When I was a kid (early 80's), my dad had an old Renault 4 (back in Europe) with 20 to 30 horsepower and it was enough to haul the whole family. This thing is a beast in comparison with 98 HP. ha ha :)
It’s also much heavier than that Renault :)

My 1980 VW Rabbit Diesel had 5 gears and a 48 hp engine. Did everything I ever asked of it, and got 70 mpg on the highway. At that time I drove from Toronto to Calgary for $45!! This car has TWICE that hp. What will I do with all the extra power?? It's all perspective . . .
It probably also weighs twice as much as your old rabbit 🐇

I ended up with one as a rental the other day and it's not too bad for in and around the city. Mind you getting onto the highway is a premeditated desition and once it's going you don't let off the gas especially near transports. Overall it's a good budget car if you need something only to go to work or school with. But desperately needs a turbo to round out that hesitant transmission.

Yes, the Spark is a good car. Is it Japanese quality... can't say as I've owned mine for a little over two years now. Seats are VERY comfortable, fiirm but comfortable. Engine purrs... you can tell it's engeneered properly. And mpg, let's just say 60mpg is definitely in the realm of possibility...

It would be interesting if they gave it the 1.4T engine from the Sonic which I wish they would have kept making. The 5 speed manual needs an extra gear as you mentioned.
That would have made it a fun hot-ish hatch :)

Driving a 2013 Spark and the Air Condition is not good. In AZ it's hot in the Summer and get it just to 79 inside if at all. Repairs on the AC already wasted 1 Grand over the years. Did Chevy fix the AC issues? I notice the new Sparks are smaller than the older Sparks like mine. For instance mine has cupholders left drivers door and right passenger door. I sat in a 2019 Spark a while back and it was noticable smaller and tighter. Also in 2021 power windows is a must and cruise control too. My 2013 has at least power windows. I like the miles per gallon on this car alot. Question for the next Spark is it possible to apply heat control film to the windows so that less heat enter the inside cabin?
This is Sparks last year...you prob could get those heat films aftermarket

City driving is great. 38 mpg. Not great for the interstate.

This car will pick up the women ;)....no seriously I don't mind little cars...and have never tried to impress anyone with my cars. If she gets me a to b keeps me dry and warm I'm good.
