      will be still crap. ETS2 can't properly skip gears for best performance at all.

    • @waswolltihr1526
      @waswolltihr1526 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Benedettini93 Neither can ATS so the automatic will go through almost all gears and cut power every time it shifts. That's especially annoying in the lower gears when you take off and want to clear an intersection....That thing will shift every gear with a ~1 second power cut each time. Aaaaaarghhh!

    • @Benedettini93
      @Benedettini93 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@waswolltihr1526 That's normal, because those gearboxes are actually semi-automatic. But yeah, as you have just said ETS2/ATS logic is too dumb yet for correct & effective shifting.

    2:38 Very early shifting, like whoever-the-driver-is had done before with 6-speed. If he had better information about power and torque of that engine, he wouldn't ever shift up before 1.900 rpm (or 2.000, even 2.100 is good) and the 0-70 could've been under 45 seconds for sure. His shifting is not effective.

    • @jonzzuuj1712
      @jonzzuuj1712 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      His shifting is good. With a big load truck will accelerate using torque, not power and in real life this motor has best torque until 1400rpms and then it gets lower.

    • @TGMStefa
      @TGMStefa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Yes that's true i wasn't too aggressive on RPM as how i should it is my mistake. But still it proves that shifting manually gets you faster than Automatic shifting

    • @Benedettini93
      @Benedettini93 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@TGMStefa Power and Torque are actually combined for overall output. Torque gives the best pull-power, that's true (+ economical) . But up to maximum HP which is around 1900-2100 rpm, then the truck will be pushing harder by more power but less torque (parabolically increasing consumption) yet keeping the momentum high. Nevertheless you still prove that manual is much better in ETS2 ;) Even real automatic mode is shit in this sim imho.

    • @TGMStefa
      @TGMStefa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Benedettini93 Yes you are right, i was actually looking at the max power output of the engine which is at 1900rpm (730hp) and so i tried to do changes between 1400-2000rpm for best performance. I did lot of test before with this one in video and i did way better but simply due to fact my partner was in hurry we didnt have much time for redoing so i had to include those videos, It was all in one go and it was my mistake for not shifting later btw Thank you again for your informative comment it is always pleasure for me

  • @JesseEder
    @JesseEder 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Well, manual is slightly better because you can choose at what engine speed you want to change gears, the automatic is only limited so it changes on what is set to so, in this case, the automatic will change gear at 1500 RPM the only time it will go over 1500 is when your obviously pulling a load uphill but with manual you can choose to want RPM you want to change gear & you can obviously rev the engine higher with manual then auto but then it again auto is easier but sometimes when you want to go higher with the revs you can't with an auto because it's only set to change gear at a certain RPM with manual so can choose go higher RPM's if you need to so I prefer manual a bit more then auto. And great video as well.

    To proper test the automatic and manual transmissions you should change the option 'Adaptive automatic transmission' in the Options menu and set it to 'Power Mode' when in automatic. With this setting the engine will rev up to 20 revolutions just like you shift in manual.

      in manual you only shift at 2000 rpm when you either have a 6-speed or you really need power. in 12 and 14 speeds you shift around 1500 rpm when changing a whole gear or around 1250 when you shift half a gear. at least when going economical. if you still go power you even shift the half gears around 1500 rpm. that simply is because of the engines torque peaks at around 1400 rpm

      That's the point, the automatic "should" be faster in a straight line due to precise shifting points but isn't.
      Driving on twisty roads is just gonna slow it down even more due to constant acceleration and deceleration required to move successfully through a corner. Also shifting speed isn't a factor since it's a sequential, only the RPM at which the shift happens.

    Manual is the way to go unless it's a heavy haul using crawlers and hills. Otherwise just learn how to use a gearbox and get used to the power band of each gear in your truck. Manual is faster all the way but heavy cargo takes some getting used too because of the clutch.

    • @CrazyBikerGuy
      @CrazyBikerGuy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is even including the fact you cheated the auto out of it really because you set the auto to standard and so it cant rev that's the only reason with even your bad shifting it pulls away the tiniest amounts.

