@@JasonDainter your method was way better than mine. I just taped a couple of heavy 🔒’s on it and that seemed to work. But your idea is way better and I doubt it would void the warranty. Unlikely they would even notice
I literally got this error two times in a row just now, and googled and found this vid. Worked a charm, and I closed the lid and it started right back up. That lid feels super loose though, unless that was just from the pins making poor contact.
Why was this the fix? Like I thought about it but was like no way that would work they should be at the proper height to make contact...y lord. Thank you for this mate!
@@JasonDainter my new issue is my Roomba thinking it's falling off a cliff when it's not 🤣 and I factory reset it only to now have an issue with connecting it back to the app 🤣🤣🤣
Nice! Their support pretty much told me to do the same thing. Lift the pins using a paper clip. I've had to do it again several times since then. Just started acting up again today. Obvious design flaw. I may opt to contact them again and have them fix it this time though.
Haven’t tried this fix yet but I will. For a very quick fix you can also hold the lid down above the contacts and hit the clean button/start a clean from the app. You can let go as soon as it starts up and it does the job as usual. It doesn’t help if you are trying to start remotely but I do this and walk out the door to work.
Wouldn't surprise me, would basically sum up the overall professionalism of iRobot. In the end this exact model totally died and turns out they were all faulty. Eventually got a refund but took way too long and way too much yelling at them. Go with a Roborock new S7 its 10000% better.
@@JasonDainter Unfortunately, the fix only lasted for one short trip, and then I couldn't make it work again. However, because of this video, I at least know what is going on (which I didn't before), so I've ordered a new sensor, and I might try to do a sodering fix on it. In the mean time, my fix involves making my Roomba run around with a big giant rock on it to so there is enough pressure to get a connection.
@@seanaevelyn7518 if it works with pressure on it, it should be possible to pull those pins up enough to make contact. Not sure what you mean by a new sensor, this thing isn't a sensor its an electrical contact. Its quite fiddly but you just need to make sure those pins are high up enough and straight enough so they all make contact. If a weight works then they just need pulling up some more. Make sure they are clean also if need be sand them a bit with a file to make sure no dirt/grime is stopping the contact.
2 years later this is still saving Roomba's across the word! thank you!
😂 they really should pay me...

Wow. We had this issue for 6+ months but we used a weight to press it down. I will try your fix. Thanks
It works a charm! Good luck! 👍

haha glad to hear! :-D
This did the trick for me, I didn't even need pliers. Just cleaned the metal piece those pins touch on the underside of the bin door 👍🏼
Thank you!

You could do that as a quick fix. Problem will come straight back though so not super hard to bend up the pins so you dont have to do that again :-)

Welcome!
Just bought it and have the same issue. I guess I wil use pliers tu pull the pins
Yes some thin nose pliers will do it
You’re a legend thank you
welcome sir!
What about Roomba i7+ 🙏🏻
Thank you it’s working now
No problem
I added 4 oz of flat washers on top of the cover ~ problem solved.
Seems a lot more hassle and more risk itll break again vs simply pulling up the bend down contacts, but whatever floats your boat!
@@JasonDainter no risk just four large washers and gorilla tape. Pulling up the contacts it is possible to break them. That was my concern.
What if the metal pins are damaged itself?
Damaged in what way? Can you reshape them?
@@JasonDainter like missing and or pushed into the unit
I think you'll have to get them up somehow either taking the unit apart further or picking them up if that's possible.
It worked…
