Great to hear you are back at home. Don't over do it. I know it's probably hard for you to just be able to sit and relax because you are such an active person. But the more you can take care of yourself now, the quicker you will be able to get back to your routine.
I had a total hysterectomy (robotic) a few months after enduring 5 weeks of radiation. I know everyone is different but I had no pain at all and used none of the pain meds prescribed. I felt great after just a few days so much I had to be conscientious that I was on restrictions and not to overdo it. I feel blessed that my recovery was this smooth...
That's encouraging. I have that surgery in a week.
I know recovery is hard, just don't overdo once you start feeling somewhat better. When I had mine and it was the greatest gift, I have ever given myself.

Oh wow Jennifer! You're the gal in the know 😊 My surgery was 12 days ago and I'm home recovering now. Everything I talked about in the video was so useful and absolutely needed. I'm glad I was prepared because it made everything easier and gave me piece of mind.
Will keep you in my prayers🙏. So many of us have had hysterectomy surgery theses days. Laparoscopic is so much easier to recover from than an open procedure. So glad you can have it laparoscopic surgery. You have been given excellent pre-op instructions. Constipation after surgery is the worst if you develop it. Your husband will take good care of you❤️

You simply can't discount the importance of hour husband! After my accident, it was my husband who was my rock and who really likely saved my life. So many times, I felt like "letting go" and to just stop fighting. My husband wouldn't let me do that. I don't know that I'd have survived (and recovered as well as I did) without him. He was biggest cheerleader during painful physical therapy, but wouldn't let me slack off at home and would make me do the painful exercises at home. I wasn't real happy with him right at that moment, but if I hadn't done that, my recovery wouldn't have been as good. And when I got home from the hospital, my dogs and cats being with me in bed or on the couch made such a huge difference. They were the best nurses I could have ever had.

I also had a total hysterectomy years ago, they have come a long way preparing before and after, they used to keep you in the hospital a couple days now they kick you out 😀 the ride home could be uncomfortable I laid my seat way back almost into a bed that really helped,good luck tomorrow🙏
You are gonna do great. I had a full abdominal hysterectomy 4 years ago. It wasn't that bad. They went in through my C-section scare I already had. I also had a Hernia repair done at the same time I had to work with 2 surgeons to make it happen and they both agreed to do it so I was very fortunate. You got this you're gonna do great you're so strong and healthy. I am praying for a quick recovery for you.❤🙏

Hi Renee. I had a complete hysterectomy when I was 49. Don’t be surprised if you still have “period symptoms” for a few months post surgery. My doctor said sometimes it takes a while for your body to deal with the changes. It took me about 6 months before I was symptom free. But….you will feel much better after the surgery. Prayers for a speedy recovery. 🙏🏻
Yes...today actually I have what feels like mild menstrual cramps. Strange! But now I know....thanks for the info!

I just had my complete hysterectomy an I did watch your videos before hand. I'm into my 4th day and am watching your videos again to compare my issues. I can't believe it but you are spot on with the way things are progressing and what I'm going thru. Thank you for helping me out and encouraging me the dos and don'ts I should not be doing. 5 days post op robotic hysterectomy and pelvic prolapse repair. Had 2 surgeons- 1 for hysterectomy and 1 for pelvic repair. Surgeon instructions included taking Gas X the night before the surgery and as needed after. Although pain meds were prescribed, I chose to take Tylenol or ibuprofen instead. So far they have done the job. As well as the stool softeners and Mirlax. Doing good, now the hardest thing is to remember not to pick up heavy items. Very thankful for the robot! Good luck!

