If you'd like to react to a phenomenal live vocal performance, I would recommend "How great thou art" by Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill. Her voice and range are mind-blowing! 🤯
The princess in the story was to be married, but only agreed to marry the man who got the answer to her riddle right. Otherwise, he dies. The “forgotten prince” (the character who’d sing this in the opera) gave her a riddle back. What is my name? Answer correctly within a days time & I will turn myself over to you to be killed. If not, we marry. She sends all her guards into the town to find him or someone who knew him to basically intimidate the information out of them, hence “nessun dorma”- no one shall sleep. Until we get the info we need, we will run through this town essentially disturbing everyone’s slumber. Meanwhile, the “forgotten prince” sings this aria, which is essentially a declaration of determination to make him his wife. He will win the wager, because no one recognizes him or knows ones who he is. Basically a bunch of “get ready, woman, you WILL be mine!” 😆
His eyes when finishes the aria are just incredible. It's almost as if he's been singing from a higher dimension and he realises it at the end...WOW. For me, the greatest operatic tenor who ever lived. God rest his dear soul. ❤
My theory has always been that he went in not being 100% sure he could hit that B4 at the end because this was toward the end of his career and he'd been struggling with his health and his facial expression at the end is him being like "Holy shit! Holy shit! I did it! I still have it in me!"
I'm a metal head too and I have come to realise that metal and classical music are pretty much the same anyway. They both emits insane amounts of energy!
Same. It's such a shame he passed away before I got a chance to see him live. I would go to his opera wearing a Slayer t-shirt. Truly one the greatest voices humans have ever been blessed to hear.
I was lucky enough to see Pavarotti sing several times when I worked at Philharmonic Hall in Lincoln Center 50 + years ago. He always gave his all at every performance. I was a young Black Kid from The South Bronx, working my way through college. I worked at the box office, and when the shows began we closed, and I could take any empty seat in the hall. That's what makes music and empathy combined so wonderful. You don't have to understand what the artist is singing. The voice, the instruments and his body language alone tell you everything you need to know.
Wonderful, Aileen! In the opera Turandot, in this song, this aria, his character is wooing a famous princess who tests each of her suitors by asking them three riddles. If the suitor answers incorrectly he is executed. The singer is awaiting dawn when he will be asked the riddles. He is singing of his love for the princess and vowing that he will win. "I will win!!" is the final line of his song. For him it will be Love or Death. Thank you for sharing this beautiful performance. Pavarotti was truly a special voice. 😊
I believe that he has already correctly answered the three riddles but when the princess still does not want to marry him, he offers her a counter proposal: If she can correctly guess his name before sunrise, he will let her out of the contract. The princess orders all her subjects to work through the night to find the answer and the song conveys that "no one sleeps tonight."
Actually, he already answered all three riddles and got them right. Problem is, the princess still does not want marriage, thus, the character (Love) challenges the princess to guess his real name by dawn. The princess agrees, and does everything she can to get the name, even torturing an innocent servant named Liu. The song is called Nessun Dorma “none shall sleep” for the princess orders all of the nation that none shall sleep until she determines Love’s real name, lest the citizens be executed. If you read the lyrics, Pavarotti sings “my secret is hidden within me, but it shall be uttered upon your lips (a kiss)” , he stops singing and the opera sings “no one knows his name, thus we will all die.” Amidst their singing and their depressed tones in the aria, Pavarotti (the character Love) silences it all and commands night to vanish and for the stars to set, because victory shall be his by dawn. The song perfectly evokes what all the characters are going through, even the princess as at the start he sings “Nessun Dorma (none shall sleep), even you Princess.” It’s a beautiful song from an iconic opera, and Luciano Pavarotti did it the best by far. Rest in peace to the greatest tenor the world has been blessed to bear. ❤
I just love your reaction to an aria I grew up listening to since I was a little child. My parents are from Italy. My father, a classically trained musician, played in the symphony. I cried watching you react---cried like a baby despite hearing this too many times to count. I have personal friends who knew Luciano personally---you were correct in your descriptive of him. EVERYONE he ever came in contact with fell in love with him. He was full of life and was loved by the world. He will be forever missed. I thank God I got the chance to see him live. The Greatest Ever in my humble opinion. God Bless You and Thank you for sharing this wonderful video.
