Good morning Tyler, I also have one of those spreaders. Same tub etc. but ground drive. I use mine in the middle of a train (seed bed prep, spread, cover drag) when planting native grass seed. You will likely find that your gates are not tight enough to contain small seed etc. when bouncing to and from fields etc. I have some easy modifications that I made to correct those issues. I can send you pics.......
Fun seeing those big, curious, whiffling cow noses in your camera! Reminds me of wandering around my grandpa's pasture with my bug jar, with that pasture full of big, gentle Holstein dairy cows! They were curious about me and would use their noses that way. I would give them a head scratch, and they liked that! Those were wonderful times. Congratulations on getting your spreader! It's going to do a tremendous amount of good for your pasture and your stock. It'll end up paying for itself with how it's going to enrich your pasture. Well done!
That’s a God thing, getting such a good deal and it is a good piece of equipment. (even if you can make improvements, which is really cool). You have a good eye for filming. There’s some beautiful shots in there, thanks for including that. Hope it’s only sinuses and/or allergies, and not a cold coming on. Great idea about the grasses being healthier. I appreciate you’re being willing to try the products. Looking forward to seeing how that turns out.
Always interesting to hear about your equipment even though I know nothing about it. LOL. I appreciate how you always explain things. Hope the spreader works great for you. I had to chuckle when your camera fell and how interested the cows always are at sniffing it. Awesome shots with the cows this morning, always love seeing them. As always, love your videos!
Nice purchase, that will be a great tool for planting! You spoke of the cow having trails but, if you walk in the wood anywhere you will see trails from deer and small animals!
I expect your audience includes old folks like me and young farmers who appreciate your review of products, things to look for, how to use them and the benefits.
I think you will like that spreader. I’ve had two, both plastic. Current one has all stainless moving parts, except as I suspect yours is, those threaded rods and nuts near what I call the gate sleeves. I used metal (steel) ones on golf courses, larger than the one I have now. It was hard to handle mounting and removing it alone. Later in life I worked on athletic fields and parks for 22 years until cancer took me away from it in 2018. Since my sites were scattered, I usually had to put the spreader in my truck bed and leave more room on the trailer for the tractor and fertilizer. I sometimes transported the tractor with the spreader on it. The tie-breakers for me were noise and corrosion. Take heart, I was able to put 160,000 lbs (80 pallets) over 8-9 years through my first plastic spreader. If I had been willing to knock out the shaft and bearing and replaced the bearing I coud still be using it. I sold it to a friend with a farm for $100 and got the new one with stainless parts. Fertilizer is extremely corrosive. Seems to be worse when it is flung hard. Always give it a good rinse and WD-40 the impeller shaft inside and below the hopper. Especially with a tractor as big as yours, if you don’t keep that PTO shaft straight and parallel to the ground you can easily bend the impeller shaft or rip part of it through the bottom of the hopper. I know you maintain things well. These are just things I have learned. One last idea - each time you use a new material or a new setting for the gate, take a photo of where you have the gate opening pinned. Later you can easily look back and know, by date, what you were putting down. If I had a poor result I took one photo of the actual and another one of where I would set it next time. If you use the same gear and RPMs each time, it will make things easier from one time to the next. Only particle size and gate opening size will need to be considered. On most spreaders you can adjust the spread if one side is throwing heavier than the other. Hopefully, it came adjusted properly. Enjoy your new implement!
New Spreader! Congratulations ❤❤! It’s TUESDAY! New Video! ❤❤❤ I really enjoy every video! I look forward to Tuesdays! Usually around 10am CST! I find a new video! Great Spreader! Stainless steel! You’re so good at fixing all your equipment! Hello, Callie!❤ Good Morning, Cows! ❤ How’s the Little Baby Bull doing? Curious Cows! Or Camera Hogs? ❤❤ Great Informational Video! Thank-you, Tyler and Callie! You make my Tuesdays! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A couple things, I know I've said this before but every time you have background video, your efforts to upgrade the ranch just jumps out!! Getting the research to improve your pastures and that Redmond is out there providing the mechanism for that effort, is another pathway for those of use trying to make our operations more balanced and sustainable....Another good and valuable post FTR!!
