  • In this video, I'm sharing my thoughts after owning the Rec Teq RT-680 Pellet Smoker with over 7 years service. This smoker is one of the OG's in the game, and it's been a trusty companion in my backyard BBQ adventures. I'll be discussing what I love about it, the features I'm thankful for, and some suggestions for improvements.
    Pellet smokers have come a long way, and the Rec Teq RT-680 has seen me through some amazing cooks. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, this review will give you some valuable insights about Pellet Grills in general.

    I've had my 680 for almost 10 years and love it. The smoker hasn't failed me. I think its time to tear it down and repaint it to its original glory!!

    I had a RT-680 for three years, but then it started acting up. Wild temperature swings, plus it started to rust. I give Rec Tec kudos for working with me through parts replacement to sending me paint, but nothing worked. They finally worked out a deal where I got a RT-700 for a much reduced price. I have been very happy with it.
    As far as new pellet grills go, the Weber Searwood seems to be off to a good start, but if money were no object, the Lone Star Grillz pellet grill looks pretty awesome. Made in the USA, built like a tank, with lots of great features. Check it out.
    Keep up the great videos!

    Have the rec teq warehouse a mile away from me, I’ve seen all the new models in person. They are absolutely on point. The backyard beast is absolutely the upgrade that we needed.

      IMO Rec Teq puts out some mean looking products and I'd be lying if I said I didn't buy my 680 partly because of how much better it looked than the competition. Thanks for watching and commenting

      I've been looking at the Spitts & Pitts recently. They seem to have some great products but the price tag is a little more than the more common brands aren't they? Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I just bought my first pellet grill. I researched for a long time and just about a month ago I bought the recteq xl 1400. I wish I hadn't wanted so long. We were supposed to go to a family me members house for the 4th of July.. I got a phone call the morning of and found out they were sick. My wife asked if I could have everyone over. 😁... I smoked 8 racks of ribs on that xl 1400. Those are the best ribs I've ever made. I look forward to seeing what you choose. I enjoy your channel.

      You can buy replacement hinges for those smokers. It’s the stops on the hinges that have bent backward over time. The only reason i know this is because i was just on the website after I bought a used one today. The grill i got only had a couple cooks on it, it looks damn near brand new and i wanted to see what things and parts were available if i needed any………good video, thanks for the info

    I have a Z-grill. It does what I need it too, other than I wish it had WiFi temperature control. I think my next one will be a Yoder pellet grill, they are nice.

    • @DelmarvaBackyard
      @DelmarvaBackyard  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yoder YS640 is one of my main considerations. It's hard to argue against Yoder products. WiFi is mandatory for me. It's a convenience thing, but it's truly nice to be able to go do things when they come up and still keep the Q cooking. Thanks for commenting.

    I had some problems with the RT-590 a few years ago. It was super efficient and held temps really well, but had lots of issues, so it didn’t last long here. It got to where I couldnt trust it. I went to kamados after that, and more recently I have gotten back to the old trusted Weber kettles. Refound that love with them and they are just as amazing now as they were back when I was a kid growing up in MT. We do have a cheap pellet grill for my wife’s use and it’s fine for what it is, but its brains are really lacking and we get 100° temp swings. I have been doing some research into pellet grills and two brands that really interest me are the Camp Chef Woodwind Pro as well as the new Weber Searwood 600. These might be good thoughts for you to look at as well.

    • @DelmarvaBackyard
      @DelmarvaBackyard  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think all brands fall victim to this type of performance issue. I guess there's always a potential for problems the more parts these things are made of, and that's why the Weber Kettle is so timeless. Some amazing data would be what percentage of these products face issues like that. Thanks for the feedback, and I appreciate you watching.

      @@DelmarvaBackyard I use a steel plate over hopper. Cook on 350 8 mins. Spin Then cook another 4 mins until the crisp of your crust is finished.Helps to par cook dough 3-4 mins.. I like mine more crispy. Lower temps take longer but prevents from burn taste on bottom…. Sometimes I have to broil the top. The weather outside sometimes messes with stuff. Gotta practice a few times. But the steel plate fix’s a lot of problems I use post oak pellets by Pitboss ultimate flavor profile hope that helps