I’m 57, an Army Veteran and a Jazz musician, started in the 80s as a metal head. Every time I hear this, I cry. Such a gift to us. And you’re right, he was a very good human being. RIP!
Well from what I've learned about Pavarotti he was a simple man like from a century ago. Good hearted and a hard working polished artist. Could anyone ever compare? Your reaction added so much to listening to this. Which I have watched maybe hundreds of times now and weep nearly every time.
Pavarotti was one of the greatest tenors to have ever lived. We were blessed to have someone like him walk the face of the earth. Also, if you liked hearing this version of Nessun Dorma, you should definitely react to Franco Corelli’s version of Nessun Dorma. I highly recommend it.
'Nessum Dorma' --- the opera song performed last night at the RNC Convention after President Donald Trump's speech. This song was also played at the end of the 2002 movie "The Sum of All Fears" (Tom Clancy novel) when the good guys were "taking out the trash". As an FYI, the opera 'Nessum Dorma' translates to "None Shall Sleep". It's a song about overcoming obstacles and achieving victory. In the opera, the main character 'Calaf' boldly declares that no one will sleep that night since he's very determined to solve 3 complex riddles in order to win the love of a princess. Calaf also declares that he will win...he will overcome all obstacles. The song was also performed by Luciano Pavarotti at the opening ceremony of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. But my favorite rendition of the song is definitely from the 2002 movie, "The Sum of All Fears" as the bad guys who conspired to use false flag attacks as a pretext to start World War 3, are all eliminated. 😎
When i first witness the greatness of maestro luciano pavarotti performing nessun dorma is was immensely saddened and jealous of my past self having to know I'll never have such an experience ever again. As to God he is know only as Man but to man he is maestro o la voce. Rip maestro
The song's words are the following: Nessun dorma Nessun dorma Tu pure, o Principessa Nella tua fredda stanza Guardi le stelle Che tremano d'amore E di speranza Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me Il nome mio nessun saprà, no, no Sulla tua bocca lo dirò Quando la luce splenderà Ed il mio bacio scioglierà Il silenzio che ti fa mia (Il nome suo nessun saprà E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir) Dilegua, o notte Tramontate, stelle Tramontate, stelle All'alba vincerò Vincerò Vincerò No one sleeps You too, oh Princess In your cold room You look at the stars That tremble with love And with hope But my mystery is locked inside me No one will know my name, no, no On your lips I will say it When the light shines And my kiss will dissolve The silence that makes you mine (No one will know his name And we must, alas, die, die) Disappear, oh night Set, stars Set, stars At dawn I will win I will win I will win
Oooof! Now we are getting into an entirely new level of vocals. Something that is very specific and cannot really be compared to contemporary vocal performance.
On exceptionally rare occasions the right music meets the right musician in the right moment, and where those three beams of beauty intersect, we can just fleetingly catch a glimpse of heaven itself. This was one of those occasions. Much as I've seen opera aficionados argue--whether rightly or wrongly--that this was not Pavarotti's finest performance of the aria from a _technical_ point of view, I'd argue that it was in the meeting of the music, the musician(s, including the orchestra and choir under the direction of the great Zubin Mehta), and the moment that this performance was made one for the ages. Thank you for sharing the pure emotion of your reaction with us so frankly!
When my grandmother died this was one of the songs that was played at her funeral, and as a metalhead I'd never really paid any attention to music like this but I understood music and could really appreciate talent when I heard it. It took that environment at that moment for me to really listen to the song properly for the first time and I've never been able to hear it the same way since. Such an incredible performance.
You also should check out "The Three Tenors" (Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras), THE Tenors of the day and absolutely incredible together. Classical music is amazing, when i was young i could not care less about it, but over the years/decades my mind has completely changed on that. For me, music has to take you on a journey, tell a meaningful story and bring out the emotions that go with the story, this is why i love bands like Nightwish today, but that love stems from my love for classical performances, the vocalists, the instrumentals, the story telling... it's absolutely first class to me, and therefor... a big fan of Pavarotti as well, obviously.