Make sure you clean it out thoroughly and oil the hopper and doors well after use to avoid corrosion. We pour diesel fuel in ours after we wash them after fertilizer use. They are a pain to free up if you don’t do this
You could easily build a extention out of 1/8in sheet metal for the top of the spreader. 12in to 24in taller bolt onto the rim to increase the capacity of the spreader.
I have the same one except with a poly hopper. I love it and couldn't be happier. A lot of people say broadcast spreaders are disposable implements but I've had mine several years and it still looks like new. The trick is to wash it as soon as you are done using it and then spread a thin film of oil on it using a shop rag.
the top link hole is oversized to accommodate a class 3, three point hitch. and it appears to be 3/16 metal on the top link connection which will do just fine for the amount of weight going to be put in that Hopper
I have a spreader just like that, I bought it off Craigslist,I planted a new pasture using it,put fertilizer on with it, planted alfalfa, orchard grass, clover, perennial ryegrass and the spreader did a good job much cheaper than a drill with great results. I think you'll have good results too! Thanks for the video I enjoy all your videos! Butch Ashland Ohio
Tyler take care of yourself weather it is cold or allergies you and family are wonderful your cows and dog are also fun to watch thanks for your videos
Good for you Tyler, should make things much easier for you, once again a great and interesting vid! You do have a welder’s eye and that is really good I think.
Since you only have spot trails, you could spot fill where they cross the levie(sp?) Maybe with corral scrapings. Spot seed add a little mulch, maybe a couple of temporary posts to divert traffic. Which would save a major rip out. No good ideas for gateways, maybe someone else does. Always enjoy your postings.
Last year I bought a 3-point rototiller from Tractor Supply, it didn’t have any oil in the chain box on the side. Definitely always lubricate equipment when you get it!
We look forward to the results of your "experiment". Nice explanation of your levi maintance program. I was surprised at the size of your herd . How big is your herd now ?
The hopper is probably cold-pressed so keep an eye out for cracks at stress points. Reinforcing, as you propose, will probably be a good idea and reduce the possible problem.
U r just so Innovative. How is the little Calf's Eye Doing now that u treated it? Hope All is well. Thank y for sharing. I know u will make the new equipment Beneficial for u to use.
We have a similar spreader that was purchased from Agri-Supply. Not sure what brand name is on it.I like the fact that the pto shaft has a piece you have to push down instead of having to pull a piece back and push. You can adjust the spreading width of spreader by moving the blades on top of the spinner. Our spreader has a piece that goes halfway up with a wheel that turns .around inside. Probably the reason for the top link hole being a little large is so it can be used on different size top links.
Sound stuffy. You ok? Great review of the spreader. Funny you mentioned that about the conditioner from Redmond. Was thinking about doing a portion of that for the pasture we rotate thr poultry on. What was the name of thr machine you are thinking of using to level out the pasture? We need something similar for ours.
Seems to me you got a pretty good deal on that spreader; makes selling that squeeze chute worthwhile. Each time you get a new piece of equipment you upgrade the ranch. Looking at your videos from a few years ago in comparison to today, I can see how you have improved the ranch appreciably. Another great video, Tyler. Sounds like you may have a little cold, or allergy; if so, take care and get better.
Haha, I can’t believe it, i bought the EXACT same spreader Sunday…… I’m using mine to over seed my Bermuda grass pasture with some cool season grasses (Rye,oats, wheat) trying to cut back on the hay usage this year. Our climate seems to be similar to yours, and I thought if you can grow hay in the winter, why can’t I grow forage? I’m running a little higher stocking rate than you are. I have 8 cows, 3 Bulls, 2 Steers, 2 Heifers, and 6 calves. 8 of the herd need to “go down the road” before the next calf crop…. I agree the least favorite day of the year. “Cull day” One last thing I want to mention….I have never had any problem with containing my Bulls (maybe just lucky) but being a herd animal I always make certain the bull has company, steers, other bulls, or bull calves. I think some bulls get a bad name because they don’t like to be alone in solitary confinement…. Just a thought???