Renee, your so well prepared and informed. I had my hysterectomy in August. I’m a RN and my only advice to you is to be compliant and follow your surgeon’s instructions, which I’m certain you will do. Prayers and wishes for a comfortable recovery. ❤

I’m doing very well. Just remember your body needs time to heal. You may want to push yourself, thinking that will help you recover more quickly, but your physiology has a different time frame. You will be impressed how well you will do. For me, the first 2-3 days were uncomfortable and slow moving. I did use my pain meds as prescribed during that time, then didn’t need it after that. They applied an abdominal binder while in the hospital and that was very helpful and kept me comfortable for days later. Glad you got the abdominal pillow for the ride home, will make a big difference. Don’t forget to drink lots of fluids, I know you know that 😉.
I know you are already recovering but it's nice to see the step by step videos. I'm sure they will really be a help to people. Can't wait for the day of video.
I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy in 1992. The Da Vinci procedure was cutting edge at the time. With the exception of a laxative, I don't recall any of that preliminary stuff although they did warn me about the painful gas pockets which I had in my shoulders. I also recall very severe cervical pain for a few days to a week. After that, my recovery was amazingly quick. I was an avid roller blader at the time and was back at it in 3 weeks! Happy to hear you're on the upswing. Have a great Spring and Summer!! ❤
Wow, that’s quite the list. I’m pretty positive that they just told me to show up..lol Luckily, it wasn’t a big deal,except for the incision hurt, so you’ll be great but having it done laparoscopicly. I had that with my gall bladder surgery, and having my stomach blown up was actually the only pain I felt. Not really pain, just so uncomfortable. Good luck!! 🍀
Good for you- So glad you are home and getting back to normal. It took me about 2 weeks before I felt normal again. I was lucky and did not need my pain meds after my hysterectomy. I look forward to hearing about your recovery. Hugs!

I found the video where you explained the big reason why you chose this route. I would have done the same thing if those abnormal cells were found. Prayers for a quick smooth recovery!

I was supposed to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy as well but someone in the OR miscounted surgical gauze and I had to be cut open as well! 5 hole scars and an incision that was 6 inches across. It was supposed to be a 4-6 hr surgery but ended up lasting 8 hrs. I was 34 years old and I recovered quickly. After 1 day I asked my GYN to change the daily hormone pill to the twice a week hormone patch. Best decision I ever made. Only 1 adjustment in dosage and I've been fine now for 25 years. Once things are leveled out for you, you'll be so happy not to have those past troubles. Get well soon!!

So glad that you are doing so much better. I am having mine on Tuesday. I'm thirty-seven and a manual wheelchair. I've been nesting all week preparing for surgery and recovery doing projects that I haven't wanted to do and the usual things. Going to change my sheets, clean my bathroom, vacuum, etc. on Monday. I have already food prepped several healthy things and froze them for recovery. I appreciate your suggestions.

My doctor would Not give me a hysterectomy! He said I need the hormones & didn't think it's worth it. I had alternate/temporary things instead. I'm So glad I listened to him. Being in my 50s menopause was right around the corner.

I've had several surgeries, and I hadn't heard about mints afterwards, that's a great tip! Also, gas relief pills are a must, because I had trapped gas in the chest area before - literally thought I was having a heart attack - I wasn't, but I still remember that from long ago. The travel pillow was an excellent idea too - can't be too prepared for something like this!! Saw your facebook posts, I'm glad your surgery went well and want to hear all about it in your next video!
Hi Missy! That little travel pillow is a MUST HAVE! My surgery was 12 days ago...and I still use that pillow every time I get in the car. Plus I grab it if I have to cough or sneeze. It's a lifesaver! And yes....the trapped gas is bad. It was in my shoulders on Day 1....and it aches horribly.
About 20 yrs ago, I had laparascopy surgery to remove my gallbladder and the trapped gas was excruciating - I thought I was having a heart attack as well, but no one told me about gas pills ... information is power!

I had a total hysterectomy a few months ago but due to them thinking I had cancer, I had to have the abdominal surgery where they cut you open and take everything in one piece. My experience wasn't great after and I actually have PTSD from it. I hope no other woman has to ever have to go through what I went through. I had bad doctors with bad beside manners in a hospital that wasn't great. I'm glad you had doctors that prepared you. Thanks for sharing your journey.