Luciano was one of the greatest tenors of all time and he also did several opera/jazz cross over collabs. The aria „Nessun Dorma“ from Puccini‘s opera Turandot is one of his most famous performances. This was recorded on the mid nineties in a concert of „The three tenors“, where he sang with his fellow colleagues Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. The „vincero“-climax („I will win“) is one of the most famous pieces of opera.
Very important, I think, to note that you're hearing the work of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini (1858- 1924). He was a master of writing music (a practitioner of operatic realism) which drew emotional responses from audiences. Listen to "Un bel di" (facing loss of love) from Madama Butterly, "O mio babbino caro," (extreme behavior [comic]) from Gianni Schicchi, "Mi chiamano Mimi" (fragile beautiful Mimi) and "O soave fanciulla" (declarations of mutual love) from La Boheme. Along with "Nessun Dorma," they represent some of classical opera's greatest hits. Aileen, do more opera reactions!
My late grandmother used to play Paverotti when I was a child all the time so much that when it came to her funeral in 2006 this was the song we played.
It’s beautiful seeing your emotions and your reaction. I cry every time I listen to Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma. He is the greatest bel canto tenor singing the most beautiful melody ever written. 🥹
I have loved this tragic love song since first I heard it so many moons ago, and I loved your heart felt reaction too it. You seem to me, a beautiful person inside. I am very happy for your having listen to this wonderful rendition by maestro Luciano. Bravo! 🙏💖I
If I had a percentage of a percentile of talent that he posses, I’d be unstoppable 😤 Seeing the thumbnail and hardly 2 mins into the reaction, I just wanna give you a big ol hug with how you’re reaction to this ❤️
Wonderful reaction. If you want to react to other operatic pieces interpreted by Pavarotti, may I suggest you try ‘E lucevan le stelle’ and ‘Vesti la giubba’. Greetings from Italy. 👋🏻
To me this is the sound of victory!! If he survives till sunrise he wins! No hints to what he wins. Everyone can look it up. Great reaction. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe. Everyone!!
Well that was a cry along to one of the most beautiful songs by one of the most natural, powerful and effortless voices,he also had the most amazing smile,God bless him
And when you speak italian the words make it even more beautiful. He is saying at the end, dissapear the night , fade away the stars, at dawn I will win. He sings it with power and determination which makes me so emotional all the time. To me, whenever I am sad I listen to it and feel like never giving up!
When I was little music was one of my first loves and i did two things that wowed family and friends. I would reenact the conductor from Fantasia and imitate Pavarotti's singing. My parents especially my Father got me started early on great music. From BB King and Muddy Waters with the Blues, to Bach and Beethoven in Classical, and Pavarotti with opera. Nessun Dorma out of many amazing songs performed by Pavarotti was always his best, the power of his delivery was something. When I was in middle school we went on a field trip to the Met to hear Pavarotti sing at a dress rehearsal performance, that was a real treat. And kindness and good was always easy to see in Pavarotti's face which made it even easier to be a fan of his. Imagine the music being made by all the greats in heaven such as him..
@aileensenpai time to pick it up a notch. Mind listening to "Lost in the Dark" by "Left to suffer"? I have fallen in love with this band all of a sudden!
My dad listened to him all the time in the car as kids when he was taking us places and to hear you listen and appreciate him is so lovely . plus I love Bon Jovi, so your recent post was amazing.. you managed to react to father and son in 2 days in the best way. 🖤
And this is what he could do, just pulling the aria out of his pocket, out of context, at a gala concert. He could literally just deliver it on cue. That’s not being struck by lightning - that would be too facile. It’s not a special once-in-a-lifetime high point - he did this on any average evening, for decades. This is finely-honed, relentlessly practiced, supreme mastery. This is the real lesson of the greatest artists of all kinds, and it’s so often lost on audiences so fixated on “emotion”, “talent”, and other magical impressions: this is the result of WORK. With that in mind, the great ones can be appreciated as something far more impressive than just some lightning rod on legs. 👑👑👑
Hi Aileen greetings from The UK 🇬🇧 Pavarotti was the greatest Tenors of all time and you should see his dramatic operatic acting performance VESTI LA GIUBBA this is Pavarotti at his absolute best and the emotion he puts into this will have you in tears and its so worth watching and he passed away far too early.