    • @SoggyToast506
      @SoggyToast506 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruno Eduardo there’s not a major difference between these two of you look at the times, but manuals get up to speed quicker that automatic’s, automatic gearbox’s (transmissions) change gears quite early so they aren’t always accurate, but with manual you can easily gain more speed easier once from low gears then obviously shift up to high. I’m not like an engineer or a car mechanic so I’m not really sure how they gear functions properly work with why higher gears make it gain speed slower. Also like it’s 3:31am in the morning and like I woke up like 2 hours ago soo my brain is still half asleep.
      But in manuals you have more control with the car and the gears as well as the speed, with an automatic you don’t. But as much as a automatic is easier and useful manuals will always still be the best, but as time goes on manuals won’t be a thing anymore everything will be automated, but if anything malfunctions there will always be a manual override. So yea maybe manuals would kinda still be a thing. And you usually can have more gears in a manual than a automatic, such as a H-Shifter you have a little knob or switch on the gear stick where you can split the gears, to give you up to 20 or so gears. It just splits the gears in half.

      I'd go for sequential/manual H-shift (doesn't matter) for both best performance and best consumption. Eco-mode doesn't upshift before 1.500, in reality it does. When cruising with my FH13 500 equipped with 12 speed, I upshift around 1.250 when pacing, and when at cruise speed I keep my rpm around 900-1100 (doing 78kmh at 1000), with 20 tonnes I could achieve 18.5l/100km in Germany.

    Make it real next time. There is one thing: Making the Allison manual in game options does not make it manual. You only decide when it shifts, but ... thats not how that works. In real life, Allison 4500R is fully automatic double-clutch transmission with hydrodynamic torque converter, therefore it shifts the gears without losing the acceleration (it shifts AND accelerate simultaneously). But you simply can't do that with manual transmission. When you decide to shift, you have to disconnect the gear from the engine, change the gear, and connect it back. It results in losing the acceleration for a moment. Exactly the same shifting procedure is valid for automated transmission, only the gear stick is missing. Finally, the game enables to make the Allison be manual, but this is a nonsense. It is intended to be automatic and the developers know that. You can prove yourself. Take your truck with Allison, choose automatic gearbox mode in game options, stand still and force the gearbox to start on the second gear or higher. As you throttle up, the torque converter will provide smooth acceleration until certain speed is achieved. After then the converter locks and the transmission will operate in the direct mode (rpm drops but the gear remains the same). Automatic transmission should be and actually IS always more effective and faster the the manuals.

    • @ram89572
      @ram89572 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      His tests were comparing acceleration and pulling power in game between using the game to decide when and how to shift versus using a sequential manual for a human to best determine when to shift. The whole point of the test is to see how bad or good the game logic is at shifting. The difference in how automatic, automated, and manual works in real life has no bearing on this test

  • @karma4859

    In my opinion automatic is trash in this game. I use keyboard to play so when I hit the throttle it’s full on flooring it. And if I want to just drive slowly under 31mph speed limit, I’ll end up hitting that throttle a lot and with auto, each time I do this thing shifts up then shifts down when I release the throttle. I find that to be annoying. Also when on a grade it takes too long to shift down so you end up losing a lot of momentum. It’s not faster than manual that’s for sure.

    • @mozar94
      @mozar94 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I play on keyboard and use manual shifter too! because i find it way more fun than just boringly holding a W and do nothing, i also use mouse for steering so i can do really small and precise maneuvers you could try it out!
      small tip for you: you can use cruise control and the truck will maintain what ever speed you pressed the button at with out holding w! (it defaults C on keyboard if am not mistaken) .

    • @karma4859
      @karma4859 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MOZAR I’m well aware my friend. I use cruise control all the time when I’m on freeways/autobahn. I know every trick to the game so don’t worry. But I use the arrow keys to drive, brake and steer. The reason I don’t use the cruise control under 31mph limits (all the time) is just by preference.
      I don’t know about mouse steering though. I’ve tried, not really for me.

      It's not about power, Manual transmissions provide complete control of truck's power and you choose accordingly it fits right, where as in automatic transmission the truck's transmission will decide according to what it feels right and theres not much of customized changing of gears as one does in a manual transmission

      Jan Šoukal it he did real automatic then yes it’ll be worth it, simple automatic it’s like Arcade automatic, real automatic is like well as it says proper automatic, then there’s manual Sequential or H-Shifter.

      Realistically speaking when driving a truck you shouldn’t always aim for high rpm gear changes. You burn through more fuel that way and also wear out your gearbox.