I just had an abdominal hysterectomy am in so much pain it's not even funny I had it on the 23rd of August but the pain is too unbearable 😢😢

Mate - I'm so sorry to hear that. Just had a very traumatic abdominal surgery. The surgery itself went great but observation was horrific and traumatic and entirely senseless. I hope you're managing yourself as best as you can.

Oh my goodness how wonderful your doctor had these great tips for you! I was kinda blindsided, I had 2 days to "prepare" for my Divinci Full Hysterectomy when I was about 25 years old. I was also in terrible pain the three weeks before. Like, I can't stand straight or lay straight pain. I took ibuprofen the first two days after, and then extra-strength Tylenol a few times after that. I feel like recovering from my belly button piercing was worse! You are going to do fantastic through this, I'm sure you will just wish you had done it sooner. I can hardly wait until you feel like a brand-new energetic and healthy woman. You have suffered way too long. I'll be thinking of you and sending love your way... Starting now!
I had a total abdominal hysterectomy about 8 years ago now and I also recommend a nice hot/cold water bottle next to your bed too. I had one for hot tea and the other for water. I also used a pillow as a splint to get up and to help me sit back down. I don’t know if they recommend it (I’m a RN but have been away from the bedside for a while) I had an abdominal binder and boy was it nice. It helped me feel like everything was sucked in if that makes sense. But of course do what you’re surgical team recommends. Good luck with your recovery. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Im glad i found your channel. I go on, June 20, for a complete hysterectomy. Im 46. Premenopausel.. My periods are horrible, the cramps are unbearable. Ive birthed 5 kids. 3 C-sections and 2 vaginal.

I wish you the best and I will pray for a successful, quick surgery. You are fully prepared and with family and dogs on your side, you will do well afterward. Just gotta tell Pollux that he can't jump on Mom. When I had my wrist surgery (twice) - I had to keep my hand away from the doggies. It is definitely harder to keep a tummy out of the way. Also....you may see a difference in your hair after your surgery. The anesthesia can cause your hair to get super dry and dull. The cells in your hair follicles are among the fastest growing in your body and also the most sensitive to changes. Because of this, they are strongly impacted by anesthesia, and you may notice changes to your hair almost immediately. I've had a few surgeries (local and general anesthesia) and I saw a big difference in the texture of my hair after...as well as shedding a bit more than normal. The stress of the procedure as well as the change in hormones can cause some hair damage and/or loss so I would suggest (once you're able to shower) using a deep conditioner or hair mask to help hydrate and repair the damage right away. And these changes can last a number of months. I hope this info helps...keeping you in prayer!
I had a surgical uterine biopsy and I was under general anesthesia. As my hair has grown out I have noticed the texture is wonky. Even my hairstylist noticed. I am set for a total hysterectomy in four weeks and I suspect I will have similar issues again.
oh my goodness, I never realized! I had anesthesia twice over the summer and have confused as to why my hair feels thinner

Oh Barbara! I'm sorry to hear that. My mother had Stage 1 uterine cancer...and I had abnormal cells in my cervix. Add that to my enormous fibroid...and that's why I had a total hysterectomy. Hopefully you will get good news from your CT scan and the hysterectomy will take care of the issue 💗

Best of luck to you. I had a hysterectomy in the early 90's, and it was done vaginally. Somehow, that seems like it would make for an easier recovery. Your surgical team is way on the ball for you. I wish i had your hair.

I will make a note that My Dr said not to shave anything 5-4 days up to the surgery. due to any open mini wounds that might be open for infections. There are a lot of super bugs that might get in from hospital. Thanks again for sharing!