"Nessun Dorma" is an aria from the opera Turandot, composed by Giacomo Puccini a hundred years ago. It's been "covered" by countless artists since then, but this was Pavarotti's signature aria.
I was at this concert at DODGER stadium in LA. If you are Hispanic, listen to Linda Ronstadt LA CIGGARA...she sang about 6 kinds of music. but aside from C&W, Pop, rock, opera, big band, she had the largest selling album in the history of mexico....
I’ve been listening to Luciano sing this since the BBC chose it as their theme for all coverage of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. It topped the charts in the U.K. if I’m not mistaken…I know I bought the CD single. Yet 34 years later it has the same effect, and I watch any and all reactions to it because you are not alone in your appreciation for the intensity of such a short piece of music.
This song was the theme for Italia 90, the football world cup in Italy and it brought it to worldwide attention , a beautiful song and the great voice of Pavarotti. Great that you covered it and liked it. A few cool songs for you to check out, if you want to. Led Zeppelin 'When the Levee Breaks' , Dire Straits 'Private Investigations' and ELO 'Evil Woman'-Colin Ward
Gracias por respetar y no cortar la canción para comentar y esperar a que termine, una maravilla así hay que disfrutarla,me ha gustado como te has emocionado
Hehe.. the ultimate power trip. Love the reaction. Recommend Pavarotti's 'E lucevan le stelle' 1978 live stage version(with caps if possible to give back story) Another is Pavarotti's 'Bella figlia dell'amore' 1982 stage FILM(not live) but this one might be hard to post with CR. This to me is like the battle of 4(voices) emotions. EDIT: also 'La Donna E Mobile' plays before it.. so 2 for one.. Hehe..
There’s a performance of “O Sole Mio” he does (I think at the Pavarotti Plus 86 concert) that is absolutely transcendent and breathtaking that I think would be a great follow up.
I'm no opera fan and know nothing about it but Pavarotti is my all time favorite male singer. The guy was simply amazing. Years ago PBS used to show a Christmas special he did in I think Montreal Canada. It was just unbelievable. Every year I still look to see if it will be shown that year, unfortunately I haven't seen it in maybe 15 years or so. Rest In Peace Luciano Pavarotti
I can proudly say i saw Pavarotti sing this aria twice. The first time a solo concert in Miami Beach, FL in 1995 and the second time for a Three Tenors Tour in '97 or '98. Legendary ❤
Luciano Pavarotti, began his career in the 60s until the 2000s. Giuseppe Di Stefano was his inspiration and he studied all his life to be the best Opera Singer Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingos, José Carreiras formed The Three Tenors World Success to this day.
2020 when COVID was killing people left right and center in Italy, particularly old people, and the Italian Air Force did a flyover with Nessum Dorma playing to send hope and strength. Powerful moment.
One of the few opera I've watched, at 1am on tv by curiosity, was a pleasant experience so I need to watch others. This song is so powerful, you can't forget it after hearing at the end of the play
So glad you finally got to experience the best tenor to ever grace the stage. This is an aria from the opera Turandot. It’s essentially the “forgotten prince’s” declaration of love for the coveted princess (different royal family lol) & his determination to have her for his wife. If I may be so bold, I’d like to suggest you also check out (even if you don’t release reaction videos for them) “la Donna e mobile”, “funiculi funicula”, “Caruso” & my personal favorite, “o sole mio”. One of the greatest love songs ever written. It was my grandmother’s favorite as well. It’s the one she showed me that turned me onto the maestro in the first place. Regardless, thanks for putting this one out. Have a great day!
I'm not into opera but was blown away by Pavarotti so much over a decade ago that I had to look more into it. After hearing him sing with Joan Sutherland the song "Parigi O cara" I had to look up the words and printed them out so I could sing along. I like the rhythm of that song. But for favorite video of him is with Bryan Adams singing "o solo mio". I can't help but smile the whole way though as Bryan has a kick butt voice but doesn't compare to Pavarotti and struggles a little, yet has a great time.
