Great explanation
Thanks man I appreciate that!
Good job.
Thanks man that means a lot. Much appreciated!
just to be pendantic... the model NAMES are boxster, cayman and 718 (718 Cayman and 718 Boxster)
all the other numbers are generations, not models. you're using the generation number interchangeably as "model" which adds confusion. the 718 generation number is 982.
Porsche decided to rename these cars 718 to pay homage to an older mid engine car but to come in line with the nomenclature of the 911. going forward, there are two models of sports cars, 718 and 911. both of these models have an additional modifier whether its a coupe, convertible (cayman or boxster) and its trim level (base, s, gts, gt4, spyder etc)
Good point, sorry about that. You’re right the model names are Cayman and Boxster. Not to be mixed with the generations that are the numbers. That wasn’t pedantic, it’s a good point. Sorry if that added confusion, I didn’t intend to. Also I just want to add I believe not only was the name 718 to pay homage for the mid engine car used in Le Mans it was also because that racecar was a flat 4 cylinder as well and with the 718 generation they first introduced the flat 4 cyl engine in the 718 cayman/boxster. I’m sure you knew I just figured I’d add this just for anybody else that comes across this comment!
