Come on!!! You are now the proud owner of a 2019 Campchef with the bottle opener upgrade! This little honey was only used on Sundays by a little old lady for her church socials. When not used, it was (obviously) parked in her garage after a thorough cleaning. Sure, she needs a little Turtle Wax to bring back that showroom glow, but it has a BOTTLE OPENER!!!! Still waiting for your call regarding that 1985 YUGO I talked to you about.

I have given thought and consideration to buying used grills of Facebook Market Place but have decided to nix the idea! I deserve to buy new and obtain whatever grill I so choose! My wife fails to understand that I am going to level up my grilling arsenal by shunning away from cheap garbage newspaper thin grills sold at Big Box stores.

My go-to is lump in a Kamado Joe grill. I grill all year round, 4-6 days a week and had that grill for 7 years with no issues. I am at the point of needing to change the lid gasket which isn't critical since I don't use it to smoke meat any longer, use it for all other grill cooks. After tons of research and a lot of debating, I purchased a pellet grill because of volume. When I cook butts, I want to cook 4-6 at a time, not be limited to only 2 on a kamado grill. I purchased a Recteq RT-700 with 40 lb hopper on the back, short auger. I live at the coast where it gets windy and we have fairly cold weather during the Winter months. I have smoked butts and brisket several times, ribs and chicken countless times in all seasons over 3-4 years with that pellet grill. The auger has never hung up, always held temps in all seasons and wind conditions when I have cooked. Only difference I have noticed is using more pellets on a long cook on cold, windy day. Even then, with a 40 lb hopper, I didn't have to refill during the cook. I have tried burgers and steaks on it because people brag about how good they are, apparently those people don't know what a good burger and steak taste like. A good pellet grill is great for smoking, pretty much crap as a grill even though mine will go up to around 600 degrees! But with all of that, if I could only have one grill, it would be the Kamado Joe.

I found a Weber Smokefire ex4 first gen that had the second gen parts added. He only wanted $200 CA for it, so like $130USD. It looked really clean and saw it running, so I chanced it. Took it home and gave it a good cleaning. I noticed the temp probe was absolutely caked with a thick layer of carbon, so what I assume is he was having a lot of troubles with temp issues and wanted it gone. Cleaned it out completely and it works perfectly. Many cooks later, still perfect. Even did a Brisket for 17 hours in it, no issues. I got lucky.

Here is something try. My daughter had the exact same issue with her Traeger. Would not get to temp, and then it would bounce all over the place temp wise. She replaced a bunch of parts. Traeger is GREAT, but none of them solved the problem. Here is what did. She replaced her wicked cheap extension cord with better quality one, and its been bullet proof ever since. Sounds like you solved your problem, but for anyone watching this video to trouble shoot their pellet grill, don't over look the extension cord.

I have a newer camp chef. I believe the smoke coming out to the bottom of the smoker on start up is caused by a thermal inversion in the smoker which doesn't allow the smoke to escape out the stack. Once it warms up it will act as it should. That is what my camp chef does also. Normal operation.

I bought a GMG Davy Crockett off marketplace a couple years ago. Cleaned it up. Used it like 5 times. It never was consistent in temps. Seems like it's usually about 40+ degrees higher than what you set it at. And it has a grease leak. I got a new thermometer/sensor but I haven't put it in and just been using my Kettle and WSM. Maybe I'll dig into it again when I'm not super busy.

Now, I'd suggest a cover for the pellet grill. Last fall I didn't clear out my auger, and moisture got to the pellets running through the auger and they swell up with moisture. A small pellet will expand to over a half inch in diameter and virtually lock the auger and tube together so it can't turn. In my Pit Boss, I had to remove the hopper, fan, and rotate the auger counter-clockwise to extract it and use my drill, with a special bit, I have to remove the jammed wood from the tube. Now I have a cover to keep the moisture from contacting the pellets and this fall I will empty it for the end of season smoke!

I don't think you got scammed. The guy may have been a douche for not disclosing things but maybe he didn't know about the problems because he's not used it for so long. I see buying a used pellet smoker like buying a used car, "you're buying somebody else's problems." Sales are "as is unless stated otherwise." This is why I prefer charcoal. No moving parts or electronics to break. 😉

Yeah, I agree. The reason I think he knew is because he was an IT guy and a car guy with a garage full of tools and toys he was working on...and he used the CRAP out of that grill. I can never prove it but I think he just dumped his problems onto me (like you said.) If he would have told me, I probably would have bought it anyways...though I may have asked him for 20 bucks off to replace the probe.
It would have saved me a ton of time. That's why I feel ok calling it out. Thanks for watching.

@@BabyBackManiac As an "IT guy" I can tell you his stance on this is typical. Even if the hardware is flawed or another IT guy "screwed up" you always blame it on the user. That way they don't need to pay for it. At least it didn't catch your house on fire like on your list. 🤣

I got a used Traeger on Facebook a few months ago, it’s super convenient depending on what your cooking,
But it ended up missing a few parts. I messaged treager on Facebook, and even though I got it second hand; and they knew that. They still sent me what I needed for free. I would 1000% buy a new one after that experience

You have had the most miserable luck with pellet smokers. If I can remember correctly, there was a MAK general that let you down. I know for certain there was a Webber first generation that messed its pants , I just can’t imagine Camp Chef wouldn’t be knocking your door down to give you one for free and just use it as you see fit 😢 I know I would enjoy watching you. Cook on a pellet smoker and having things work out.