Some years ago, I was helping my grandmother learn to use her new iPad. After I installed the TH-cam app for her, the first thing she asked was if we could try to find a video of this specific performance. It was the first time I’d heard any opera outside of short excerpts in movies or on this tv show or that. As soon as Pavarotti started singing, I knew this was going to be special. From the look on your face, you felt the same.
He was a legend . Another song you would live is the tenors and Who Wants to Live Forever cover. It is very goth. When i was young i was a 1st tenor in 2 local theater groups and was in the chorus for the Cbadian Opera Productions . I was always amazed the power in the leads' voices. Thin about Pavarotti is he crossed genres too. He was amazing.
This is from Puccini's Opera. It's the story of a princess who refuses to be married. To discourage men pursuing her she states that anyone wanting her must answer 3 riddles, but anyone that tries and fails is beheaded. She kills many many men until Pavarotti's character comes along. He's loved her for very long and he successfully answers the riddles anonymously. She's absolutely furious and announces that no one is allowed to sleep that night until he is found and brought to her so that she could kill him. If they don’t find him, they will all be put to death. That’s why the chorus comes in to say they feel they will all die. This song is him somewhat mocking her "Nesun Dorma" = "none shall sleep" and announcing that he will win. The last two lines that were very powerful actually mean "I will win". Gorgeous opera and breathtaking song.
Just like we feel the loss of the great Pavarotti, we also feel the end of his last note. The void left by the absence of his voice is as as powerful as his voice. Such a boss.
Had to put an overlay due to heavy blocks in hope you all understand ❤

When i first witness the greatness of maestro luciano pavarotti performing nessun dorma is was immensely saddened and jealous of my past self having to know I'll never have such an experience ever again. As to God he is know only as Man but to man he is maestro o la voce. Rip maestro
The song's words are the following: Nessun dorma
Nessun dorma
Tu pure, o Principessa
Nella tua fredda stanza
Guardi le stelle
Che tremano d'amore
E di speranza
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
Il nome mio nessun saprà, no, no
Sulla tua bocca lo dirò
Quando la luce splenderà
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
Il silenzio che ti fa mia
(Il nome suo nessun saprà
E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir)
Dilegua, o notte
Tramontate, stelle
Tramontate, stelle
All'alba vincerò
Vincerò
Vincerò
No one sleeps
You too, oh Princess
In your cold room
You look at the stars
That tremble with love
And with hope
But my mystery is locked inside me
No one will know my name, no, no
On your lips I will say it
When the light shines
And my kiss will dissolve
The silence that makes you mine
(No one will know his name
And we must, alas, die, die)
Disappear, oh night
Set, stars
Set, stars
At dawn I will win
I will win
I will win
Oooof! Now we are getting into an entirely new level of vocals. Something that is very specific and cannot really be compared to contemporary vocal performance.
I love people seeing the perfection that is Pavarotti.
If you like guitars, Jeff Beck does an amazing rendition of this.
You pronounced his name perfectly.
Loved your reaction.
Very real and intuitive.
Exquisite voice and music... great rendition.. saw him in the 90s.. he did this... what a night !!!. Take care of yourself.
What a treat that would have been. WOW
I swear it’s nothing malicious or hateful, but I m so goddamned jealous of you rn… 😆
@@poundinthastreets all the best to you
@@littlegrandadoutdoors and to you, kind sir…
I was at his concert here in Texas in 1992...with my eldest son.
What a night..a dream come true.
"Jane- Jefferson Star Ship" has very Impressive vocals cx Love this artistry though. The vocals and soul 😵😍
It must have been a privilege to hear Pavarotti live during his prime. This version of Nessu. dorma never fails to drive tears into my eyes.
Ahhhhhh the beauty of music in its purest form ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The best of all time, unique and unrepeatable.
