Pretty sure you're supposed to give them all a pass at 30ft/lbs and then a second pass at 45ft/lbs. Otherwise what's the point of tightening each bolt to 30, pausing, then going to 45?
Replacing only head bolts once the coolant has already leaked through the layers of the head gasket ? Not advisable but was a good quick fix all the same
I would agree if it was a head gasket failure in the first place that caused the leak, but being that it was just a loose headbolt that means the gasket itself is fine, it just wasn't squeezed together properly. This repair will have no issues for many years to come
You are suppose to perform the first around of the torque sequence at 35. Then on the second round 45. Not 35 then 45 on each one. One round at a time. Then run it and torque angle it to 45 while running at a warmed up temp. That's how we did it at the Dealership. By the way I'm not knocking him cause i actually think he is a great mechanic. That's just the way iris showed us how to do it. (Iris) was the manual Saab used just like S.I (service instruction) for general motors.

How bizarre they do a car they’ve already done with Edd China!
