Morning GW. The county puts a small amount of salt in it to stop it from freezing but yes, it does get moist or a little wet here. I Keep it in a covered barrel but it is not moisture tight. Have a good one!
Good evening M Gord Potter 👌👍😉 Yes temperature above 0 c ( freezing point ) can affect the snowy road condition into icy dangerous for sure 🥴 Great spreader to have and OUSTANDING video Sir 😉👍👌 Bonne nuit 😴👌👍😉🍻
Greetings Gord, Lee here, great video as always, great to have the proper equipment to do the job, eh! It was kind of strange to see you not wearing your signature bib overalls, LOL, you and your family keep well, later.
Love this video. I have a new to me 1/4 mile driveway and lx 2610 on the north shore of lake superior and am experiencing the first "it was warm and then it rained" scenario with the ice. Thanks for the advice on the talon chains by the way - mine are on the way. Today I spread 140 pounds of sand over some - but not anywhere near all - of the driveway and realized why I needed a spreader with an agitator like yours. And a lot of cheap sand!
Nice refresher GP, on adding some traction to the ice bed. If you're lucky enough to have the sun poke through, the darker color of the sand may aid in drawing a bit of solar gain to melt a bit more of the ice before the temp drops so low. Good ol' Guy....always thinking.
Nice set up Gord, the salt sand will keep coming through unlike just sand. The snow and ice will cover it. My road is mostly flat so it only needs ice chains to rough up the surface. Your videos are making short work of this winte!
Hey Gord! Our last day above freezing was in December, so no melting or ice issues here. Good that you've got it handled. I had forgotten Guy's invention for your spreader. That was genius! Have a great week! Cheers!
Morning Richard! I have a bucket part way through the driveway but I try not to use it up when I can just drive back. It is more for when i am coming in or out in a vehicle and need it. Thanks - great suggestion!
I know you had a couple videos on the spread pattern. I had a similar problem spreading salt in my HOA. Road is 15 feet wide and it wanted to spread 30. I bought an extra set of blades for the spreader disk and cut them down to they were just 5/8" high. Perfect 15 foot spread pattern now. I attempted removing the blades only but it just wasn't wide enough for a single pass. Just thought I would share.
Great video! Didn't realize until now that you have to get out of the cab to regulate the flow gate. Need a small linear actuator or hydraulic cylinder on it!
A couple of weeks ago, we had a wicked bad ice storm. The ice was about 2 inches think and bloody difficult to get rid of. I should have just put the broadcast spreader on the back of my tractor but it was cold, windy, and not worth the trouble. Nice video and hope you are well.
So I watched many who blow snow but I have been wondering when someone was going to spread sand. So the real question is when you spread sand and then get a fresh layer of snow on top how abrasive is the sand to the blower? Yeah I just started watching people blow snow my favorite videos blowing are the ones using the Kubota L6060. Seems very satisfying. The closest I can come to that is using the flail mower attachment.
Good morning Walter. I don't think the abrasion is an issue at all but I have only ben doing it for 6 winters now. It is a gravel driveway so it is regularly picking up stray gravel etc. Great question though. Thanks!
We actually have a few buckets/bins of sand with a scoop inside along the way just in case. I’ve never had to do anything more than that… but must be because it stays consistently colder where I am. I can see how a little thaw and freeze would cause problems.
I missed how you modified your spreader, but two thumbs up 👍 👍on how you did it. Last winter, Mike Morgan (I think it was him on Outdoors with them Morgans) used some real fine stone . He believed and he said he liked that approach because it just blends well with the rock in his driveway. What do you think?
Good morning Jim. I missed that episode but Mike is pretty smart. Interesting approach - I'll try to look up that video and check it out. However, mine is free from the county. LOL. Thanks for the comment and letting me know!
Gord, I have this same spreader with you and Guy's mods. It works great now. I like to spray the sides of the tub to help the sand slide too. It's a non issue as far as only doing half the driveway since like you said you have to come back anyway.
Sure could use one of those here , slipped and fell hard going out to the back of the property this afternoon . At 80 years of age , i'm getting too old for falling that hard
Was wondering if we where going to see that back in action... I think it's doing well, and agree with you, going and coming back. I was just thinking that you could bounce it up against the top of 3 point travel and knock it down then you posted that... lol... we on the same page😎... Don't see any problem.👍🙂
Another informative clip, thanks! I get the same trouble with ice in northen Norway. I have however found that grain size matters! You might consider bigger, sharper grains. At least on sheet ice those might work a bit better.
Two things 1. Sand stick to plastic.get a stainless one$$$. 2. spinner is to fast so you under mine. it happens to me when I unload a highway plow truck.. put a remote vibrator on on your cone.. other then that what you have works. thanks for your videos I like watching them...
Great job on the driveway Gord, that wiggler that "GUY McGIVER" came up with is doing a great job and the little bounce trick helps out too. You folks have it under control. Those chains sure do get you around on that steep drive you have. Stay safe and have fun. Fred. When we got home late today and checked the mail guess you know what was in there :-) . I sent you an email. Fred
Gord, you can buy a bridging rod with the spreader. They work a little differently than yours because they have a wheel which runs on the inside of the funnel. They work well even with heavy material as they stand straight and spin till needed.
Hey thanks WW! It came with an actuator exactly like that but it states in the manual that it should not be used with sand or salt, so I take it out in the winter. Thanks though - much appreciated!
Hi Justin. Thanks for the idea. I used to do that, but then I travel at 1-2 kms /hour since the PTO RPM is directly relative to the engine RPM. Thanks!
Good morning Bob! I keep it in a covered plastic drum. The sand has a small amount of salt in it to help stop it from freezing. We get it from the municipal yard. Hope that helps.
Morning Mike. I went back for a half tub. Usually one full tub is enough but I opened the flow gates too much this time and emptied early. I only sand the big hills - not the whole driveway. Cheers!
I've considered getting a hitch mounted spreader for my plow truck and buckets of more sand in the bed, but I hadn't thought about one on my tractor. One concern is how often are you having to fill that?
Morning Bill. They come in different sizes and this 500 is the smallest. For me, I only sand the hills and usually I don't run out but I opened the gates fully this time and had to go back to finish the last half of the last hill. So close...LOL!
GP I just watched video on Tractor Time With Tim and he stated having issues with the tilt steering moving on its own. Also when moving slow the tractor will sometimes jerk without additional pressure on treadle pedal. I just ordered the same tractor he has (LX3310). Have you noticed either of these issues on your LX2610? I currently have a B2601 that I am trading when the new LX3310 arrives. I am concerned over these 2 problems.
Hi Mike. Yes . I did. video last winter on the good and bad of the L2610. Maybe take a look at it. if you want to discuss live on the phone, just send me an email with your phone number to gordpotter55 at gmail dot com. It would be much easier than me typing out a long note. LOL
Here in our Municipality I pay for it through my Property Taxes. There is a big Municipal Lot close by. There are huge pyramids of winter sand available for property owners to take, so I go and fill up there (no charge because it is provided through my taxes). I have an ID Card that is given to me with my tax bill each year ( also used for accessing the Dump),so I can prove I am a property owner in the Municipality. I can take as much sand as I need throughout the winter as long as it is only for my personal use on my property :))
Gord, a big “Thank God for Neighbor Guy!” 👍👏😉
LOL! Yup...again..:))
GP you 'spread' wisdom and happiness.
LOL! Thanks WC!
Cheers GP.
Nice. Cheers!
Good video bud that spreader works very nice good job thanks for sharing take care have a great weekend
You too Tom!
What a great channel. You also have great neighbors.
Thanks Paul!
Nice. I watched this while drinking coffee and listening to my favorite hockey team. Thanks.
Great tips
It looks like your spreader does a great job 👍
Nice job works great. That whole spreader works well for you. Lucky to have Guy around with his experience! Thank you for the video Gordy, Wayne
Some great shots on your video. Thanks Gord. Be safe
Nice video Gord, just a little entertainment. Thanks so much....
Cheers Mike!
Looks good GP! 😁👨🚒
That broadcaster is perfect for your driveway The way it’s setup ....must be hard to keep the sand from freezing.....CHEERS
Morning GW. The county puts a small amount of salt in it to stop it from freezing but yes, it does get moist or a little wet here. I Keep it in a covered barrel but it is not moisture tight. Have a good one!
You've got it down to a science Gord! Now I need to go back and watch (rewatch?) the video where you modify the spreader. Have a great weekend! 🇺🇲 🇨🇦👍
You too Chris!
A timely video. Here on PEI it went from 8°c to -9°c in 8 hours yesterday .
Good morning Dave!
@@GPOutdoors Good Morning GP it is -22c here 🥴🤣👌👍Keep warm 🍻