I was sure you gonna cry....power, emotional, every listening the same feelings of power of love...i love Pavarotti
Imagine the music being made by all the greats in heaven such as him..
it's impossible to not cry, even if you hear this aria one million time
His voice is heart and soul. Hear and feel .... this is the one voice for eternity
You should definitely check out Luciano's performance with James Brown "It's a Man's World"
Great choice Aileen! Brilliant! Love from an Irish-American in Virginia ☘️🇺🇲
Love how you went from happy to sad a few times
Luciano has one of the greatest voices ever PERIOD!!! The greatest Tenor of all time
The greatest tenor of all time? Enrico Caruso.
I was at this concert at DODGER stadium in LA. If you are Hispanic, listen to Linda Ronstadt LA CIGGARA...she sang about 6 kinds of music. but aside from C&W, Pop, rock, opera, big band, she had the largest selling album in the history of mexico....
Pavarotti sang a lot of duets with famous rock and pop singers. Jon Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams are some of my favorites.
I’ve been listening to Luciano sing this since the BBC chose it as their theme for all coverage of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. It topped the charts in the U.K. if I’m not mistaken…I know I bought the CD single. Yet 34 years later it has the same effect, and I watch any and all reactions to it because you are not alone in your appreciation for the intensity of such a short piece of music.
im a metal head, but man, this voice, gives me chills, awesome ! u can feel his emotions.
Once again, we all get to see the music touch your soul. The way everyone should enjoy music. He is a gift to us all.
One oh the greatest voices ever!!!! To me the most beautiful Aria in the reign of Operas. Turandot, this one.
Gracias por respetar y no cortar la canción para comentar y esperar a que termine, una maravilla así hay que disfrutarla,me ha gustado como te has emocionado
He was a phenomenon, the uncrowned king of opera.
His contribution to Passengers song Miss Sarajevo is also unforgetable.
Hehe.. the ultimate power trip. Love the reaction.
Recommend Pavarotti's 'E lucevan le stelle' 1978 live stage version(with caps if possible to give back story)
Another is Pavarotti's 'Bella figlia dell'amore' 1982 stage FILM(not live) but this one might be hard to post with CR.
Thank you so, so much for not interrupting this masterpiece
Check out The video of It's a man's world Luciano Pavarotti and James Brown
Era el mejor porque a su voz absolutamente COLOSAL unia su capacidad de vivir e interpretar todo lo que cantaba, eso hacia que aun emocionara mas....
Giuseppe Di Stefano was his inspiration and he studied all his life to be the best Opera Singer
Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingos, José Carreiras formed The Three Tenors World Success to this day.
2020 when COVID was killing people left right and center in Italy, particularly old people, and the Italian Air Force did a flyover with Nessum Dorma playing to send hope and strength. Powerful moment.
Your face throughout literally encapsulates the exact emotional journey I get watching this 🤣
You will never hear a singer like this again there one of his kind like him
I love seeing the moment when you got it. You understood the beauty and power of his voice. Thank you for this.
One of the few opera I've watched, at 1am on tv by curiosity, was a pleasant experience so I need to watch others. This song is so powerful, you can't forget it after hearing at the end of the play
This was number one in Uk the charts for many weeks. I never tire of hearing it.
As a Metalhead I salut to Maestro Luciano, fantastic performance I always have tears at the end. Greatings 🤘
After this one and to continue your Home Free journey, you should react to Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera.
One of the best voices ever. Hugs from Italy
I saw a video where even a baby cried listening to this. Most of the time I cry, at the least tear up, listening to him perform this.
Love watching your videos your energy makes me happy, It would be great if you could review the artist Seal - Kiss From A Rose.
One regret I have in life is not going to see him live in Denver years ago. He takes your breath away! Kudos on a very touching reaction Aileen ❤️
Gorgeous opera and breathtaking song.
its one of the best artist of every time... so wonderfull to i see him live after. Its like you see Mozart or Beethoven.
Second best tenor to ever perform this. But Jussi Björling is #1 and I know Pavarotti himself agreed 😊
Just like we feel the loss of the great Pavarotti, we also feel the end of his last note. The void left by the absence of his voice is as as powerful as his voice.
Such a boss.
