  • Mike buys a somewhat rare Silver Audi S4 Avant for just $7000 due to an oil leak from an unknown source in the engine, but with Ants mechanical skills, the oil leak is fixed and the rest of the engine is optimised.

The problem is in how they don’t focus air time to the mechanical aspect of the show like they once did when Edd was around I honestly can care less about the buying and selling part of the show and this guy just don’t connect with the audience...

People will hate what they aren’t used to. It was the same with electric cars and when top gear switched hosts. It’s just one of those things that’ll always be present in people.

Most modern cars are fairly similar in doing this kind of work give or take. Actually as this engine is inline and not transverse the job of the timing belt and other belts is alot easier as theres more space working on the front of the exposed engine and not trying to cram your hand down the side if it was a transverse engine(meaning everything at the front of this engine would be at the side)

Everyone talks crap about how unreliable B5's are but they're awesome car's if you maintain them properly. The maintenance looks daunting but I saw a bunch of dudes at S4RW a few years back do the exact same job in a parking lot in under an hour. The car was racing that afternoon.

  • @alabinibop

The video is a good insight into carrying out this job. However, the first time I did the crankshaft seal I lubed it with engine oil (as instructed above) and it slipped in with little resistance.
After putting it all back together and starting the engine I had a huge oil leak around that seal.
I then discovered from a different source that suggests you aren't supposed to lube the seal before installation. I removed it all again and tried a different seal (corteco) without lube and there was a lot of resistance this time. And now it doesn't leak. I hope this helps someone.👍

If you think that this is bad, try changing a crank sensor O ring,, or worse, the knock sensor on a supercharged mini cooper. Then once you're there you reach the point where you may as well change the water pump, the bypass valve, thermostat, and fit a reduced pulley to the charger, and new serpentine belt, and belt tensioner, and idler pulley, and idler pulley seal, and new radiator ballast resistor...and service the supercharger.

I would suggest anyone doing a 2.7t timing shouldn't skip on using the crank lock pin. The plastic crank cover mark is to get you close to tdc and then inserting the crank lock pin gets you to exact tdc. Not using it is cutting out an important step.
The owner is going to hate you for installing a squeaky Gates belt.
And you are going to want to put RTV on each of the bottom corners of the new valve cover gaskets.

I've inserted a crank lock pin with the crank pully marks and cover marks way off.

@@jonasthemovie you're supposed to put it on top of the gasket aswell. he also didn't replace the cam tensioner half moons and gasket either, which tend to be a culprit for leaks..

Why are german cars so over engineered? Most car removing a few parts gets you to the problem.

Most german cars too, but Audi is a "premium" - Brand with "premium" repair bills

They are overengineered where they should be simple: access to engine components or cup holders for instance, but under engineered when they shouldnt be..ie: plastic sumps, no dipsticks to check oil, and stupid design flaws such as the BMW E46 boot floor ripping itself to pieces.
