'll hopefully be seeing some Spring soon!

    It's always amazing when a simple solution, that a person never considered, or at least not much, will shine. Glad you found your answer GP. EDIT: apparently, "replies to my comments" is turned off by default. That's why I missed your reply.

    So, with all that added sand, you shouldn't have any pot holes when it melts. 🤔🤔🤔

    That spreader can definitely be "dialed in" in a more optimal manner. My money is on a deflector getting a nice even spread from left to right across GP's nice lane! Cheers

    That was a great for spreading the sand and for your tractor . Hydrostatic tractors are not designed to be driven at idle speeds ( bad idea ) and up those hills to boot .

      Good morning Herb! Thanks for the info- I actually didn't know that. I normally don't of course, but have had to drive slow in the past with this spreader. Appreciate you letting me know - thanks again! Have a good weekend!

    Very cool effect showing you at 4 different positions around the tractor at the same time! Do the snowmobile riders complain about the sand being on the driveway?
