    It is such a treat to hear a foreign pilot speaking good English and an ATC who speaks slowly and clearly

      But irritating ATC can't convert kilos to pounds

      Finnish people (especially young people) are pretty good at speaking English these days and will be in the future. The social media in Finland is not that big so basically everyone listens and watches in English so they are developing good English.

    She wasn't overweight, she's just big boned.

    As a Finn, I was expecting the accent to be much thicker, nicely done nonetheless.

      Normally that's the case but these guys flying intercontinental are their best of the best.

      They always do. The issue was that he didn't hear him the first time. The standard quick calculation of 2.2 lbs/kg is easy enough.

    You know finniar 16 heavy is super unoucky with the landing gear because i just saw another video of another finnair 16 heavy having the same problem bit that one was an a350-900

    Is it normal to pronounce remaining fuel in poounds? i kinda feel like the americans just keep hating the metric system. Hilarious when the captain says can only say kilos!

    Why did they not take 31L since it’s longer

    • @N1120A

      Probably because they didn't need it.

      @@N1120A And in case of emergency, they did not have to risk their longer departure runway. Planes need longer distance to takeoff compared to landing.

    Honest question. Why were they given the shorter 31 runway when they were overweight?

      31R is still a long runway at 10,000 ft or 3048 m.

    Probably a stupid question but what would have happened if they continue the flight with the protracted landing gear? Would it just impact flight speed?

    • @max_libin
      @max_libin ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It would prevent an airplane to gain speed -> vertical speed -> altitude and will require even more fuel burn because of the wind resistance of the landing gear.

    • @incremental_failure
      @incremental_failure ปีที่แล้ว +10

      More fuel required, they would run out of fuel mid-atlantic I think.

    • @N1120A
      @N1120A ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It would significantly increase fuel burn, while simultaneously significantly decreasing cruise speed and max altitude. They might have made it to Greenland, but why do that? Also, it would have been really loud.