The cone of the spreader was probably a flat disk and it was put through a press that made it into the cone shape it is now...thats why its all one solid peice with no seam. I'd recomend washing it out really well every time its used and then storing it under shelter that way it will last you a good long time. It could be around for your kids ya never know lol

Something that helps in many ways. How is the little red steer, buddy? Haven't seen him for a bit. Have a wonderful week. Take care of yourself, sounds like you have a bit of a cold or allergies.
I really believe that I would have made a good farmer in my younger years if I'd had had the chance to do so. But I didn't & I'm not, so I'll just continue to watch you do all that you do & imagine myself there helping you! Somewhat, lolol
Heck I’m 63 years old and just bought a small farm. After retiring from many decades in the contracting home building business. Some think I’m crazy. Oh well. I’m a workaholic. Wife is getting a new home I’m building on the property. So she’s tickled. My dogs also love it.
I have a spreader exactly like that it’s just branded as Tarter. The only problem I have with mine is it only throws the fertilizer out of the left side. I want it to spread out of both sides equally but so far hadn’t been able to adjust it right.
Hello Tyler do you have a magnet. Good way to see if that's stainless since stainless is not magnetic. Hope it works well and I agree make the holes on the 3 point proper size. Have a great day.
I recently purchased this same spreader. Mine is Tarter branded from TS. It has a small agitator but looks different than yours. And there is a good size spindle with an elongated hole in it. Maybe that is to attach a larger more robust agitator if needed.
Hey farmer, Tyler you are a magnet and put it on those little gates on the bottom of your cedar and try to stick it to that stainless PTO shaft. If it doesn’t stick, it’s stainless adios amigo, your Tejano.
After seeing several farms that owned these, and how they all ruined them by using fertilizer, whatever you do…. After use, ALWAYS wash them out and then wash them again! I’ve had mine for 3 years..no noticeable rust, and after cleaning I have a small spray bottle of vegetable oil that I spray on the sliding ports. Hope this helps
I suspect it's stainless due to salt usage. If it is not rusty and non-magnetic, it is likely austenitic stainless steel aka 300 series. Ferritic stainless (400 series) is magnetic and develops a passive red layer of oxidation on the surface.
You can use a magnet to tell if its stainless steel or galvanized. A magnet will not be attracted to stainless steel but will be attracted to galvanize. Anyway, great spreader and video, thanks.
Most stainless steel alloys are non-magnetic due to the low iron content. Get a small permanent magnet and see if it is attracted to your spreader parts.
Hello Farmer Tyler. If you want to be able to check whether a component is made of stainless steel or some other material, you can often tell with certainty by checking with a magnet. We know that metals like aluminium, brass, copper and lead are not magnetic at all, and usually we would be able to identify these visually. When it come to steel, and various alloys of steel, most of them will be magnetic. Even some grades of stainless steel are magnetic, or slightly magnetic. Some stainless steel alloys, particularly food grade stainless steel, are not magnetic at all. But even this is not a definitive guide, as I have found that stainless steel cutlery in my kitchen is somewhat magnetic. I know that stainless steel cylinders for LPG gas, as fitted to motor vehicles, are non magnetic - at least I should say that many are, and hopefully they all are. If the PTO shaft on your spreader is stainless steel, it probably will not be magnetic. If it is strongly magnetic then it may just be chrome plated steel. “I wish you luck!”
Love the spreader nearly the same colour as grandpa's tractor, Looks small on the Holland A little thing for a big job Just the thing in very good condition too How's buddie plus the little calf you called on his ear tag big boy and the little blind calf all of them are so sweet You sound like you have a cold , hot honey and lemon drink will help you . Years ago for a cold etc they used goose fat on there chests ewe not nice 😕
I highly recommend checking out TH-camr Greg Judy. He rotationally grazes and has some great setups for water in each individual paddock. Your small area and access to water should make that ideal.
Tyler you know you get what you pay for - or should !! It'll be interesting to see how long this spreader lasts, bearing in mind that some parts were made with stainless steel !! At least you're not spreading salt !! Ha !!