This is super helpful. Thank you. I am having a total hysterectomy in four weeks and I’m very nervous about it. I am making a checklist. I think it’s a good idea that you suggested trying out the MiraLAX to see how your body responds and to do it before surgery. I’m going to pick some up tomorrow and give it a try.
how did it go? I'm 41 and having one in 3 weeks. I'm starting to feel super scared about the menopause
@@aubsesque it went better than expected. Surgery itself was about four hours. The first few days I walked around slowly but I was able to get around. I had a one day supply of heavy duty pain medicine and you 600 mg ibuprofen after that which really helped. The MiraLAX is great. I had neighbors help me take my trash out because I couldn’t lift the bag. I was already passed menopause so I have had no symptoms so I can’t speak to what you will experience if you are having your ovaries taken out. Like I said I was already a couple of years past menopause. I waited two weeks to drive to give my body extra rest and then a total of six weeks before going back to work. I’m so glad I did it. No more ginormous fibroids and no more pain. Wishing you the best with your upcoming surgery.

I’m so glad I found your videos. I’m scheduled for laberscopic surgery on March 1 - enlarged uterus and large fibroid. Mine is 9.7 cm. They said they will start out as laberscopic but it might turn into open.

Thank God You're okay! My colon ruptured during surgery and I woke up to a colostomy bag. Hysterectomy was estimated to be a 3 day stay in the hospital, ended up being in hospital for over a month and years of recovery after. If you take Miralax prior to surgery and you do not clear out your bowels, do not let them do surgery on you. They are not supposed to..so don't let them.
Were they able to repair your colon or do you still have the colostomy bag?

I held them to it! haha My first doctor appointment at that 6 months mark, I was asking "So do I get to get this removed now?" and the doctor said "No, let's give it more time to heal" so I was bummed but I understood. 3 months later at another appt. I asked again, they said "No, give it more time" After 3 more months I got mad and finally they scheduled a surgery which was about 3 months after. So I did all the things prior to surgery, took a series of pills, couldn't eat, had to take meds to clear my colon and drink a gallon of that awful stuff to improve imaging..then as I was about to walk out the door, the doc office calls and says they have to reschedule. After all that! 3-6 months later I'm doing all those prescriptions again to prepare for surgery and I callled them because I was struggling to drink all that yucky imaging stuff and asked if it was okay if I didn't drink the last few ounces cause I was afraid I'd barf. She said "Oh, I'm glad you called, we were about to call you! We have to cancel your surgery until your thyroid is better" ugh!
@@kyliefire5008 So then I worked with another doc to get my thyroid in check and found a different surgeon. I had about 2 appts with him and saw a specialist at his request and then they did my surgery, so I wake up and I still had a bag! I freaked! The doc explained that he has to do my surgery in 2 parts. So this first part gave me an ileostomy first..I had the same hole, but they connected a different portion of the intestine. Then a few months later, they FINALLY reconnected my colon and removed the bag. It was so weird to use my butt for the first time in like 3-4 years. When I said "3 months later" (while telling my story,) it was sometimes 7 months but this whole experience changed me, my life, my marriage. It was horrible. I had so many bad embarrassing situations with my colostomy bag. One time it exploded on a road trip so I was covered in crap for 6 hours i someone else's car and had to be hosed down and throw away my clothes at our destination. Another time it exploded when I slept so I was in the bathroom crying and my husband knocked on the door and asked if I needed anything "Can you bring me some clothes please?...sooocccks tooo"--just crying..but we still laugh about "socks too"--even though we're divorcing now.
Wow things has changed alot since the late 90's when I had my partial hysterectomy at the age of 29. I was going to suggest a pillow or a rolled blanket but you got that covered. 👍 You will be in my prayers🙏 God bess

When I bought the Miralax, I just wasn't sure about it. But it works great! And I'll be getting so it will always be in my cabinet.

I mentally had to do all those things when I had my hysterectomy also. 😁 Take the time to allow yourself to recover and enjoy being menstrual free. You will be amazed on how great you feel after recovery. 💗

YAY! No more periods! I was so happy about that BUT what I wasn't told is when you take the engine out of the car, you have to push it all the way to the store, meaning I went from frisky to no thank you. That isn't the fun part of this. I had to remind hubby is wasn't him and told him the car analogy. It's really hard to get a car moving down the road without an engine. Just know that ahead of time so you aren't surprised if that is your issue Renee. I do take care of my husband and things are just fine, a little different but fine. Congrats on this procedure and I hope everything went well.