LOL! Good morning Lee. In the laundry...:)) Have a great weekend!
That rain and then cold we had here in Southern Ontario turned packed snow parking lots into skating rinks, just miserable!
Try just installing some of the bolts and nuts that held the bars on to help the broadcast pattern.

Gp maybe you should carry a couple of sand bags in your bucket in case you run out so you don't have to drive back for more.
Morning Richard! I have a bucket part way through the driveway but I try not to use it up when I can just drive back. It is more for when i am coming in or out in a vehicle and need it. Thanks - great suggestion!

Thanks J2! Great information for folks. Happy you got it tuned in perfectly and thanks again for sharing the info for us. Have a great weekend!
Can you post a link for the cover?
Hey. Bill. sorry I don't have a link - it is a Kubota OEM cover that you buy with the sander, as an option. Cheers!
No worries. Thanks for your reply!
Great video! Didn't realize until now that you have to get out of the cab to regulate the flow gate. Need a small linear actuator or hydraulic cylinder on it!
LOL! I could have opened the back window but had to move the cameras etc so figured I might as well open it while i was out. :) Cheers Chad!

You might consider staging additional sand piles along the drive

Great to hear Dave! Yes , you will see shortly, I blow and sand behind at the same time. Thanks for the note this morning!

LOL. Good morning BB!
Yup, that ice is nasty stuff!
Good morning Chris!
You could of put a shield that deflects the sand
Another informative clip, thanks! I get the same trouble with ice in northen Norway. I have however found that grain size matters! You might consider bigger, sharper grains. At least on sheet ice those might work a bit better.

Morning Fred! Yup Guy's contraption works very well. Glad it arrived :)) Thanks again !
Where did you find dry n unfrozen sand this time of the year.
Morning ET- hey email me at gordpotter55 at gmail dot com!

Put the veins back on and don't run PTO at 540 try half throttle to keep it from spreading so far
Hi Justin. Thanks for the idea. I used to do that, but then I travel at 1-2 kms /hour since the PTO RPM is directly relative to the engine RPM. Thanks!
Nice vidéo GP. What is your sand pile set-up? How do you keep it from freezing?
Good morning Bob! I keep it in a covered plastic drum. The sand has a small amount of salt in it to help stop it from freezing. We get it from the municipal yard. Hope that helps.
Will that spreader work with gravel?
How many times did you refill to get all the road done?
Morning Mike. I went back for a half tub. Usually one full tub is enough but I opened the flow gates too much this time and emptied early. I only sand the big hills - not the whole driveway. Cheers!

Yeah, nothing worse than ice! I slipped and broke my back many years ago, not fun…
Where do you buy your sand from? Loose trailer load? Is it just bagged from home store, or you able to buy it in bulk in some other kind container?