Interesting. Never used that type of spreader, but I hope that it works well for you. Boy, those trails have been heavily used by your cattle!😂 Makes it look like they only use one trail, and single file too!😂😂
White not lay down an above ground water pipeline along the head end of each paddock/strip and move a smaller trough with the cattle (or deploy a few small troughs along the line)? That will stop all the need for trailing back to water.
My boss litterly has a mower three pint attachment that one of our employees ran dry straight from brand new turned it on before he got back to the shop
Tractor Supply is so sketchy, lol. I have a few implements from them and you HAVE to look at it before buying. I got a post hole digger delivered and they sent me a crate that was previously opened, rotted and falling apart, filled with rain water, rust all over and a CRACKED tube. Not even usable! Can't believe they even sent that thing to me. Sent it back and got a better one, but damn... Got a tiller from them and thank goodness I don't need it often. Not much quality in what they carry, but the prices is good enough!
Thanks Tyler! How is baby bull's pink eye?

FTR astonishing. 100 hours a week heavy farm work. Tremendous amount
of farm implements.
Outstanding, everything matches up to the tractor.
You already have some perhaps useful ideas from your crowd! Nice survey of the equipment…it will serve you well.

Good video Mr. Tyler 😃👍🏼🎉
Can't wait to see the outcome of your new spreader !!
I have a spreader similar to yours, but genuinely old. Enjoyed the insight into its use.
Back in 60's/70's there was a company by the name if Vicon in the UK that looked similar. Also the Atco was very popular.

The hopper is probably cold-pressed so keep an eye out for cracks at stress points. Reinforcing, as you propose, will probably be a good idea and reduce the possible problem.
Good evaluation on the spreader....hope they see the bad points so they made those improvements.
Thanks for shopping TSC....... We supply 6 stores in our area with small squares, year round.....
U r just so Innovative. How is the little Calf's Eye Doing now that u treated it? Hope All is well. Thank y for sharing. I know u will make the new equipment Beneficial for u to use.
Sounds like good plan
I have the same spreader, but with a different agitator. It's been awesome, and served me well. Definitely a good tool to have on the farm!
Good review. Not many people would take the time to weld properly sized holes for the top mount. Including myself 😂

Sounds like you may have a little cold, or allergy; if so, take care and get better.
Your grandpappy would be proud of you, Tyler !! You've made a lot of improvements, even in the shower rt time I've been following you !!
Add some support to that stir bar inside the hopper and park it empty.

If the PTO shaft on your spreader is stainless steel, it probably will not be magnetic. If it is strongly magnetic then it may just be chrome plated steel. “I wish you luck!”
Do you plant Rye Grass for the winter?
Love the spreader nearly the same colour as grandpa's tractor,
Looks small on the Holland
A little thing for a big job
Just the thing in very good condition too
How's buddie plus the little calf you called on his ear tag big boy and the little blind calf all of them are so sweet
You sound like you have a cold , hot honey and lemon drink will help you .
Years ago for a cold etc they used goose fat on there chests ewe not nice 😕
I highly recommend checking out TH-camr Greg Judy. He rotationally grazes and has some great setups for water in each individual paddock. Your small area and access to water should make that ideal.
Did you do soil samples? Are these Redmond soil amendment products new?
I’ve noticed a lot of “decent” spreaders will have stainless non painted surfaces to help hold up against fertilizers.
Could just make a Bush for the top link. They are made with the larger hole to use a cat two pin on bigger top link tractor
My boss litterly has a mower three pint attachment that one of our employees ran dry straight from brand new turned it on before he got back to the shop
Did your stuff come in? Does it take a while to work into the soil?
That was funny, the camera being snorfed by the cows.
How do you replace the blade? Ours broke off of the pin.
You probably already know this but clean it after each use. Fertilizer will wreak havoc on that steel.
Top hole is designed for a cat 2 3 point. You need to use a sleeve to take up the space from your cat 1 to a cat 2.
You wouldn't happen to know if it is quick hitch compatible do you?
Would it spread compost??
Why not put a bigger pin ?
Use a magnet, if it sticks not solid stainless, if it sticks and falls-off anadized stainless...?