Your pre-op information was great! I thought I was going to get to sleep for the first two days! But oh no, the instructions want you up and moving. I’ve gone to naturopaths for 45 years so I don’t never have taken an aspirin. I felt I didn’t need anything but knew you didn’t want the pain to get ahead of you. I took nothing after the first day. Nothing the doctor told her to take, helped my daughter get her bowels moving, so I told her to do an enema and that released the “plug” they talked about!
Super random questions for anyone on here to answer: 1) underwear what type/style was best post surgery 2) hair in "that" region , did you all shave ? 3) diet before (not like the preop surgery stuff more like a month before, any special diet? 4) what did you all eat after ?
Hi! My answers....1) I wore my regular bikini underwear. Anything that hit higher would be touching the incision areas and would hurt 2) left it alone...did nothing special for the surgery. 3 + 4) I ate normally pre-surgery and post-surgery
Howdy from snowy Michigan. This is my first time commenting 😊. I stumbled upon your channel after your Christmas crack video appeared out of the blue. I immediately made it that day and I have been addicted to it, the dogs, and your interesting channel ever since. I am still playing catch up😵💫. Anywho, I was the proud recipient of a total hysterectomy at age 29 due to endometriosis, fibroids, adhesions, and who knows what else. Turns out, I have autoimmune disease, but that wasn’t figured out until 20 years later when other things surfaced. I’ll be 59 in July and currently in remission after losing my colon 2 years ago. Back to the topic…at 29, I was catapulted into surgical menopause😵💫…HRT did the trick, and later I was taken off after my Gyn told me that the pituitary gland would begin to release some estrogen. Apparently it did because I have been hot flash free ever since. The neatest thing about the whole experience was the distinguished honor of being the one questioned by and telling my late Mother all about what to expect when she had her total hysterectomy 7 years after me😛. I am now telling my Sister who will turn 60 next month. Okayyyyy the rambling has begun, so I will end it here. Good to meet ya 👋….back to lurking…Bye everybody.

My hysterectomy and bladder tuck and tie was 3 weeks ago. I have done quite well. Just obey your dr's instructions.

My surgery is Dec 29 and it will be an incision down the middle of my tummy. They are going to try to save my ovaries. I’m 42. I’ll be in hospital for 3 days.
Wish I had your surgeon.. getting any info outof mine is like pulling teeth. I asked if I should buy gas X for after the surgery and she said no, i wont need it.. turns out I will. I asked if i could take vitamin D the day before surgery and they said no and not to take it for the ten days before surgery.. even tho studies have shown that patients without vitamin d have more complications and recover slower (vitamin d is not a blood thinner nor does it interfere with anesthesia) I asked for information about my surgery.. what they were removing for certain.. how they were going to look for cancer in case it had metastasized (i have endometrial cancer).. things like that.. they sent me a paper on how to take a bath the night befor and how to do a bowel prep and that's it. I received no pre-surgery cleaning kit, no ensure.. I was told not to eat/drink anything except a bottle of gatorade the night before. OH and as a nice touch I have to bring my own crackers/jello since recently my hospital was cited and sued for nasty practices in their kitchen.. as well as dirty surgical instruments. My surgery is in 11 days.. I'm having the same thing you had done.. hysterectomy with salpingo oophorectomy.. I'm preparing my house by doing swedish death cleaning so in case I dont survive or come out with severe detriments, my family will have less to take care of regarding my apartment. Because I really dont expect to survive this. They really dont know their butt from their elbow and if i had time i would try and find a different surgeon at a different hospital but I can feel the cancer spreading.. I was told by my gyno in december that I likely had cancer.. its now september and they are just now getting around to the surgery. thx for sharing these tips to those of us with asshats for surgeons that have no compassion or common sense.
